Thanks for the very informative video. I am looking to purchase a stationary workout bike instead of a trainer and I was curious to see what the various apps looked like...
hi great info thanks, I'm looking to do Leadville and just bought a Neot2, I would like to find an App that has the leadville course included. do any of these have MTB courses? specifically Leadville, also do you like Trainer road
Hi Pablo - I have so many questions but I'll try to keep simple. Can any of these be used with any kind of exercise bike (I got the Jokoto X2). Also, which is the simpliest (I am a beginning & not concerned about price) but my question is how is it that I sync my bike to the app? Some people have said Wahoo Cadence device, some have said it's no good and others say I don't need it at all. Mind you, I am really not very concerned about stats such as speed, cadence, calories etc (my bike already has some kind of digitital read out on it) but what I DO want is to be able to "feel" like I am actually riding on the trails, streets, etc along with the other riders. In order words, I want a virtual experience. How do I get that? I have Windows 10 laptop and Android phone but I'll get an Ipad if that's what I need. Be specific if you can and thank you so much!
I love your bike / cycling videos showing video routs on each app. Here I bought a Stryde Bike trying to understand how to use or interface these apps that you show in your videos, I don’t have a smart trainer… Is there a way to interface them with my Stryde Bike? Or to mirror them? Thank you 😊
On Rouvy, it's a lot of fun as a person starting out with group rides, for any level, challenges and to be able to ride all over the world with real videos. It's awesome!!
I had a Direto smart trainer and unfortunately I had to take it back because of some issues with connectivity . I did two FTP test and I lost connection both times mid way also while riding , since it needs power to work it wasn't able to change intensity . I changed it for a tack, thanks for the reviews. do you have anything on how to create a indoor cycling studio , like what is the best computer to use, stands, mats, fans, and how to set it up. new to this like many other in times of isolation. thanks
Hey David, Your HR monitor should pair directly to the app you use. So depending on the Hr monitor you have and app, you should be able to pair it directly to the app via Bluetooth or Ant+ regardless of your smart trainer. Thanks for subscribing 🙏🏼
Yes, you do. Your bike or bike trainer will need to be able to send speed or power information to the app. FulGaz gives you the ability to ride in steady mode if you don’t have any sensors.
@@SmartBikeTrainers Thank you for your reply. No I am using DIY rollers , we are in Lockdown and can't sit for 6 weeks and dont do any Cycling 🥵. I just had to made a plan.
If you have a power meter on your bike, you can pair it to any of these apps and ride. But of course your DIY rollers won’t simulate the elevation profile you see on the screen.
@@SmartBikeTrainers Thank you. Will give it a try... Yes i have notice about the elevation But that is okay as long as i can get some training in and something to keep my mind busy when Cycling 🚴♂️💨. Thank you for your reply. Appreciate it 👍
The video was about smart cycling apps that provide sim videos on real routes. Zwift is a graphical gamified app and only provide a small number of worlds based on real routes. Peloton provides studio type workouts and is not interactive. Their video scenic routes are not interactive.
I am new to this. How can I know which bike I need to purchase to use with these apps? I am mostly interested in the BingRingVr or Kinomap. What is the difference of using these apps to the Peloton bike?
The Peloton bike is a closed system so it will only work with the Peloton app and all the Peloton classes. BigRingVR, Kinomap works with any smart bike or a smart bike trainer where you use your own bike and attach it to the bike trainer. The bike or bike trainer have to broadcast power data via Bluetooth. All the bike trainers on this list is compatible with the apps I mentioned in this video: www.smartbiketrainers.com/indoor-smart-bike-trainers-price-tracker
This was fixed for all except Android OS by 1st October 2020, and I have just completed a Rouvy AR ride (Windows 10) with ANT+. Android ANT+ support is promised for December.
