I might be misremembering something from the Tales of Xadia book, but I think it did imply that Katolis was built after the humans were cast out to the west. I remember reading about how there was a lot of war and fighting over who would have control over the best lands and resources, and how Katolis and Duren were built over the most desirable pieces of land due to having the most fertile soils and forgiving climates. Hopefully the crew gets to release a story about the Mage Wars one day, since they’ve said they’d love to do a book or mini series detailing it. If it’s a mini series, I could imagine a really cool framing device of having Viren telling this story to his children, as he would try to frame it as another tale of how humanity rose and prospered despite the elves and dragons’ attempts to hold them back. Kind of like that early scene described in the art book where he tells his children about the origins of dark magic.
I think that's a fair assumption, It does say that they were kicked out of their ancestral land and struggled to survive and humanity started to tear itself apart as they built new civilizations.
21:05 Also how the illustration shows dark magic tendrils coming out of Harrow’s hand, making it seem like Harrow was the dark mage who cast the spell instead of only throwing the spear after Viren enchanted it. Also this does bring up something I’ve been wondering about since season 3. Why didn’t Zubeia target Viren instead of Ezran when she sent the assassins after them? They know dark magic was used to kill Avizandum, so why not target the king and the mage who killed him and the egg instead of a child who had nothing to do with it? I get the symbolism in killing the king and his only heir, but for Xadia to ignore Viren’s role and place all the blame for this on Harrow is weird. Especially with how much they hate dark magic. You’d think Viren in the first episode would at least be thinking, “They’re coming for me too, are they? Better convince Harrow that we should grab our kids and all hide at the Banther Lodge!”
it is strange that they ignore Viren's role as a mage in the beginning. The only explanation I can think of for this is that they generalize dark mages and humans. The king killed Avizandum, therefore the king must be a dark mage. I'm confused about how they know of the event anyway since the dragonguard was either trapped in coins or they ran away... I guess they would have recognized the spear as Katolian weaponry and simply drew conclusions from there... LOL! But Zubeia does have some questions to answer. It seems season 7 will be Ezran heavy so hopefully we'll get a bit more on his lingering feelings on those events and the burning of Katolis. Also, I never actually thought about the fact that Viren feels no threat for himself in episode 1, good point!
Idk why (like it's very obviously not true) but I keep thinking Luna Tenebris was before Sol Regem which obviously makes no sense with even just a basic understanding of the timeline. I think it might be because before season 4 I didn't know Luna Tenebris existed (I'm not sure if it was in the lore before season 4 or not) so I thought it went from SolRegem straight into Avizandum. So when Luna Tenebris was introduced in 4x2 or 3 I just placed that out of the way of the rest of the lore in my mind which would be before everything. So yeah I'm just kinda dumb

The filmmakers said that they have interest in telling about the Mage Wars in future graphic novels.
I think that the Novablade is hidden in the Spinning Sea, but that is a guess.

14:50 wasn't Katolis founded by the Orphan Queen since she was it's first ruler?
