For all of you, "jUsT rEpLaCe tHe fItTiNg!" guys... Stay out of the shop. 😂😂😂 Leave it to the guys that know what they're doing. The fitting is rarely the root cause. Normally the joint is blocked, not the fitting. This tool uses hydraulic pressure to flushes both the fitting and joint with penetrating oil. Once flushed and freed up, new grease is injected and flushes out the penetrating oil.
You are the most obnoxious mechanic on youtube.
hah tell ‘em !
Funny how all the internet experts say it's dumb, useless, doesn't work... But the guys that actually own this tool say it's great, a life saver, and indispensable... 🤔 🤔 🤔
Use this tool often in my shop. Just need the operator's to stop damaging the other grease zerks.
I don't use grease fittings often enough to find clogged ones because I work on cars, but that is good to know as that is exactly what I was thinking
Now that’s handier than a shirt with pockets!! Imma get one for my tractor.
Don't do this shit it just forces the rust and metal that's blocking the passage into the part pin slide etc. That you are trying to lubricate then it mixes with the new grease and basically creates liquid sand paper this is for hacks who don't want to take the time to clear the passage Correctly
Definitely makes more sense than socks on a rooster.
Put hydraulic oil in a hand pump grease gun. You’ll get unreal amounts of pressure.
That SnapOn dead blow hammer is like "omg we gotta tap tap taparoo again?" 🤣
In the words of uncle bumblefvck. ‘Tappy Tap tap, mind the fingies!’
I was like hit that fucker like a man. Being from the salt belt I have used them many time. But we fill them with grease not penetrating oil.
Will work for some.. but as we all know some manufacturers like to put the grease zerk in a very inconvenient place..
Look in the tools case again, i think that black bendable hose is for hard to reach places...
It is!
@@MrSubaru1387 nice set to have on hand...
I have a different set from same manufacture. They also sell one with a pen sized one that is also handy. And also doubles to keep little kids entertained. That little “pop” from the oring seal popping out of the tube will keep them busy for quite a while.
Like a John Deere Tractor. There is ghries Zirks where there and not even proper space to get the ghries fitting in
Doesn't always work, but those, with a combination of heat, usually breaks the old grease free.
After 10 or 20 attempts at using the bosses, i gave up and now just go right to trying to remove and drill out the old one.
Just make sure to pump enough grease in to push out all that penetrating oil.
I've had a grease fitting clogged ( hand pump grease gun couldn't grease the fitting) in the field away from my tool box and a similar tool. I just used my milwaukee m18 grease gun with a lok-n-lube grease coupler. Put the milwaukee in 1st gear to produce 10,000 psi of pressure and boom free grease fitting. The machine was a CAT 12g motor grader. The clogged fitting, one of steering/ crab walking cylinders under the cab.
I worked as an oiler for road building equipment in the late 60s. We had a devise which held a shot of grease with a similar plunger. One or two whacks with a 2# mechanic's hammer and 90% of the time, whatever was obstructing was pushed into the joint. That's both the good and bad news in terms of contamination. Better to remove the zirk first to avoid contamination going into the equipment.
Best practice is regular greasing, IMHO.
For those really stubborn ones where this won't work it's time to bust out the portapower with a grease fitting adapter.
Often the tip is smashed on the grease zerk if it doesn’t take like that. The main problem is the gun can’t lock on to the fitting properly.
Best thing I use is an adapter to hook my port a power into the 1/8 npt holes of a machine.
The problem comes down to a few things. One being a messed up and rusted fitting. Second is the lack of maintenance. The kind of people who never grease anything. The third one is a joint that is worn out and the pressure is far more than the grease can get in to.
Tools like this work if you have a lot of old stuff you never take care of or you do a lot of fixing old stuff.
I was just thinking the same thing. If you keep up with general maintenance and grease what ever needs greased when it calls for it you generally never have issues unless the fitting is just broken.
I've had mine since they came in a WOOD BOX👋🤗👍
Is it still nice and shiny?😉😉😁
Oh shit, you got one of the 2 piece ones.
"Gotta get me one of those"
They don't work that good
Had one for several years works great. I use marvel mystery oil or atf also penetrating oils work well. I've also used kerosene or diesel fuel, any low viscosity oil works.
Guess that was my problem when I used it, I was using 30 weight lol
I just dont find it kosher to mix fluids that woukd break down the grease. Its just handy for those fittings you cant replace/get out easily. Shouldnt be the go to solution imo. Fittings are cheap. That being said, i use a spray grease in mine, particularly kent penegrease. For alot of stuff i coukd care less but say its a trailer hub, u joint, something that spins very fast.
