Such a staple of childhood TV in the 1970s. Old-time movie theater shorts of the Stooges were run in a syndicated TV show decades later. The kind of thing that would play in the morning before school. These guys were universally known by multiple generations of fans.

My mother was Moe Howard’s last nurse right before he died. I was his penpal in the 70s … he sent me many gifts, photos, and autographs (that I still own). I also talked to him on the phone. The first time he called me from his hospital bed, I was so nervous that I hung up on him. 😂
He was truly a very kind man and loved children so much.

This kind of comedy short was originally made in the '30s and '40s to play before the feature film in the movie theaters. They resurfaced as children's programming when tv came along. I watched them every afternoon as a child in the '60s. Another popular series of shorts was the Little Rascals (Our Gang).

They were very famous and were a major part of my childhood in the 1950's and early 60's. I saw every single episode. I still find them funny and love seeing old episodes. They bring back many childhood memories. This type of humor is called "slapstick comedy" here in the U.S. Moe, Larry, and Curly, or in this case Moe, Larry, and Shemp. Moe Howard (Moses Horowitz 1897-1975), Curly Howard (Jerome Horowitz 1903-1952), and Shemp Howard (Sam Horowitz 1895-1955) were brothers. Larry Fine (Louis Feinberg 1902-1975) was a Vaudeville actor and violin player with whom the Howard brothers teamed up early in their careers and stayed together till the end.

Fun. I grew up with these. Definitely for kids. One of my favorites is the one where they pretend to be repairmen at a very wealthy home, but mix up the gas / electric lines with the water pipes and all sorts of ridiculous things happen during a fancy dinner party. One of the 3 Stooges trademarks was to poke fun at the aristocracy. Episode 46. A Plumbing We Will Go.

I'm sure many know the history, but some people in the comments are confused by Shemp. He is Moe's older brother (they almost look like twins). The original vaudeville act was Moe and Shemp Howard and Larry Fine. Shortly after they started films, Shemp left to pursue a solo career and was replaced by younger brother Curly. Years later, Curly had a stroke and Shemp returned. When Shemp eventually passed away, he was replaced by Joe Besser, and when Joe retired, he was replaced by 'Curly Joe' DeRita. Moe and Larry were always there. I know it's controversial, but Shemp was my favorite (followed by Larry). BTW, someone commented that Curly didn't speak, but I think they must have been confusing him with Harpo Marx, because Curly definitely spoke!

The Three Stooges have been a staple of American comedy since the 1950's, and are widely seen everywhere today. They did hundreds of black-and-white "short subject" films such as this one, but also did full-length color feature films. There have also been Three Stooges cartoons on TV and a Three Stooges comic book series.

Originally, in their days onstage in vaudeville, the act was called Ted Healy and his Two Stooges. Ted Healy was a tall, distinguished looking singer who would come out and sing a song or two. Then Shemp and Moe, the Two Stooges (who were brothers), would interrupt the show -- sometimes they'd be audience members heckling the singer, sometimes they'd be janitors wanting the singer to get off the stage so they could sweep up, that sort of thing. There would be an argument, which would turn into a big slap-fight, and Healy would end up violently ejecting the Stooges from the stage, after which he'd sing a final song, applause, applause.
Healy was an alcoholic, and also did everything he could to cheat his partners at every opportunity. He took three-fourths of all the money the act made, and Shemp and Moe had to split the rest. When they made friends with Larry Fine and invited him to join the act as a third Stooge, the three of them had to split that 25%. Finally tiring of Healy's tyranny, the Three Stooges broke away to perform without the singer.
They got a chance to audition for MGM Studios, but the producers only liked Shemp, and offered him a solo contract. He took the offer, with the blessings of the other two, and went on to star in a rather large number of Shemp Howard comedy short subjects. Meanwhile, Moe recruited his other brother Curly Howard, who took Shemp's place onstage. Sometime later, this iteration of the Stooges got a contract working for Columbia Studios, and began making all the classic Three Stooges shorts that everybody loves so much.
After a few years, though, Curly began suffering a series of strokes that really damaged his health, and he was forced to retire. Shemp willingly rejoined the Stooges to keep the act going, and stayed with them for a number of years, till ill health also forced him out.
The studio forced a new Stooge on Moe and Larry, a man named Joe Besser, who was a minor contract player. Besser, though, was something of a diva, refused to participate in the team's more violent antics -- he absolutely hated being slapped in the face -- and did not get along with the other two at all. When the Stooges' contract lapsed, the studio didn't renew it, and they were out of a job.
Several years later though, the old Stooges shorts were syndicated to television and became extremely popular. The studio got Moe and Larry back together again, and since both Shemp and Curly were dead by now, they recruited a new third Stooge, Joe DeRita, an extremely nice guy they both really liked. In fact, because Joe bore a certain resemblance to Curly, Moe insisted he take on the name Curly Joe. This iteration of the team made, not short subjects, but several feature-length movies.

