Thank you Dr Leong for breaking this down in layman's terms for our understanding. I never have thought HCT was the most important, since the GP focused on platelet count whenever the lab report came back. It's also interesting to know that dengue gets worse in second dengue infection, and then it gets better in third and fourth. I caught dengue twice - first in 2016 and second in 2019. I took me two weeks to recover for my first dengue infection, while I recovered faster in a week for my second dengue infection (I even managed to complete a video game during my waking hours lol). What intrigued me in the first dengue infection till this day was what my GP mentioned. He said that the antigen was delayed. I didn't understand this. Dr Hoe, could you explain what does he mean? Also, could you shed some light why MOH didn't want to reveal which dengue type we get? I tried asking my GP but in both instances, he didn't give me an answer. I can only suspect I got DEN-2 (2016) and DENV-3 (2019), based on reported news.
Thank you for telling us about haematocrit. Also the more concentrated the haematocrit, the worse outcome. So we drink water until our urine is clear to dilute the blood and lower the haematocrit
