There’s a fun part about the game’s fashion history that I like. Some of the older characters in the franchise debuted back when the games were super pixelated, but the creator wanted them to have distinctive fashion all the same. So he designed them to have certain pieces of clothing or accessories-like Johnny’s belt-as big as possible, so he could detail them in the pixelated art style properly. By the time the games got more high-detail, these oversized bits of fashion were already iconic to the characters, so what once was artistic license became the characters legitimately wearing dramatically oversized accessories here and there.
I love that your main complaint with Johnny's outfit is that he didnt have enough belts and buckles. You understand the aesthetics of this franchise 100%
One thing that I really appreciate about Nagoriyuki's look is that his leather jacket/leather skirt combo is meant to emulate a samurai's kata-hada. His backstory is that he's a Nigerian who became a samurai, and emulating a traditional Japanese look using more modern, foreign clothing styles is a cool way of blending that into his design.
You definitely described it better than i was able to articulate. I feel like a lot for characters had that typical samurai design, but i did appreciate how his specifically felt more modern and somewhat streetstyle. That's what i was getting at with the comments around the jacket.

something you might like about Bridget's handcuff specifically. She's a bounty hunter and uses the big handcuff to capture people (as far as characters go she's pretty small so its too big for her but about the right size for many gg characters) but as a remedy for this during gameplay shes always dancing and swaying side to side like she's hula hooping in order to keep the handcuff from falling.
You gotta appreciate how Strive took a lot of the hyper-eccentric designs of Xrd and made them more palettable while also staying true to the character's evolution. It makes a lot of the outfits feel more viable for high or alternative fashion in the real world in a way that compliments and is complimented by the artstyle.
I was worried you wouldn't talk about Ky's outfit since a lot of the community finds him boring and I was so glad when you mentioned him at the end with his son Sin. Ky's over the shoulder jacket is a nod to his previous Holy Order uniform but with the more casual outfit underneath to show how his character has mellowed out over the years. Also Ky has hope written on his belt buckle as a testament to his ideals and Sol has free written on his just to make fun of Ky.
I don't understand people's dislike of the Strive decision. If anything, I think it's the freshest Ky has looked and it correlates well with the evolution of his mindset, like you mentioned and it also looks amazing in motion in-game. If anything, I think the Xrd design is now the worst one to me, the ponytail doesn't fit him at all and I think the fact that it's essentially the Holy Order design (which is already perfect) with added frills and whatever makes it really weak. If instead they kept the cape from his Intro/instant Kill or went to a design similar to Overture or less baggy, he would've looked better in my eyes.
Wait, people's opinion on Ky is one thing, but his Strive redesign is absolutely his freshest look yet. Allthough I've seen some comments think he looks too K-Pop now and less regal, which I disagree. The jacket hanging over his shoulders like a cape is so smart. It says so much about him being a king but is presented more elagently than let's say his Overture design which went a bit overboard. Tldr: 10/10 outfit.

Anji's design of going crop jacket without a shirt is actually a decision of the character in lore. Supposedly, he doesn't wear a shirt because it encourages him to not get hit and be hurt, complimenting his dancing fighting style of dodging through an opponent's attack.
"Argh! Women's style confounds me! Is this scandalous? Or classy?! I cannot tell!" Leo to Elphelt after winning. Pretty much sums up why I love her style

I know you already had a ton of suggestions but a King of Fighters fashion design analysis would be cool, specially if you compare the different outfits from the same character(many characters change outfit, some year by year, others every 3 or 4 years)
Really great hearing you talk about all these designs. I'm a big Guilty Gear fan so it was great getting the perspective of someone judging the designs without knowing all the backstories and playstyles, and seeing how much of their character was able to come across visually.
I am SO HAPPY I found your channel. I'm really not big into fashion but I really am enjoying your videos. You have really great vibes and I'm really am looking forward to other content you make.
Aw man I was hoping you'd cover A.B.A's or Testaments older design! They're some of my personal favourites because of how grunge/dark they are, and A.B.A's entire look is super cute!
I’m really into fashion and REALLY into guilty gear. it’s so interesting to hear fresh commentary about the outfits only. I’ve been playing so long I have character bias
It's funny you mention Caitlyn from LoL, because when Testament's new design was revealed, I saw so many people who were pointing out the similarity between the two, lol.