This short was the final appearance of the legendary stooge Curly Howard . He’s the crazy chef faking an accent. Curly was last in Hold My Lion about two years earlier. Malice in the Palace was unfortunately deep into Curly’s stroke. He had a bad stroke on set and was found slumped on the director’s chair. He returned for Hold My Lion but he was sitting on a train barking with a full head of hair. He wasn’t able to get the full bark but it was a flash of the old Curly again. Malice in the Palace was bad for Curly as he got seriously tired after a single swing of a fake cleaver. He was really bad but at least he tried. Curly died after Malice in the Palace due to a huge stroke in his sleep. But moe believed curly was in a better place as Curly got his personal life back together after several failed marriages and Curly drank like a fish at bars. He wasn’t great physically either but his final marriage finally got his life back on track as he had kids to look after. It was very rough during his time as a stooge but Curly at least found something worth looking for.

For about 50 years, going to the movies meant, cartoons or other light entertainment like the Three Stooges, plus news, plus a movie, and also a second movie. People would make a day out of it. This is when the Three Stooges had their heyday making short films or "shorts" just like this one from the 30s to the late 50s.
Starting around the 60s this became less and less common as people got enough entertainment and news from television.
The Stooges were really big in the 30s and 40s but when TV came out they started broadcasting all their shorts as half hour TV shows and a whole new generation of people (mostly kids) discovered them and fell in love. They continued to do shows, and new shorts, and some movies and were still working on projects until Moe and Larry died a few months apart in 1975.
Moe, Curly (not seen here) and Shemp were all real life brothers. I personally think that Curly is the funniest of the stooges and you should try to catch a short with him in it.

You have to see Abbott and Costello doing Who's on First. You will LOVE it!
BTW, I don't know the 3rd guy here. When I was growing up in the 1950s, it was Moe and Larry, like here but the third was Curly who didn't speak. Look for one of those. Since I am not skilled on here, maybe someone else can fill in the blanks for you. Still feeling joy for you about your precious son, Santiago. ❤❤❤

The third guy was Shemp, who was a brother of Moe and Curly. In the 1940's, Curly suffered a series of strokes and was unable to perform so Shemp replaced him. Curly did speak in the earlier movies.

I'm not a big fan, but I've seen a few Three Stooges films. It struck me at 10:11 that all three of them are not very tall. I looked on IMDB and found that it reports Moe's height as 5' 3.5" or 161 cm.

They were quite famous. Moe and Larry were in nearly 200 Three Stooges short movies. The third stooge changed over time. In this case it was Moe's brother Shemp. In the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, these were shown in movie theaters before the full-length feature movie, and it wasn't necessarily kids watching them. Having a short movie before the main one became less common later, and these older movies were shown on TV at times when mostly kids were watching. Their contracts didn't provide residuals, so the actors got no money from their old movies being on TV.

There was a novelty song that was popular for a short time in the 1980s called The Curly Shuffle, after Moe's brother Curly, who was the third Stooge in their earlier movies. ua-cam.com/video/FKAfXdb5LsA/v-deo.html

Their slapstick comedy was popular for much of my youth, but was a bit too physical and too stupid to hold my attention for very long at a time. IMO the brand of humor was not necessarily aimed at children, and they deserve accolades for sheer audacity! They became icons of the Saturday movie theatre shorts, and later on TV.
