Honestly, I think just hiding the chat on adventure/puzzle streams is a good idea. Like Ian said, some people just don't understand "no hints" no matter how many times it is said, and Ian's habit of asking himself questions while he's working is easy to misinterpret. It's a bit less fun for those of us who like to chat, but this no hints problem has been plaguing us for a while. I say give it a shot and see if it helps.
To be completely honest… His attitude is more of a buzz killer than the chat saying 0 is a digit, which isn’t a hint or spoiler, it’s just an obvious fact of reality that the game expects any human alive to know. If he doesn’t want anyone to say anything, hide chat. It’s more annoying to me that he gets angry at his own fans for participating in the chat while he leaves it unhidden with no banner warning.
I like the jokes on the book names. "Macroeconomics in French Cinema" by Baron Bulmarket ("bear and bull market") "Science Can Be Fun (though odds are you'll find this book exceedingly tedious)" by Dr. D. Troit ("Detroit", not sure of the relation there) "The Human Brain and its Untapped Psychic Potential" by C. Ree Bralcortex ("cerebral cortex" or the part of the brain that deals with sensation, memory, etc.) "America: Land of Adventure" by Lance Hathaway (not sure here; maybe since the book shows half of America it's "lands halfway"?) I love little jokes like that. Always fun to notice.
I hate when chat tries “helping” during the Nance streams, I remember during the Labyrinth of Lies playthrough someone was like: “oh we just don’t want to see you struggle.” But really they just don’t want to wait for the puzzle to be solved. I think Ian actually tried putting “no hints/spoilers” in the title once and it still didn’t stop the chat from doing it. It can really make the stream turn sour when it’s a constant occurrence.
Ok, 1/3 of the way in, and favorite part so far: the "moo" directly after "MMMm what a hamburger!" Edit: Ok, I'm 3/4 through--it's the "moo" after "Drop in anytime." That's the one that really got me.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate these streams. You are really helping me through a rough depressive episode and I’m eternally grateful, thank you
From 3:08:47-3:08:50, that was such perfect timing! I laughed so hard when that happened! And with the start of a Nancy Drew game comes the accidental hints and guesses. I don't think we've been spoiled on anything too important, but it is curious how it keeps happening and its always a constant occurrence. I wish there was something that could be done without being too strict or make people feel uncomfortable. I'm glad that Ian is trying to being more chill about it and that helps. I guess you gotta think of it this way; imagine you're Ian trying to solve a puzzle and you have someone looking over your shoulder and tells you the answer outright. You'd be annoyed if it happened to you. That's how I put it into perspective.
I agree with you and I think that makes sense on Ian's side, but I also think that when Ian thinks aloud that OF COURSE chat is going to respond with answers. I like Ian a lot but I also think it's unfair to be upset with chat when he literally asks a question and they answer it. It's literally asking for hints to happen
Its very frustrating watching people give hints or explain a puzzle in the chat when Ian is so very clear about it. I recognize some of the usernames from earlier in the stream, so they should know by now to quit spoiling things. I wouldnt blame Ian for hiding the chat in future streams. Though, I feel like an on screen "no hints!" would at least prevent new comers from jumping in and trying to help. I know that wouldnt stop everyone, cause nothing will, though
I totally understand the feeling about playing with pen and paper and writing notes down. I have actual notebooks for gaming, with chapters dedicated to the various games I play, and a bunch of notes in there.
I love this Nancy Drew game, its one of my fav Nance games but I hold my tongue because figuring out the puzzles is one of the best parts of these games. I hope Ian continues to play!
A BrutalMoose guide to MST3K would be amazing! As someone who has written a watching-guide to both House M.D. and the Godzilla movies, I know it's difficult but rewarding.
if you’re ever looking for recs for another nance game (my favorite streams btw!) i think you would really enjoy the haunted carousel. the whole thing takes place in a run down theme park, and to my memory it had a lot of vibes ™-between the park itself, the hotel nance stays at, and the old style computer it has a lot of nostalgia power for me. there’s even an arcade!!! it was the very first one i ever played, and it totally got me hooked. i don’t remember any tasks that were too tedious (looking at you, ghost bugs) and if there were any the atmosphere was way cooler in the first place than the woods. anyway, thanks for these vods, it’s always a really nice way to get to look back on these games i enjoyed so much in my childhood 💜
Message: I love the chill atmosphere of your streams. Ian 5 seconds later: WOAH!! Wait... I DON'T GET TO KNOW WHO THE FUCK THIS CAME FROM?!? Made me laugh so hard. Never change, Ian. Never change.
I'm surprised that Ian doesn't have any mods at this point, it's probably the easiest way to filter out people spoiling or helping without hiding the chat. It alleviates the burden on Ian for having to constantly remind people of no spoilers, especially those who hop in and out of the streams, or those who are new too. And if they don't listen, they can put chat into emote only mode, or sub only mode so people can chill out and stop doing the bad. Not to mention, him asking questions aloud to himself, implores the chat to answer them, although he never asks for help.
Ian just hide the chat. People will always participate. Be it bc they don’t know the rule, have poor impulse control, or they intentionally want to troll. Most of the time it’s fans who don’t see things like saying “0 is a digit” a hint and are just participating, and getting annoyed with them ruins the mood for you AND your fans. Just hide the chat.
