Mine just arrived, and i have good news, not only i also find it really good, but radiomaster started to put foam in the battery thing, 2 blocks of soft foam. They work pretty well too. Thank you for the review, happy flying
still running my Jumper tx12 and it's going strong. No problems with Crossfire or Ghost modules, the only annoying thing is I had to remove the speaker as it made an annoying hum. This form factor is still my favourite, not to large and with the MPM I can run all my models no matter the protocol. Excellent and in-depth as always Wayne thanks👍👍
Sadly, my Jumper TX12 has given up the Ghost - a fully charged set of 18650's = the radio thinking it's on low power and glitching away. Annoying, because that was a radio with a usable MPM in it :(
Nice review, just stumbled across your channel. Going to check out the SIM for sure, I need all the help I can get!!! I'm going with the TX12, for the price difference the 16 doesn't seem to bring that much more to the table. Thanks and I'll be watching!
Yes, the 16 (which I don't actually have) feels more like a big traditional radio with lots of switches, pots and sliders. the colour touch screen is quite nice - if that's your kind of thing. The TX12 is great as it feels a little smaller in your hands, and certainly no where near the weight. I've been using the RadioMaster Boxer as my main radio of late.
Couldn't agree more, you have to get your hands on a TX to really know. I spent $100's before I went to an event and found what really worked for me. I also made some friends as a bonus! Also, still appreciating you're getting out there and actually using the things you are reviewing ;)
Ah, events are really handy for this. A lot of people have mentioned retail shops and, if you can find one, them only ever having Specktrum gear. An actual proper FPV meet up is what you need
Fantastic flying and review, Wayne! Thanks! 😃 I plan about replacing my X9D... But I didn't decided what to get yet. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
When we bought X9D's, those stood out as being the best and cheapest. These days there are a lot more options. If you can find somewhere where you can hold the other radios in your hand and try things out, then it'll help you decide.
I have a x9d not plus and i just bought this one, what i can say is that the x9d plus r9m is 860 gr and the tx12 mk2 is 420, i also found that the grip is a bit different, but personally i find it confortable. The gimballs are SO SMOOTH and the battery consumption is less
RadioMaster are pretty good at taking note. The review radios are often ready before the roll out of the production models, so there's a little time for fixes.
Nice review. I have a Zorro and TX16S. I always bring another set of batteries, so the Zorro's battery life isn't an issue. I've never needed to swap anyway when out flying. I do think the TX12 is a great value.
The Zorro's batteries hasn't affected me either. 2 hours at the field is maybe 40-50 minutes of actual flying, so it's fine for that. Might be a different story if I was meeting up for a day and had 10's of lipos ready
Great review again m8. You're right about those uncoloured buttons. I do the same peering at them to read them. Of course, we should be able to remember which is which, but we're older....not old....older...lol..🤔😳🙄🇬🇧
That sticker was asking to update the firmware before using it, correct? Did you update the firmware? Which firmware, the EdgeTx or the ELRS firmware? What was the version that was there in the unit originally? I know, I am asking a lot of questions. I am thoroughly confused about this firmware update. I have my unit which came with EdgeTX 2.8.0 and ELRS v 3.3.0. Should I upgrade before using the unit, as the sticker said?
Hey Thanks for your channel you helped me a lot. But now I have a question, after I update the firmware it reset the radio so I just had to create a new model again for may drone but now I don’t have slider’s working…I already search for it on the radio manu but can’t find anywhere the slider input to activate them. Thanks
Nice review. Mine arrives today. I decided on this form factor because to me, it seems like it will be a direct transfer from the DJI v1 radio. I have goggles 2, and hoping to get one or two O3 AU when they come out. But I'm not really expecting that DJI will make my current radio compatible with the new air units, or that they will make DJI RC2 compatible with Vistas. So moving back to a more conventional transmitter. I liked the feel of the X9 Lite when I had it, so thinking I generally like smaller radios.
@@CurryKitten Size wise, it seems fine so far. My only "complaints" are stiff gimbals and anemic stick ends. I've already adjusted the springs down a little. Now I just have to decide on some stick ends. Assuming these are M3,....
I’ve never heard of 21700 cells. (I did look them up!) would they fit in the same battery case? If not, do you solder them together? Thanks for your experience!
I was into aeromodelling, but quit long ago and sold all of my equipment. Now I am thinking of returning. Since I'm into a budget and I must buy everything again I am considering the multi version of this TX. If I decide to give quads a try will I be able to plug an elrs module into this TX?
Yes - but if you are buying again, I'd go ELRS and think about if I'd need the multi protocol module as well. I'm generally flying everything on ELRS now unless it's something older that I've still got FrSky on
Wait a few days and then check the RadioMaster website, they are just about to announce some modules and will also be selling some antennas as an option. As most of the other antennas in the world tend to be SMA, I'd recommend getting these RP-SMA ones (not SMA female on the TX12 BTW)
I haven't been doing a good job at keeping up with transmitter tech lately. I have a Flysky FS-i6 that does everything I need, but the range is lacking, and I've lost a model, and still sometimes start to loose it when I FPV my racing quad. So I've been looking at ELRS, but I'm not all too familiar with it. If I got this radio, either elrs version or 4in1, could you add the module (either 4in1 or elrs) to the existing tx, and use both, if I have one model on elrs, and others that the 4in1 work with, or do you need to remove the module from the transmitter to switch back and forth? I don't know if the model presets can save which protocol it uses, either the elrs or the 4in1, in the model profile, so that it is a painless switch from model to model. And if that does work, I'm wondering if it's better to get the 4in1 version, so I could get more powerful elrs module, of if the integrated elrs version is really good. I'm mostly interested in the elrs, but it would be nice to also be able to use the transmitter with other models, too.
