    Probability and statistics on Khan Academy: We dare you to go through a day in which you never consider or use probability. Did you check the weather forecast? Busted! Did you decide to go through the drive through lane vs walk in? Busted again! We are constantly creating hypotheses, making predictions, testing, and analyzing. Our lives are full of probabilities! Statistics is related to probability because much of the data we use when determining probable outcomes comes from our understanding of statistics. In these tutorials, we will cover a range of topics, some which include: independent events, dependent probability, combinatorics, hypothesis testing, descriptive statistics, random variables, probability distributions, regression, and inferential statistics. So buckle up and hop on for a wild ride. We bet you're going to be challenged AND love it!
    About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
    For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

    KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
    THIS IS EFFING AWESOME!
    I can't believe Khan is teaching us about Set Theory. I think he's finally starting more advanced Math.
    I feel like I am in a dream.
    I already know most of this stuff but nothing equals Khan's level of delivering a message so I'll watch them all at least three times each.
    Thank you, Sal.

    I came here to find out what I found - not trivial: the word is not element, by the way, but "object". That's a good reminder to my issure, which concers intersecting sets: two objects do exist, and they are the same. What I see in the intersecting set done is some reducing to 1 what had been 2: before there were two objects both 3, doing the intersecting reduces both distinct objects to one 3, and, to me in a paradox, is abstraction. I would have expected the math approach to algorhythmically stick to a "what's there is there", I consider the Venn as concrete as concrete may be. - I came here because - sure - I wouldn't put two 3s into the cut set. Just one. Not to boo me take persons, not numbers, and I hopper for the best. - Writing down: Imagine one set defined as not excluding but allowing the 3, not having it in though (some Ukraine, imagine). The cutting done here would not show the 3 - because this is a possibility only. I do think this reaches out to what's called "fuzzy". The "And" must not be read as "A not exclucing 3 AND B not excluding 3? To complicate: You may define by "allowances" - however, what about the one set having it the other just not in a state of non-exclusion? I am puzzles as it should not make a difference, as here, one 3 is one 3. Last thought: what differs is the look at either the set or the "object". Here, we talk about the object.

    What is the intersection if there are two of the same number/value in one of the sets, and only one of the number in the other set? E.g.
    X = {3, 3, 4} and Y = {3, 4, 5}

    • @WrathofMath
      @WrathofMath 5 років тому

      It's a little late, but sets are collections of unique, distinct, and unordered objects. So a set cannot have multiple of the same objects. Each element is unique, and all elements are distinct from each other. So if the set X = { 3, 3, 4 }, this is really just a confusing way to write the set, because a set can only count one 3. In other words { 3, 3, 4 } = { 3, 4 }. So X = { 3, 4 }. Then if Y = { 3, 4, 5 }, we have that X intersect Y equals { 3, 4 }. Hope that helps you or someone reading this in the future!
