  • In this video I am talking with Kai Faust from Heilung. We talk about the inspiration that Heilung get from the Germanic past, the Viking Age, and all the way back to the Northern European Stone Age. Both Kai and I were suffering a little from a fire that was sending its smoke straight into the Viking tent we were sitting in -that's the reason for the sniffling and funny expressions on our faces :D

Kai Uwe Faust is so honest. No pretense. No shame in asking if he doesn’t understand something. So much in the present. Intelligent. Thoughtful. Great interview! Thank you!

Kai is refering to Proto-Norse when he talks about Krigsgaldr and he is right it is a Old Norwegian dialect. Heilung got me interested in Germanic history and all kinds of Germanic, Celtic and Romans history.

12:08 Right here... This changed my entire opinion on Heilung. I went from liking their music and thinking "Yea, Kai seems like a decent guy" to now, "Yes... Yes, he is an honest person." Admitting you don't know something in front of an audience is something I don't think 90% of musicians, big or otherwise, would do. They'd just smile and nod and say "Yes." But Kai openly admits to that word not being in his english vocabulary. That's a man without pretense, who's doing this because he loves it, not to stroke his own ego.

Probably it's cause he had a successful carrier before switching to the music, thus he know, that it's normal not to know things. One can't know everything, even about his/her favorite subject.

I like how at the end Kai gives a look at the camera and it's like it didn't matter whether he was filmed or not. He was having a conversation without caring about whether it would end on the internet or not. He would have come and talked to the interviewer even if it wouldn't.

the first time i saw him on stage, i was very intimidated at the first moment. then I was completely carried away, almost inundated by his animalistic, archaic radiation and presence

I am so impressed!! On stage, Kai has such a ferocious, deep-spirited energy that is very powerful. I wanted to find out in "normal life", what kind of person is he, just by what we can see that is. And from what I find, I am even more mesmerized by his personality. As a person, he's very a wise, gentle, humble, and calm individual. Truly magical guy

Absolutely agreed! The ONLY other artist (for ME) who can even come close is TOOL. I wore a TOOL t-shirt to the lady HEILUNG concert and I'm wearing my HEILUNG t-shirt to TOOL next week.
There's something in the lyrics: "as below so above and beyond I imagine, separates the body from the mind... Reaching out to embrace the random... Reaching out to whatever may come" that feels right, and rings true to me at HEILUNG and TOOL concerts.

Some people may think what he is saying is 'airy fairy rubbish' but just listen to Heilung and you will see that they do extremely well at creating that connection to a much more pure past where human existence and nature were still intimately linked.

    • @kreativuntermdach7351
      @kreativuntermdach7351 3 роки тому +1

I dont think that there was ever a more "pure" past. The use and overuse of nature is part of life itself, it can be seen in almost all other living beings. It is why most animals live nomadic or have huge territorys. Because they are depleting the nature around them and simply go somewhere else when that happens. Thing is, we are too many at this point and there is no more space to move into. So for the first time in history we actually have to live with our depleted surroundings and try taking steps to preserve it. But most people cant be bothered changing anything, sadly.

"We were making the music that we always wanted to hear, but didn't exist".
So many musicians start bands in the hopes that their music will be successful or will at least be appreciated but often come of up short and fail for whatever reason. So what a rare bird it is that a band like Heilung comes along at the right place and the right time and puts all the pieces together and immediately appeal to almost everyone. I just found Heilung barely a week ago and I was absolutely spellbound the moment I clicked on their video. They deserve every bit of success that comes their way. Well Done and Congratulations, Heilung!!

What an eloquent and intelligent guy Kai is and what a lot of research and wisdom has been drawn through this music, which I always think of as pure Shamanic medicine which plainly elicits none ordinary states of consciousness. I would have liked to have heard more about it as this reawakening is the most important aspect to me as it draws something so deep inside which seems to be recognised by everyone, so is a universal truth. This is so timely, as if it signals the stirring of the ancient ways coming to the surface once again, but this time we will not allow it to be put asleep again by evil forces.

I fully agree with the whole "break from technology" and the modern world basically. It's not something that nobody has said before, people know this inside, but it's actually a rather difficult discipline if you do simply live in the modern world. - As someone who actually loves technology, like computers and such, not only for technology in general, but also for entertainment and also for creative works and inspirations actually, I do get exhausted from it and burn out on it. Then there's also stuff like having a regular or normal job... I'm glad groups like Heilung exist to create rituals for the public and also have a break and get grounded and so forth. I've been listening to this kind of music for a few years now, after coming from Metal being the main course, and I really needed that change. I'll also be joining a ritual tomorrow, finally after it having been delayed from late 2019 to early 2023.

Reigniting dormant genes is entirely possibly through epigenetics. Based on our experiences, certain genes are expressed while others remain largely dormant. I find this fascinating.

Whaaaaaat? You work at the University of Colorado at Boulder?
I'm starting at CSU in spring. Not the Boulder campus, but still! This is a subject I'm extremely interested in. I'm a biochemistry major, but that's my mind, this is soul, and I would be doing myself a disservice if I ignored it.
