It’s sad 😔 that too many young people today take our freedom for granted… we place our hand over our heart to show respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Nobody is taking it for granted. Freedom should be the right to choose. Also, it's not done in a disrespectful way. Most college teams aren't around for the anthem. Try attending college games and you will see this is actually the norm and it's not some disrespectful thing y'all think it is. The very next game between UConn and USC neither teams were present for the anthem.
Am old school, I am an immigrant, but I live in the United States of America. I believe everyone should show their RESPECT to USA, to the people that serve arm forces, the person who sings the national anthem and just show a common decent respect to everyone! Have pride in the country that you live in!

Most college teams do not attend the anthem. If you actually have an issue with it then you should keep that same energy for the several other teams who also use that time to game prep. Such as the following game between USC and UConn.

The irony is that Coach Kim Mulkey has always been beloved by her players, is *VERY* patriotic, was outspoken against ANTIFA and the BLM-violence, was one of the few coaches in ANY sport that openly questioned the COVID restrictions, and would not publicly support Britney Griner as a victim. Finally, though not vocally political, she’s conservative and a fan of Trumps’ policies. All of these reasons are why the mainstream media now hates her, but never questions when black coaches or black players do the same. Ex: A few years ago in the Final Four Coach Dawn Staley of South Carolina kept her team in the locker room during the Pledge, the same thing as Mulkey, gave the same reason, but not a peep from media. 🤔

She should not have been there, but it should not have been a death sentence. LSU had three players representing our country on team USA last year in the summer of 2023. Angel Reese, Hailey Van Lith, Mikayla Williams and Aneesah Morrow tried out for team USA and didn’t make the team. This wasn’t nothing about disrespecting the anthem. The Louisiana Governor is a lair.

As a Northeast transplant who grew up in La and graduated from LSU, I’m grateful for this governor, because my entire family still lives there (hardcore democrats unlike myself) and they were horrified. LSU was horrified, as was Baton Rouge. As was Louisiana. This was the fault of the coach.
What is horrific is anyone realizing that it was nothing more than a timing issue. Any chance they had ZERO idea what time the anthem played? You and anyone else that was horrified need a life, because worrying about a basketball team not being present for an anthem is pathetic.

The tax payers do NOT pay for the scholarships. That is paid by the athletic department that makes millions on tickets sales, tv broadcasts rights, etc.
The men’s football team pays for all the other sports and without a taxpayer funded university the football team wouldn’t be any different from arena football. So yes the taxpayers do have a say in this.
the state can actually end the program, so ...they are not without influence.

I'm not an LSU fan, but she is doing her job as a coach. She's protecting her players with that answer. You don't have to agree with what took place, and I don't, but as an ex athlete through school sports, I appreciate what she did as a coach. It's a special relationship we share with coaches, many of which I still communicate with.
Why wasn't the karma applicable last year and all of this year until they lost they weren't standing for the anthem those other times either

I never heard Mulkey say she chose not to participate, nor that she had the team remain in the locker room. That sounds like speculation. The question is why focus-on LSU, and not LSU, USC and Yukon? All three missed the anthem.

As some have said she’s a patriotic conservative which means she distruts government but respects the flag and the country it represents. So that alone should tell you two things:
1. This is part of their pregame routine and not intended to be disrespectful.
2. Because she is a straight white conservative she is held to a different standard than the hypocritical woke left who are the ones making a big deal about her but not the other coaches who did the same thing. Also she is held to a higher standard by other conservatives.

I’m not an American however, I do understand that USA takes freedom of choice to its extreme. Sometimes I think it’s great and at other times I think it’s terrible. If there is the current freedom of speech and choice then every American could exercise it with legal consequences. Voltaire or Rousseau had an observation on the essence of democracy that’s also allude to in the movie The American President.
I'm an LSU Alumnus, '92 Chemical Engineering...every football and basketball game I attended i am quite sure the teams were always in the floor or the field. I suspect the reason she doesn't have her team on the court is she doesn't want the scrutiny if her players kneel.

As a result of that Tom on the show said the tax payers fund the women's tuition. then you mentioned majority of female college sports are in the red then i responded not LSU ( the women's program we are referencing).
There are A LOT of small relatively unknown colleges with games that are never televised who draw small crowds and probably don't make enough to pay for all the players tuitions.
Full disclosure. I'm a fan of playing the Anthem at sports only at the beginning of the season and for games (of all sports) that are between countries. But students should be required to say the pledge of allegiance. But I support the Louisiana governor here.

Mulkey just signed a contract with LSU. She’s from Louisiana and she’ll probably retire there. I doubt that she leaves LSU.

I think both teams should be present to honor the national anthem. But I also miss the point of playing the anthem at every game of every team. The anthem should be played only with the national team at international games, that way teams like LSU wouldn’t get to disrespect it.

I know a lot of people won't like this but I know one way to stop all this back and forth on this subject...don't play the national anthem before EVERY event...we over do it...before a championship game or a tragic event I can see that...for the record I would stand...if someone wants to pray or sing the national anthem or whatever means something to you then you can do that any time any place privately before/after the game...why do I need to constantly stand and salute before every game to prove my love or respect of country in a sporting event?...a basketball game isn't the military...warm up...toss the ball on the court and just play

Mulkey doesnt want to run the risk of dissension within the ranks. Shes the coach but make no mistake there is a core group that threatened team cohesion and she caved.

I’ve been to hundreds of high school and college sports games that start with the National Anthem. There should be a short version of the National Anthem. It’s too long and it’s torturous when some star-struck singer tries to show off her vocal range.