IM LEARNING HOW TO DRESS, thanks! :D it's awesome how you commentary helps to understand and translate to the reality this fantasy designs into cool and usable outfits, gotta wait for that genshin analysis
Slayers outfit is actually black but when cell shading (the style of digital coloring) they used a greenish grey to highlight the black so the design wasn't a wall of black in his character design, thus making it look murky and the details of the pleats in his dress pants being lost in the official art work.
Another really interesting video. I had definitely noticed the same omnipresence of belts and buckles, but hadn't really connected it to YuGiOh- but now that I think about it, the two series share a surprising amount of design similarities. Really glad to see you so up on Millia's look, as she is one of my favorites from the games and I think she is great in diverging heavily from the look of a lot of the other female characters, which unfortunately default to some variation of a "sexy no-pants" kind of thing. Also very onboard with your love for I-No's hat, which really is pretty iconic to her whole look and vibe.
I'm just glad you touched on my favorites, but that also comes along with knowing their personalities. What I love about Guilty Gear is their outfits speak for their characters, one look at them and you can immediately understand their tones, personalities, and behaviors. I think the way they're posed also feeds into that but man they're just fantastic characters, and I think the franchise is worth investing into. Also gonna cap it off with saying superb content, I'm not the type of guy to get into the nitty gritty of analyzing fashion but your videos prove very fun to watch.
I think Baiken's outfit is interesting though it's really hard to see from her Strive key-art, it focused on other things (... Like the sword). The black jacket tied over the shoulders, the tattered sleeve, the trim and patterns on the robe, and the eyepiece!
I'm obsessed with the way you say body confidence. It's the third video of you i see now and i always smile when you say it, you seem so happy for the characters fjdjdjd I love it ! Great job!
The thing about Guilty Gear's design philosophy is that it's all based on metal and rock music. The characters, move names, and fashion is all based off of that. The creator of the series is also responsible for the metal soundtrack
"A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one". Didn't expect a video about Guilty Gear cause it's still quite niche franchise. Love your video and love your content! Would be great to see your opinion on BlazBlue characters outfits too!
@@XDF Also as a heads up testament is nonbinary and goes by they/them ! Their latest fit is definitely one of my all time favourites but I have to say I do have a weak spot for Baiken's Xrd design and how it mixes the ronin style with some school uniform/biker gang vibes for the contrast
man i just appreciate the respect you give to the design even if you don like it that much, anime fashion and in general japanese fashion to me is amazing, love your work and i hope to see more of this videos
Thanks for noticing - I definitely admire the talent it takes to design any of these characters, but we're only human; not everything can resonate. But can always respect the talent
Hasn't even been 2 mins but I'm just gonna say it, Happy Chaos has a great outfit I saw the concept and although the design does get carried by the characters design its still just really confident and rebellious that I adore it
I found your channel through your jojo videos but your commentary and explanations on fashion is super enjoyable, so I’ll definitely be here for more videos! It’s really fun hearing about character outfit designs from a more fashionable point of view, as an artist I’ve only really looked at designs from, well, an artistic standpoint
As a huge guilty gear fan I'm loving all of the content I'm seeing with people with no connection to the series sharing their input on the character designs, music, and in this one, fashion! I think you touched on a lot of the characters and specific pieces that I love the most - I was so happy when you pointed out the red pieces around Sol's waist, its such an incredible touch to me. I also found it funny when you compared May and Bridget - the two characters entered the series as cutesy characters with very evocative outfits(May of a pirate, Bridget of a nun), and they both entered Strive with major outfit changes that modernized their looks in similar ways. The two were shown together a lot in the early games as the ray-of-sunshine girl characters, and I love how their redesigns match each other as they mature into young women with an open view of the world and the freedom to present themselves as unique individuals. Maybe baggy sweatshirts and soft comfort clothes isn't the most bold look, but I think it's a cute expression of individuality and freedom in a series entry that's full of characters with similarly exposing(MOSTLY figurative :3) redesigns. That's always how I read into their outfits, at least.
You mentioned King of Fighters so I wanna see that review in the future. I'm not well versed with Guilty Gear but having watched the JoJo videos prior to this I knew I had to watch this video because I really like your commentary.
I rarely leave any comments but I just wanted to say you scratch such a unique itch of fashion and anime in me. This is the content I've needed for a while. Your taste is spot on with mine. If you need some content ideas for the future, you should show some of your own ideas too since I would love to see some inspired fashion work that you might have.