I've got a playlist called "how to do stuff with OpenTX" ua-cam.com/play/PL7WaECFssECJZnBO3hlAwp4tCAz56QT8E.html if you are moving from FlySky and haven't seen OpenTX/EdgeTX before it might be handy. But yes, every model can have it's own particular settings - including whether you are on a certain protocol on an external, or internal module. As to which way around you should go... I have to say that both are equally valid. For me, Ive tried to convert the models I fly a lot over to ELRS... because it's just better on all counts. If I'm going to fly something with FrSky onboard, I'll just take a different radio.... but that's because I have a drawer full of radios :) If I was on a single radio, I'd think I'd go the way of an internal ELRS module (like the TX12 mk2) and then have a 4-in-1 as an external if I needed it (You can have the external module connected all the time - you don't need to take anything out to put the external module in) The reasoning behind this is I'd be flying the stuff I used the most without needing anything external, and although you can go higher power on an external module (1W+) I've never run out of range on 100mw... I've run out of lipo and had to turn around in a hurry, but range no. If you have a look at the range records on ELRS you'll see they are all set using relatively low power.
@@CurryKitten Thanks, exactly what I was wanting to know, and I'll have to check out your playlist, as I feel like I'm gettin old, not being able to keep up with all this newer stuff.
This is the ELRS version, so no. Get the multi-protocol version and it'll pretty much bind to everything. Certainly Spectrum - I'm not sure of the protocol used on the specific eachine stuff you are talking about, but most likely yes
Should i get this or the jumper t pro. The jumper t pro has 1w output power but i dont know of i need it, i only fly at my house but reception is bad, with 100mw frsky i failsafed before reaching the other side of the house
Firstly, its pretty odd to get such a small distance on FrSky. Are you using a multiprotocol module and a FrSky rx? If so on the MM module, did you tune the frequency so it's as good as it can be. As to the Jumper - I don't have any experience with the T-Pro. My Jumper TX12 has malfunctioned, so I've become slightly jaded with their build quality vs RadioMaster who have been excellent so far.
@@CurryKitten im not sure of the power of the radio but it was a chinese one that came in a rtf kit, no screen or settings, idk which radio to choose, is 250mw enough?
Somewhere in the middle :D It's more of a traditional shape, but smaller. Nice if you find the full sized TX16 a bit on the large side. But you really need to hold one to find out - that seems tricky, unless you know other FPVers with different radios
@@CurryKitten sounds great. That's an interesting point on the Bluetooth range. I sit only a few feet from my computer, so I've never really tested how far it will go. I know the wifi range in RX's (for when you are flashing them) can be very low. It's awkward to stick a wing on your desk if you need to flash the rx.

What does my head in is when you buy a new radio and connect it to your new computer the computer doesn’t recognize the radio in the com port. Then as a Noob your really stuck. Why is the world this way?
@@CurryKitten I think the problem I was having was that there wasn’t a Com port allocated at all. And the STM site only had downloads for Windows 7 and 8. I ended up downloading the W8 version. And that worked. I can use the ExpressLRS configuration. But I can’t use the EdgeTX companion. I can’t read or write any content to the radio. Not sure why.
That's a very subjective question. It depends what feels nicer to you. I like the fact that you can fit larger batteries and change the antenna, but that's meaningless unless you like the form factor of the TX12 over the Zorro

I don't have a tango2 to compare. It is pretty narrow - it's like a traditional radio, but scaled down in all dimensions
How km distance ronge ?
depends hugely on lots of other factors
What does my head in is when you buy a new radio and connect it to your new computer the computer doesn’t recognize the radio in the com port. Then as a Noob your really stuck. Why is the world this way?
Are you talking about the weird and random com port number windows creates? It's even less clear on a Mac :)
Why no one buy cc2500 ?
Is this better than the Zorro?
That's a very subjective question. It depends what feels nicer to you. I like the fact that you can fit larger batteries and change the antenna, but that's meaningless unless you like the form factor of the TX12 over the Zorro
Which sim is that?
My one :) Do a search for "CurryKitten FPV Sim" works on Windows/Mac/Linux/Android/iOS
Not much help for beginners on how to use the damn thing.
I can't go through every radio I look at in the mindset that everyone watching is a beginner (the videos would just be too long).... but that's why I created a bunch of videos that do go through all the basics. These are based around OpenTX, but EdgeTX is essentially identical for all the stuff I'm talking about, check out the playlist here ua-cam.com/play/PL7WaECFssECJZnBO3hlAwp4tCAz56QT8E.html