Re: Screensavers Man, I remember downloading some Christmas and Halloween themed screensavers that I thought were so badass. Lowkey experiencing that nostalgia thru WallpaperEngine nowadays.
Oh yeah! Hiding the chat would probably be the best thing for puzzle/story games or smth along those lines. Could you hide it during that time for the vod, too? At least when you have it hidden on your end, or would that be too much work?
3:09:00 I just imagine Nance just gets that text and then runs around the whole building for half an hour muttering to herself, "Gotta find the president. Who is the president? I want that book." lol
I understand why ppl get so confused with the no hints, aside from just naturally wanting to help when u r thinking aloud if they are new to the stream and dont know abt ur preferences, it can be confusing switching between like you trying to remember the names for each girl and then jumping into a puzzle the ip puzzle right after like I can tell the change in your tone and get that bc it's not a puzzle ur just trying to remember their names but it can be unclear for many so it tends to not be clear when you're thinking outloud and when you're actually asking
Fun fact: the Mel plagiarism storyline is completely optional. You don't have to figure out who plagiarized her paper in order to beat the game. You can totally ignore the whole soggy mess.
I’m almost 30 too. Haha I agree that one girl did look like she’s 30. Also I remember in this game, I did spend some time just roaming around because I couldn’t figure out what to do. 😂😂 that usually happens in most of the ND games
I know streamers who have a secret code for if they want help from chat. They have a phrase they'll say so that chat knows they want help and aren't just thinking out loud. They'll say something like "Dear chat", "Help please", "Sherbet lemon", etc. but Moose doesn't want help so i don't know if that would help at all.
Oh my gosh, when you asked if teenage girls talk about Mr. Harris it triggered a forgotten memory. In my senior year of high school (circa 2004) we had a history teacher Mr. Harris and we had a newer teacher was Ms. Larson who was (**stage whisper** ) ReCeNtLy DiVoRcEd (it was a Catholic all girls school) and the rumor was they were having some kind of affair but I really don't know if there was any truth to it.
I'm conflicted on what Nance game i want ian to play next. On one hand i want him to play ones i've never played before so its a new experience to watch. But on the other I'm excited to see him play my favorites in the series
I feel like a ton of people are basically fully blaming chat for giving out hints when he says things that can conflict with that, when he asks himself questions out loud or something like that. I get its annoying for him to see people spamming hints and what not, at the same time it gets conflicting to know what he wants when he basically says or implies he wants help from someone ( even if it's asking himself ), if people can't tell if you're asking yourself a question or not then they're going to say something since, they didn't know you were asking yourself. Sometimes these streams get annoying terribly especially with the inconsistency of him asking himself things compared to asking for serious help from chat, the malice/angry/annoyed/aggressive tones Ian goes through, or even the chat just being spoil fairy's for most of it, or the people in chat get salty with him or whoever. It's not just chats fault in that matter, it's pretty equal blame honestly, he can contradict himself at times or gets confusing on who he's speaking to, the comments in his chats are sometimes just spoilers just for the sake of it. He can hide the chat for himself but, I think that wouldn't be quite fair to everyone else who's just trying to talk or make memes about the current moments, all I could say is he has a second monitor to see the chat, he could also get mods for the chat to remove spoil fairy's when they strike, or hell he could just ignore those comments that are blatantly spoiling how to do things or the certain details in the game he's playing and take it as lies they're stating and move on. It's annoying to get spoilers or people trying to rush the puzzle so they don't have to suffer through it ( of course they can just leave the stream/video if they're not wanting to see someone struggle to finish a puzzle for several minutes ) but, it's also annoying to hear the streamer basically feed into the spoilers game is to be recognized as the spoiler which in return gets more people to spoil the fun. This is an older video, so how he did things then are different than it is now but, I sadly still see the same errors being made on both sides ( not as bad as this video ) but, there are still issues and that's why I don't watch these streams much, it's aggravating to watch them when both sides of the court is being toxic and turning things into a passive aggressive moment or just sour moments. I like to watch Moose don't get me wrong, I just believe that he needs to ignore people spoiling if there is no way to prevent it at this rate since, clearly people see it's upsetting him and anyone else watching so it's something they think they should do since, its clearly upsetting at least one person to see someone spoil the fun.
I really don’t see the conflict you mentioned. If someone repeatedly says “no hints”, that should be taken as a hard and fast rule. Yes, he asks himself questions but 1) some people think best out loud and 2) it would be a very boring stream if he was just silently analyzing screens to solve the puzzles. I don’t think him asking himself a question aloud invites chat to answer it. As for ignoring chat, I’m kind of mixed about that. Ian seems to want to engage with chat, so I’m not sure ignoring it is something he’s comfortable with just because he likes checking in and thanking people and whatnot. He’s got too many Texas manners to deal with an annoying chat.
I don’t understand how people don’t understand not to give hints. They’ve obviously watched the other parts. It’s not hard to NOT type things like that.