I have no idea how did I get here haha but I guess it was a mix between me searching Guilty Gear and drawing tutorials lol but honestly that was a nice surprise, your inputs on how the design of the characters were made actually gave me some insight in my character concept art classes, thank you very much
Great review! You definitely were picking up on how much detail there is to each outfit. Every square inch has something cool going on with it. And if you watch Anji Mito gameplay I guarantee you'll love his outfit even more. The way it flows and moves
Love that this is becoming a series. I look forward to more. Fashion has never been something I've been super interested in but you talking about it through the context of character design is making me want to learn more.
OMG if you go too deep into the fighting games there are a lot of extravagances there. But yeah, the video was super interesting. If I had a body like Ky's, I would definitely try his outfit. The jacket over his shoulder is dramatic and fashionable to me. Personally, I would like to see a Final Fantasy video, one with the protagonists and one with the antagonists. The Edea/Artemis's dress is incredible. And also, what about the new Nikki trailer? It is a game about dressing a girl and the last dress in the trailer is wonderful. Take a look at Nikki's series. And well, there is a lot of JRPGs that deserve analysis. Good job my friend. Great content
Really enjoyed hearing your insights on this, especially on the colors since I dont tend to think about those so much. Arc systemworks(the developers) have made some merch like mays and bridgets hoodie but I wish they'd make more, I would totally wear something like nagoryukis jacket. Also really loved your outfit for this video, the only thing that could make it more guilty gear would be having random little words/phrases engraved/printed on some part.
Really love the earnest and detailed critique/analysis of the fashion of fantasy characters. It's an aspect that people generally just say "wow, they look cool!" too.
I'm actually really enjoying these outfit analysis videos. You bring such a good energy to it and teach me a lot. It's been a while since I've watched it, but I remember Yu Yu Hakusho having tons of different outfits for the main cast but they all likely are still super 90s in aesthetic
I don't even know anything about Guilty Gear besides Sol and Bridget, but damn I love these designs so much! Also really like the commentary you give with these videos, it is entertaining but also very insightful. Keep up the good work with your videos :)
No way you did a Guilty Gear looks video! It's was always a niche franchise in such a niche genre and I'm really glad more people are getting into it after STRIVE came out. The soundtracks are all phenomenal (if you are into rock music that is) and the lore is absolutely WILD with fantasy and scifi themes matched together in such a cool way I can't describe in words.
Venom is openly gay, bridget is trans, and testament is NB. Love that for them (but lets be real, all the characters are queer) but GG's queer rep is miles ahead of a lot of games we get from japan, which is a bittersweet feeling.
I absolutely love Milla's Strive outfit (the one you showed). It's clean, it commands confidence and respect, and it looks damn cozy to be in too. I love Bridget's outfit because (aside from the giant cuff) it just looks and feels practical. It's something you can wear any day, for most occasions.
recently came across your pages randomly a couple days ago looking at the jojo videos and saw your outfit review. also recently got into fighting games and just picked up guilty gear yesterday and am liking it a lot and then you uploaded this! For sure going to check more videos out!
I really love that you don't just go about only rating the newest game that's out and that you do enough research to understand what's going on despite not knowing about the game prior. (Really glad you took a look at Raven) Also I really like Testament's older designs did you have a preference when you looked or did you just pick the newest iteration?
My research could always be better, but I definitely try to get a decent understanding 🙏🏽 And I honestly just went with most recent iterations and the most consistent image concepts across all characters
I didn't expect this to happen, but I approve. I have been loving your analysis on the JoJo Outfits for awhile and I somewhat watched some other videos, Good stuff!
Another great fashion analysis X! I love the Guilty Gear series and becasue of that i recommend the BlazBlue series. It is also a fighting game series and by the same developers, so some design aspects are similar but it still has it's own identity. Oh and all other Fighting Games are good picks for video material. Btw Zato-One is actually voiced by the same voice actor as Dio in japanese and it really fits! He also has some poses in game which could be straight out of Jojo. Oh and Axl can stop time like Jotaro and also poses with a finger point :D Guilty Gear is just so fun
1. I love how your own outfits match the style(s) in the video 2. Now I want to see you checking Street Fighter (or maybe a “Capcom VS” game in general)
Really want you to look at kazuma kaneko's and doi's art from early to mid atlus from SMT, devil summomer, DDS and Persona 1 and 2, if its something that you would be interested in diving into. Really enjoying your fashion videos even if im just a normal guy that just wears shirts and jeans

It's interesting hearing about the designs from this perspective, as i'd say i'm a bit far from the fashion world but anyone can still enjoy it from a distance I would like to mention how some parts of the design are linked to what type of character they are in the story (which is why you see that cuff as a belt for bridget, but not for other characters), that shouldn't affect an opinion from an outsider's perspective but yeah, sometimes there are reasons That being said, if possible i would like to hear if your opinion on sin changes with the extra context that he's 5 years old

I LOVE THE ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM! this is so therapeutic
Such great feedback to receive - ty! 🙏🏽
It's funny you mention Caitlyn from LoL, because when Testament's new design was revealed, I saw so many people who were pointing out the similarity between the two, lol.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought so
IM LEARNING HOW TO DRESS, thanks!