@@danielanderson2030 I’ve been using mine for many years now on countless fittings and never had an issue with grease contamination. I’ve always used it to flush out the bad grease and immediately pump in fresh grease to replenish the old grease and flush out whatever I used as a cleaner. Sometimes I don’t have time to mess with cleaning out a fitting or mechanism, it’s quicker to use this tool and clear it in one or two shots, grease it, and move on. I have had instances where I couldn’t clear a fitting or mechanism then and only then do I disassemble and clear, no need in creating extra work if there’s a better way of doing something. Just my take have a great day.
@rogerjustice8835 it just depends is all. The hinge on my gate, wont think twice. The rollers on my dyno, ehhh it would probably keep me up at night. Heavy equipmwnt thats getting greased daily or atleast frequently, wont really think twice about it. At the end of the day i usually just ask myself whats quicker and easier and usually cheaper. Repair or replace.
Sometimes it's not the grease fitting. I have removed the grease fitting and used carburetor cleaner to clean certain hard grease areas from lack of maintenance...like on a pivot point on a dump bed. Grease went right in.
I needed this!!! Lol. There’s a correct tool for every job/circumstance.
I have another comment when you grease a fitting always wipe the dirt off first before you grease the fitting
Next time you grease a fitting go ahead and leave the dirt on it Grease the fitting take note of the dirt first incidentally and then when you remove the grease gun from the fitting the dirt will be gone where did it go inside the fitting you're greasing plugging it up in time.
If you clean the grease off the fitting the zerk before you grease it you will never have a problem with your equipment getting plugged up there won't be any dirt in it to plug it up
Wrong, grease can cake up on a bushing, no matter how clean the grease.
Wow. I operate and service a monstrous 4-shaft industrial shredder. The zerks are constantly gunked up from all the electronics and metal material we shred. There's a TON of grease fittings that could use this tool. Owners just have is replace them but this could save them money and maybe get me a raise for the idea of using this!!
Did 90k job to replace some 12 bearings on a grain elevators pully system.
Brother: did y'all grease it?
Long shore: obviously.
Bearings changed, still squealing like a mashed up cat.
Me 80ft in the air: boom it out over the water I'm gonna keep pumping till it
breaks free.
At work a loader has had this problem with a single fitting. I think I'll take notes and try to shove penetrating oil in there by filling the tube with it before putting a new tube in
I’ve been seeing on ball joints that are brand new where there is not enough clearance behind the grease fitting to allow the grease to come out you have to back to grease fitting out of Turn or two
Thanks for this! I had this saved in my amazon lists after seeing this (a while back) and I have a stuck fitting on my kubota. Just ordered to clear it.
Also works great is a dental pick or a weld inspection tool
Well this is cool. And thanks for the thunk sound.
I bought one of these because of this video. Works great.
I was getting nervous thinking about fire pistons until he gently tapped the end of that plunger. Haha
Or you could do what we do in the real world. Hit it for 10 seconds with your mapp/propane torch. Add grease, done.
Works amazing and it takes a second to do
Me wishing I had one for 15,000psi high pressure fittings for plug valves lol
I own one, works great.... and does exactly what it's designed to do.
Watch putting a bare hand over those fittings, a mate of mine got fluid injection doing the same thing with a Milwaukee battery grease gun, lost his hand
Came here to say that too. My dad had a grease hose blow on him and inject his finger, thats been almost 2 years and he still can't quite move it
Fuhhhhhhhk
That fkn sucks
Dealerships: "why do this when we can charge you $10 for a new one?
It's almost always, caked up grease beyond the fitting, around the bushing. Bearings rarely have this problem.
And there 13 cents a peace. A can of penetrating oil is like $10.00
@@daisykaren6584 They're *
They're amazing!!
Yes loved these when maintaining a scrapper harder to extract a fitting then freeing it up
I do get how this tool could also help clear a line as well and looks fairly simple.
Awesome
Man that is so much more convenient than a 5/16 socket and removing the fitting goalie Gorsh it’s probably cheaper too
They work too. Even on heavy equipment
Need one for my backhoe
I've used one of these on 3 vehicles it works on most but not all, sometimes you have to replace the zerk but they do work
Bought my wife one…oddly enough we’re divorced now😔
Some women are so inconsiderate. You buy them a nice gift and they don't appreciate it. Definitely means for divorce.
That’s a sweet tool. I usually heat it with a butane torch but I’ll have to get one of these
All you have to do is take a small piece of small pointed metal press the ball center of the fitting. Press it a couple times and itll take grease after that.
Works great bought one a while ago
THANX, I can make one.
Dang! Ain't that a doozy eh BillyBob.
Now that’s pretty dang useful! I could definitely use one to keep with our tractor at all times!
Sometimes these work sometimes they don’t. But when they work you get this sweet satisfaction that you didn’t have to replace it. Even though it probably takes the same amount of effort 😂.
