    Thank you for an informative video! Did you know that A. konjac tubers are both a nutriceutical for weight loss and a traditional Asian food! They are usually made into bland tasting noodles for stir fry. I’ve eaten them and they are good. The tubers must be thoroughly cooked to neutralize the oxalate crystals. Other edibles aroids like Taro must be processed as well.

      @@phanivarma4382 I think so. It goes dormant from October to March approx, then you put the bulbs in soil and water...

    Yesterday I casually walked into a field of these in a forest of tropical Sri Lanka. Took myself one big bulb and two tiny ones. Excited!

      Awesome! I've read that they need to be at least 9 inches diameter but I don't think it's a hard rule. Harvested this one and it was 6-7", I think it might put up a bloom. Best of luck with it, they are such a thrill because the tuber grows massively each season with proper care.

    "Actually smelling bad" It doesn't really smell "bad". It's definitely one of the rotting corpse compounds, but there is a sweetness to it. At first you might think there is a dead rat around, but then realise it's not an unpleasant smell, and remember that you have it under your kitchen window ;)

    I’ve just got a baby bulbifer and konjac and just wondering what dormancy should look like? The leaves have rapidly yellowed all over, what should I do?

    • @creeksideplants7025
      @creeksideplants7025  3 роки тому

      Sorry it took me a bit to get back to ya. If you haven't found the answer yet, that sounds just like what they do when going dormant. It happens all at once, and it's good to immediately start withholding water and letting it go bone dry.

    Did the mom not like it because of it's name, or because of the stink? Does it really stink that much? I got one yesterday from an organic farm where psychiatric patients grow plants (such a nice idea of therapy and returning back to society). Anyway, I grow mine inside since I live in a cold climate, but have grow lights, warmth and a humidifier. I have lots of plants. I hope I can bear the stink or I'll just move it to another room for 2 days. :P

      Yes, I live in a 9b zone and mine has done well. I bring the dormant corms (bulbs) indoors to store during winter so they don't get stressed from the cold.

      I've been growing them for over 30 years in Minnesota. To grow, plant in sheltered, partly shaded area. After frost hits a couple nights, the leaf and stem will start wilting. Cut it off a couple inches above ground, and dig carefully. There may be more baby corms. trim the stem after it dies completely. Keep in dark cool area but not cold, inside a black garbage bag is good, or a small tote. In the spring, it will start a little pink bud and then can be replanted outside, either in a pot or the ground. I've actually gotten mine acclimated slowly to Minnesota zone 3/4, alongside my house along the furnace room wall, so I'm able to leave them in ground and get blooms and new plants all the time. But, don't try this with your main bulb, or all of your small ones. get a good supply going first. This took many tries and decades.
