@@gqsak I mean you’re right but you’re also not. Being a fan as long as I have and reading dev notes and seeing concept art from Raising The Bar and other places online, a lot of which is hard to find now due to it being lost to old 404’d pages or dead forums, this is insanely close to the original vision they had for HL2. He’s right, it doesn’t have that cheesed out fan fiction quality to it that most of the other mods trying to achieve the original vibe have. There’s hardly any voice acting or guidance on where to go or what to do which I would imagine would be changed after further development, and the atmosphere is especially oppressive. The color palette isn’t nearly as vibrant as the final game would end up being and scale of some of these maps is incredibly large. So don’t be a negative Nancy about it, please.
Is funny to hear that considering that the newer version has fan-fic stuff like the popular headcanon of the "CITADEL IS ALIVE!!!11!" but is much more like a reimagination anyways
Can we just talk about how fucking brilliant that intro is? Like really, they removed it from the later builds in favor of the boat path but damn this version was better. In my opinion. Could do with a bit of beautification but the ideas it had were great, how the world slowly turns into the alien combine dystopia around you.
@@visual_novel_stories Still had more going on than in the old intro for Dark Interval. I'm glad it was changed. People just like it because they think that old=better.
Wow! That looks amazing, the train ride working with less jank was a standout along with the heavy detail, I'd love to see a fusion between this and the already brilliant new Dark Interval
Numerous people here are praising the beginning, I also think the intro, train ride and train station are awesome and with a little tarting up could've been made into the best of beta mods.
In a way this is more immersive than the retail version. This is more like the real world, you can just walk and walk and nothing much happens most of the time- you just explore the world... Nothing contrived or cool happens in reality most of the time. :)) It's kind of refreshing to just explore. Also I still think beta textures are nicer than retail too.
I dont mind the changes they made with the latest version of the mod, but I cant believe they scrapped this intro for the lame boat one, the borealis intro feels totally out of place.

I like this version a lot better. We have the visual of the past life before the Combine, seen decaying before our very eyes on the train ride. I don't mind the Borealis intro for the mod, but I liked the direction the old building was going in a bit more than what we have.
I downloaded the mod, played it and no problems at all. Did you download the Source SDK Base 2006, 2007 and 2013? (Because in my computer, I have 2006, 2007 and 2013 Singleplayer and Multiplayer downloaded.) If you didn't download them then it might be the case that you're having missing textures. You need to download all the source sdk bases. Then you put the mod into your sourcemods which is in the steamapps folder. Once you do that restart steam and you're all set
@@lucasss1543 well you don't need to download all of them. You can just download 1, the mod page might say which sdk you need. I downloaded them all and that worked for me. But yes 2007 2009 and 2013
If you wish to play this mod yourself there is ModDB page in description. You will find DL link there.

Question: is a half life 2 mod? or a hl2 beta mod?
THIS ! THIS IS the kind of HL2 beta mod i want... A mod that is 100% faithfull to the original storyline and aesthetic valve was originaly going for
it would be pretty terrible to do this as valve never finished the storyline.

Finally some good beta content that doesn't have that fanfiction quality to it.
Any mod will always be fanfiction. Fans are not original developers. They do not have clear documents where and how it should look.