I need one of these
Tried greasing the bucket end on a single ram on a bobcat 743 low hours but obviously not well taken care of because after changing the zirk still no go had to knock the pin out and dig a hole through the bushing with a die grinder bit.was either a bad install from the factory or it galled and turned the bushing then freed up later somehow.
Cool thanks man love your channel
This is why I love tools
Very nice tool!
Awesome, gonna pick one up. Being a forklift field technician, and owning an old Kubota tractor, this will definitely come in handy.
Thank you for showing the details. I saw the advertising, but not knowing how it works to make sense. Thank you sir.
Thanks, I just ordered it.
On the drill at work there's a grease fitting on every swappable drilling block and around 100 greasing points for all the articulating parts. I could definitely do with something like this.
Well.. not any, but I've used them on some pretty gnarly zerts
You need to get a lock n lube coupler for that grease gun. They work a million times better than the traditional ones.
How is it different from a regular one
I got one this year. Works great. Combine it with a pistol grip grease gun.
We use to hand a guy a empty grease gun for an aptitude test as entry level maintenance. Every once in a while you find someone who understands how that coupler works. When you snap it onto the fitting, you relax any pressure in any direction on it and pump. It works like a Chinese handcuff. The more pressure you pump, the harder the socket grips the fitting. This is after they demonstrate loading, and bleeding the gun. About 10% of applicants make it past that.
They're nice as long as they function properly. I tried some and in my opinion they got faulty to fast, not to mention the price. With a one-hand-pump or grease gun I don't need one, since I have a free hand, but it was nice with a Standard "lever Pump" where you need 3 hands if the coupler doesn't want to hold by itself.
I disagree
Oh man, that is frigging awesome!
I need one!!💯
Greasing up grease gotta love it
These tools work great I like to just use ATF in mine
Better than penetrating oil
@@BobSmith-kd6lq never thought about using penetrating oil until I seen this just had always heard ATF was best because of it's viscosity and it has detergents in it to help clean out the clogged grease. Did try penetrating oil the other day and it was a pain to fill up because it foams up
@@BigTyler I've always been told that penetrating oil will eat rubber seals, but ATF won't
Love how you had the grease adapter off and to the side before the plunger then you had it completely on the correct way after the plunger.😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
I have my days from like 10-15 years ago works great
We had one on the farm. (It’s broken nowadays it was used a lot). They work decently. It doesn’t fix every one but quite a few.
Great idea
THANK YOU BRO
Pb buster is my go to as well mr subaru
I got a grease fitting repair tool that works in even more situations, its called an 8mm wrench
Because replacing fittings is omg so hard. 😂😂😂
Zerk. My favorite obscure word. Reminds me of my dad talking to my grandfather about guy stuff. Love it! :)
I actually use a port o power for that.Never failed me. But I never seen this before.
Oh hell yeah I got to get me one
Do they have an attachment for recessed fittings?
I just ordered one thx
They work great most of the time.
Although the directions said to use ATF in the one I purchased.
Any oil that makes it, is a penetrating oil.
Thats one of those tools that you might not use very often but when you do need it youre damn glad you have it!.
Diesling affect. Cool!
You can also just put a torch to the grease fitting. Worked for me few occasions
I've always just used a thin peice of wire
This honestly may be something I’d spend cash on. It seems legit and I wanna try it
Ooh I need one of these bad boys
I have something similar that uses air pressure I used on heavy equipment.
I just made a hydraulic hose with the same threads as the grease fitting for my Porta Power. Take the zerk off, thread the hose on, and fill up the Porta Power with Marvel Mystery Oil and pump the crap out of it until the passages are clear. Put a new zerk on, and refill with fresh grease.
I've had one of these for about fifteen years now and have used it many times. I just poor in thin oil of any kind and whack the end with a rubber mallet. If it happens to the same fitting more than twice in a short time period just replace fitting. They're cheap.
My buddy just gave me one. I tighten the collar onto the zerk so it doesn't blow off. Also very easy to diesel it in theory.
Right in my hometown of woodstock NY is where they are located. Worked there for a while, then decided to become a technician
old farm machinery will be the ultimate test.
if brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough! good tool!
never had this problem because i have a rolll of whats called BRASS WIRE 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is cool man. Thank you whoever invented it.
Those tools have been around for decades, ask me how I know.
Peter vinci it the guy to thank. Check out the website there are a bunch of other useful tools.
Yo I just bought one of these a few months back, it works absolute wonders on aircraft landing gear grease zerks that constantly get clogged.
Hey, I've got a grease fitting unsticker tool, its called a 16 penny nail. It works fine, was free (I picked it up in a parking lot) and they have worked well for me for close to 60 years...
Definitely a must have tool for any excavation company!
Learn something new everyday
Cool tool. Its like the break line luber for bikes
I may need one of them.
