Hello, thanks for taking your time to make this video. I'm an absolute beginner and I lose track of where you're at in the install process. Don't assume we are as good at this as you are. As a helpful comment for me to you please spend a little more time on where you navigate on the web. For example, it took me several minutes to find the link to install go. But again thanks. I'm so happy you found us through recommendation, that's the community building I'm always talking about! :) I'm going to be making another version of Installing SIFT but this time we'll be installing the premade SIFT VM (.ova) which has more tools preinstalled (plus a cool wallpaper). I'll make a video on WSL for y'all, in fact how about I make a video where we set up a Windows Forensics workstation!? That way we'll have multiple OS' in our Labs. Stay tuned friends!
@@thejesterscastle8394 one love 😎😎🤘🏼🤘🏼 a windows based forensics station sounds awesome ... and so does the premade SIFT VM! Keep em coming! Thank you :-)
Thank You for your precious tutorial. Can I have please a little more help? When I'm trying to install cosign via Go, I receive this answer: The go.mod file for the module providing named packages contains one or more replace directives. It must not contain directives that would cause it to be interpreted differently than if it were the main module. And I don't know how to fix it. Thanks in advance!!
It could be a version error, makes sure the version is GO 1.16.4. Also if you haven't checked the blog out it has the steps in detail: jameskainth.com/cyber/blog/2022/01/24/SiftUbuntuInstall.html If following with the site doesn't help, feel free to reach out at jameskainth.com/contact and we can do some troubleshooting
hi. really thank you for this tutorial. Can I have a little more help please? when i command $ sift --help it says, bash: /usr/local/bin/sift: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error According to what I found, this error occurs when the architecture does not match. my laptop is Macbook M1 and im installing sift in my vm(it is utm) ubuntu. and i installed go1.17.8.linux-arm64.tar.gz cosign-linux-arm64 is it right???
I'm not sure about support for the new Macs, but i'd be happy to troubleshoot with you if you want to schedule something, send me a note here jameskainth.com/contact
Also make sure you're using GO 1.16.4. as that version is the one that work specifically for the latest version of SIFT, they'll most likely update this later
After receiving some emails, it appears the cli has been updated, please refer to the latest video here: ua-cam.com/video/yXuSPZEUcYk/v-deo.html

I've tried with go get instead of go install, but the only thing I get is a crash of the Terminal :(
