He wants to be an active champion at his respective weight class before moving up to try and be a double champ- it’s a murderers row at 85 right now with Costa, Till, Romero, and Cannonier. Too many fighters get obsessed with the idea of being champ champ and hold up the divisions in the process like Conor or Cejudo.

When Israel fought Gastelum.... it could have went totally different if Gastelum was paying attention when he kicked him and damn near KOed him. Idk. Yoel Romero is very unpredictable. He can take a hit. He is fast and explosive. He ground game is definitely better and more experienced. Israel may be better standing but we don’t know until the fight happens. When he fought Gastelum it was different and Isreal almost lost to an opponent that should have been nothing. Yoel may ground and pound him or chin check him and then it’s all over.

@@Ceez542 I disagree. Most of his fights were over in 2 minutes or less. He beat Dan Severn who outweighed him by at least 80 lbs and was much taller. He fought multiple times a night. JJ could never do tourney style with no weigh class and he would never beat Royce. JJ and the rest of the fighters need 3 month camps and endless footage of their opponent followed by 3-6 month suspension if they get a booboo. JJ will surpass Royce as the GOAT but I dont think he would ever beat Royce in any weight class let alone a tourney setting.

And Jones said he didn't want to fight Stipe (or even DC) at heavyweight...at least Adesanya says he will fight Jones, just not right now because he wants to defend his middleweight belt first. Which is better than jumping straight up to light heavyweight to fight Jones and clogging up the middleweight division with another interim title.

@HenryDavidT Ngannou is taller and has almost the same reach as Jones, so it would be much more difficult for Jones to control distance like he normally does. We seen what Santos done to Jones legs with the kicks, Ngannou has more powerful leg kicks, he lands a couple and Jones legs are done and he can't be evasive anymore, at that point it becomes easy for Ngannou to land punches and Jones gets knocked out.
I don't see how Jones wins against Ngannou, if he tries to stand he gets knocked out. Stipe had much better head movement and boxing than Jones who is mediocre in those areas. Jones wrestling style is different from Stipe who used boxing to distract Ngannou then used double leg takedowns, Jones wrestles from the clinch and if he tries to clinch with Ngannou he could get knocked out. Ngannou has better takedown defence than people give him credit for and I think he will also has a significant strength advantage to Jones, so even if Jones could get him down (which I don't think is likely) he might not be able to keep him down. So I don't know what Jones does, he can't just run away for three rounds, hope Ngannou gets tired and then beat him in the last two rounds.
