After the tragic explosion in Beirut on the 4th of August 2020, hundreds of people lost their lives, and thousands lost their homes. The ruling party promised justice very shortly after the tragedy. However, a whole year later, the Lebanese people still haven't gotten any answers. Ever since the catastrophe, Lebanon's bad situation promptly got worse.
I'm known for my love for joyful and uplifting EDM, but I took a different turn for Survivor, leaning towards hip-hop. This collaboration with Antoine Berberi represents the struggle of the Lebanese people.
Survivor comes right from the heart. It's what everyone's feeling. Living in Lebanon right now means that you have to be in a constant state of survival, and it's exhausting, especially if you're young and you're just about to start building a life for yourself.
The creative process behind Survivor was quite a painful one. We had to relive the whole experience to recreate it faithfully. Many of my rapper friends found it quite hard to write about the tragedy. And, of course, we had to include some of the empty promises that the politicians shamelessly made last year. They all knew, and they're all guilty.