Yeah the chat needs mods for this purpose it's the only way to save chat for these videos
Agreed, the chat just seems like a source of stress at this point regarding spoilers, get rid of that shiz so you can have some fun.
if he’s not going to budge on even *guesses,* yeah, chat should be gone. Or even pointing him to in-game instructions that he missed.
@@Romanticoutlaw why should he budge? It's his stream, he's the one playing the game, and we all watch him for his personality.
To be completely honest… His attitude is more of a buzz killer than the chat saying 0 is a digit, which isn’t a hint or spoiler, it’s just an obvious fact of reality that the game expects any human alive to know. An unlocked door :
Nance : ⚠️!?!😲!?!⚠️
I’ve never seen adventure games with pvp before, but Ian vs chat is basically that. Good lord y’all let the man play the game in peace
tbh That's why I stopped streaming and just starting recording and posting my videos on UA-cam
Ian should disable chat on games like these imo
I like the jokes on the book names.
"Macroeconomics in French Cinema" by Baron Bulmarket ("bear and bull market")

I love little jokes like that. Always fun to notice.
Im sorry but I about died when THE ENTIRE CHAT was filled with "0 is a digit!!!!!-:0".
I lost my mind when the chat kept dunking on Rachel lol
Yay thanks for playing more Nance.
Say it with me now: "She did it"

seeing him finish the piano puzzle was so satisfying im genuinely feeling sm joy
I love that a Pennvllyvn from Curse of Blackmoor Manor went to Waverly Academy
I think hiding chat during games you don't want hints in is a great idea.
The chat is so infuriating on these Nancy drew videos. Takes all the fun out of it
I totally understand the feeling about playing with pen and paper and writing notes down. I have actual notebooks for gaming, with chapters dedicated to the various games I play, and a bunch of notes in there.
Internally screaming that he's gone outside twice and hasn't noticed that he can go to the side of the building XD
Omg Ian saying YOU DO IT THEN put words to my whole mood at work today. I work with so many Rachels.
I love this Nancy Drew game, its one of my fav Nance games but I hold my tongue because figuring out the puzzles is one of the best parts of these games. I hope Ian continues to play!
IAN, YOUR ANIMATED PRESHOW BACKGROUND!! I'M OBSESSED!! It's so brilliant and I love watching all the little details!

Ya hiding the chat would be a hella good idea to stop unwanted hints 😂
"oh my god I'm almost 30"
I really felt that lmfao
iAN's bagel toasting skills are really put to the test in this stream...

He has two. They frequently comment not to spoil or hint but Ian only wants spamming users blocked
Though emote only mode is a GREAT idea
Im so happy you’re playing more Nancy Drew! Love these streams 💕
You are my bedtime routine. I drift off to sleep listening to you. You are amazing! Hugs for MJ. Much love from Ohio. ❤🌈 😜
I do think it's super funny he pulled the fire alarm twice and thought nothing would happen
I feel kinda bad for the person who accidentally gave a hint about middle C, tried to retract it, but then got yelled at anyway :/
This whole vid was a huge negative vibe
I just finished watching part one last night and was hoping part two would be up soon!
How 'bout that. This door's not locked!

Man, I remember downloading some Christmas and Halloween themed screensavers that I thought were so badass. Lowkey experiencing that nostalgia thru WallpaperEngine nowadays.
Oh man makes me remember the haunted house one with bats. Those were the days.
Snack bar mini-game kind of reminds me of Cook, Serve, Delicious!
Ned was savage in that phone call
I'm so glad I didn't catch this live🤣 the entire time I'd be telling everyone to stop giving hints. No means no, y'all 😅
Ian: I dont want help

Fun fact: the Mel plagiarism storyline is completely optional. You don't have to figure out who plagiarized her paper in order to beat the game. You can totally ignore the whole soggy mess.
Absolutely do Myst or Riven, Moose! that would be amazing!
Or even better, there's an awesome puzzle game called Shiver. You'd love it!
Niice I actually was able to join this one live for a bit
Man, that piano puzzle was such bullshit, hate it when games punish you for figuring things out on your own.
I'm so here for them tomato-cheese sandwiches
I’m almost 30 too. Haha I agree that one girl did look like she’s 30. Also I remember in this game, I did spend some time just roaming around because I couldn’t figure out what to do. 😂😂 that usually happens in most of the ND games
Toasted tomato sandwich sounds like my worst nightmare

I'd love to see Ian play Nancy Drew: Shadow at the Water's Edge. I mean...it has robot cats AND sudoku puzzles what more do ya need?
Not sure I'll ever be over Rachel saying you can't do the website your way cause that would be cheating
It’s so funny that you can be expelled for not making snacks fast enough.
looking at the comments is giving me a strong feeling I might want to skip this one 😬

I wonder which girl ordered the 3-slices-of-tomato sandwich. XD I guess you'd call that a TTT?
Damn. I’m a big fan but the attitude killed it for me.