Can I ask. I have home stationary bike. There is app in android BitGym which can simulate the speed of country video movement based on the camera detection of head move. No crazy hardware needed and looks well. Is there something similar on PC version to use webcam please? Are there any existing sensors solutions I can put on pedals of stationary bike to control speed of video stream where there are country cycles movies for free? Pls advice if there is some not profesional, but easy solution for this. Best I want it just for my kids to use stationary bike and watching free video on youtube, just with some simple sensor webam or pedals....to control video speed moving. Thx in advance
@@SmartBikeTrainers You might want to show the name of the apps when you edit your videos. I had the same issue understanding what app you were talking about.
Really enjoying the videos. I am waiting on my first ever smart trainer, a Tacx Smart Flow. I have a MacBook Pro, old iPad, and an Android phone. The question is, will I need to purchase an Ant+ dongle to be able to use these apps, including Zwift? Or does the app use Bluetooth to connect to the trainer, while the trainer uses Ant+ to interface with my devices (Wahoo Elemnt and heart rate monitor)?
I stopped Rouvy...complicated setup and I had difficulty knowing if I was riding with a real person or a computer generated person. Also, it was the only app that timed out my computer every 20-30 mins.
All riders are live on Rouvy on training rides and in races. Only using virtual partners that you pick are not live. Please contact support@rouvy.com for any technical issues and they will help you sort it out.
Most road bikes will do. Also, you will need a bike trainer Or a dedicated smart bike from Wahoo, Garmin Tacx NEO, or Stages. I have a list of smart bikes and bike trainers in this link. All will work with apps mentioned in this video www.smartbiketrainers.com/deals
Hi, I am new to smart trainers. ...enjoyed your video. I have a few questions: 1) what are the pro's and con's of using a bike trainer -vs- Stationary bike 2) how much difference does it make to have a trainer that has a device that will lift the forks up and down to simulate elevation? what are the best trainers that have this function? 3) are there trainers/stationary bikes that also allow leaning left and right to more accurately simulate a real ride? Thank you
Hey Ron- a trainer will allow you to use your own bike. Where a stationary bike can be limited as far as fit go. However, bikes like the kickr smart bike and Tacx Neo have a wide range of fit and you can come very close to duplicating your fit. Also, with a stationary bike, you don’t have to worry about using your own bike indoors and can be easier for households with multiple riders. 2. Not much. It can help to simulate climbs and provide more interactivity with the terrains. The wahoo kickr has the climb which you can attach your bike to. Or you can get the Kickr smart bike which has that functionality. See my kickr bike review. 3. Yes, the Kinetic R1 allow for side to side movement. Also, the Tacx Neo 2 has a little flex but limited. I reviewed all these trainers and you should find my videos under the Smart trainer category or smart bikes. Let me know if you have any other question. Thanks for watching.
i don't understand, i'm new to searching for this stuff... i want to use a VR headset... this seems like i would have to prop up my iPad and stare at it... what's up?
my question as well. do these apps work with oculus for example i'm in the learning curve phase myself. It would appear that the only app that works with an Oculus, is VZfit All the ones reviewed above rely on a tablet or smart TV. hope to learn more
It should work out of the box as long as it’s charged. Do you see blue lights on the Runn when you connect it to a charger? Also, try downloading their new Configurez app to see if you can connect to it: npe-inc.com/applications/
Are you seeing speed in the app but not Zwift? How are you connecting to Zwift using Bluetooth? Also, adjust the position of the Runn. It’s possible the run isn’t picking up the stickers on the belt.
The tacx application has a lot of potential, but they have not realized it for their self-centeredness. Rouvy is very good but her AR avatar is very poor. Full Gas-Big Ring are very similar but BR must improve their interfaces. Kinomap is like CVR 😂😂😂
Rouvy is totally different in that you have avatars overlaid on top of real camera GPS video footage of the actual route. It's about realism on Rouvy and an immersive experience.

Some works with a speed sensor only but to get the best out of these apps, it’s best to use with a smart trainer or a smart bike.