Wow guilty gear is honestly a great choice for these videos
It really is! I enjoyed discovering these styles
I know nothing about fashion, but I love the GG franchise.
This was very fun to watch! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed!
Glad we're aligned on a lot of the observations 🙌🏽
Indeed - she has a noteworthy look 👍🏽
The way I instantly clicked on this when I saw it, so excited to see your opinion on the slayest of video games
Love it - thanks for being part of the early crew! 🙌🏽
@@gaybee7217 Thanks for letting me know - there are some sneaky character pronouns that always get me here and there.
man i just appreciate the respect you give to the design even if you don like it that much, anime fashion and in general japanese fashion to me is amazing, love your work and i hope to see more of this videos
Thanks for noticing - I definitely admire the talent it takes to design any of these characters, but we're only human; not everything can resonate. But can always respect the talent
Hasn't even been 2 mins but I'm just gonna say it, Happy Chaos has a great outfit I saw the concept and although the design does get carried by the characters design its still just really confident and rebellious that I adore it
Yes indeed - loving his nonchalant and body confident style 👌🏽
I found your channel through your jojo videos but your commentary and explanations on fashion is super enjoyable, so I’ll definitely be here for more videos! It’s really fun hearing about character outfit designs from a more fashionable point of view, as an artist I’ve only really looked at designs from, well, an artistic standpoint
Glad you could see the value in the content :)
I'm not well versed with Guilty Gear but having watched the JoJo videos prior to this I knew I had to watch this video because I really like your commentary.
glad to see you reviewing and appreciating fashion beyond the runway.
Most definitely - I've grown up loving anime and video games, and have always loved how characters are designed 😊
Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback 🙌🏽
Always so great to hear it :) Thanks for watching along
@@XDF I also meant to mention. You are looking like a jojo character with this outfit and I mean that in the best possible way.
God your videos are so fun, as a huge fighting game nerd it was a real treat to see you give your thoughts on one of my favorites😁
Love that feedback - glad the good vibes are still rolling
i always love watching ppl who know a lot about fashion review such over the top designs like this lmao, great video :)
Thank you so much!!
Yes - Ky is definitely giving us some great style
Absolutely love your outfit inspired by Guilty Gear. Super on brand! You just need an oversized dramatic hat and you're officially a character! 😁😁
So true on the hat 🕺🏽
Really enjoyed hearing your insights on this, especially on the colors since I dont tend to think about those so much. Arc systemworks(the developers) have made some merch like mays and bridgets hoodie but I wish they'd make more, I would totally wear something like nagoryukis jacket.
Also really loved your outfit for this video, the only thing that could make it more guilty gear would be having random little words/phrases engraved/printed on some part.
I've always adored the topic of character design, so it's interesting to get a more fashion-focused opinion on some of my favorite characters.
Glad to hear!
I love guilty gear and it’s home to some of my favourite character designs and outfits
Loving all the videos excited to see what you discuss next
Love to hear it!
Insta like! as always love your opinions of different characters in different franchise, love from Argentina 🖤
Yay, thank you! Appreciate the early hype! :D
I don't even know anything about Guilty Gear besides Sol and Bridget, but damn I love these designs so much! Also really like the commentary you give with these videos, it is entertaining but also very insightful. Keep up the good work with your videos :)
Appreciate the encouragement :D
No way you did a Guilty Gear looks video! It's was always a niche franchise in such a niche genre and I'm really glad more people are getting into it after STRIVE came out. The soundtracks are all phenomenal (if you are into rock music that is) and the lore is absolutely WILD with fantasy and scifi themes matched together in such a cool way I can't describe in words.
Great video! The youtube algorithm is definitely blessing you right now and I'm excited to see more :)
Thank you so much!! Plenty more to come :)
I have no idea who you are but this vid popped up on my recommended and I loved it. Big fan of the vibes and passion you have
Really appreciate it 🙏🏽
Im coming directly from the FGC, this is the kinda thing we don't see very often- and im super here for it!
I've been getting that kind of feedback, and it's really encouraging, thank you
You’ve quickly become one of my new favorite UA-camrs from your Jojo videos and now this, love it love it
Ma dude , i truly respect your content creation spirit , keep it up king 😁👍 keep posting
You got it - really appreciate the positive reinforcement 🙌🏽
The black top that you wear here is straight up fire 🙌🙇🏻♀️
Thank you! 🖤
We need to bring the fashion trend of having small poetic phrases written in random places on your clothes into real life
Venom is openly gay, bridget is trans, and testament is NB. Love that for them (but lets be real, all the characters are queer) but GG's queer rep is miles ahead of a lot of games we get from japan, which is a bittersweet feeling.
Gotta appreciate some queer characters where we can get them 🙌🏽
I LOOOOOVE the outfit you’re wearing in this vid!!!! 💕💕💕
Thanks for appreciating the style! 🙌🏽
Love your taste in topics for your vids! Your outfit slays btw.
Thank you so much!!
Cant wait to see your Final fantasy outfits series! 🥰 Keep it coming!
love that you looked at the outfits of the older and newer games
recently came across your pages randomly a couple days ago looking at the jojo videos and saw your outfit review.
also recently got into fighting games and just picked up guilty gear yesterday and am liking it a lot and then you uploaded this! For sure going to check more videos out!
What awesome timing - thanks for watching the content! :)
Glad you're enjoying the analyses 🙌🏽
Another great fashion analysis X! I love the Guilty Gear series and becasue of that i recommend the BlazBlue series. It is also a fighting game series and by the same developers, so some design aspects are similar but it still has it's own identity.
Oh and all other Fighting Games are good picks for video material.
Btw Zato-One is actually voiced by the same voice actor as Dio in japanese and it really fits! He also has some poses in game which could be straight out of Jojo.
Oh and Axl can stop time like Jotaro and also poses with a finger point :D Guilty Gear is just so fun
Glad to know axl's threads are getting some love!
Keep up the good work man.😎
Thanks a bunch! 🙌🏽
Great video. The break down of fashion is so rich
So glad you think so
Love love *love* getting these little nuggets about how to break up monotony and balancing
I'm not big into fashion but your analysis was so well done I was thoroughly pleased with this video.
So glad to hear - thanks!
1. I love how your own outfits match the style(s) in the video
Appreciate the suggestions. I'm sure I'll find my way to some of those eventually :)
Glad this ended up in my recommendations, this channel is such a cool concept. Hope you'll tackle the Street Fighter 6 designs once the whole roster is officially revealed!
X you’re honestly on a roll!!
Appreciate the hype! 🙌🏽
This is a really cool channel glad it got recommended to me
Thanks for checking out the video
Your outfit in this video SLAYS.
I sincerely appreciate that 🙏🏽
Yoooo, I need you to do a King of Fighters list. There's so much to delve into.
Oh wow UA-cam recommended me your JoJo vid a few weeks ago. Now youre doing one of my fav games of all time. Thanks for pointing out some stuff I've never noticed.
YEEEES keep up this kind of content!! I ADORE your outfit reviews and personality
Aaww - that means a lot, thank you!
Oooh, Tekken 7, King of Fighters 15, Blazblue Central Fiction, Street Fighter 5/6 and Skullgirls have interesting outfits to look at. Love your outfit breakdowns. ❤
Love that you belted yourself up for guilty gear lol
I was just watching your jojo outfit videos and saw this, guilty gear is one of my favorite series and I'm so glad you made a video on it! Trying to study fashion more for drawing and you really help out
Great and fantastic review. I love how you dissected their designs. But aaaah, my girl Baiken is not included in the video 😭
It's interesting hearing about the designs from this perspective, as i'd say i'm a bit far from the fashion world but anyone can still enjoy it from a distance
I would like to mention how some parts of the design are linked to what type of character they are in the story (which is why you see that cuff as a belt for bridget, but not for other characters), that shouldn't affect an opinion from an outsider's perspective but yeah, sometimes there are reasons
That being said, if possible i would like to hear if your opinion on sin changes with the extra context that he's 5 years old
Excited for more videos like this. 🩵😁
