    My grandfather had three maestros when he was alive. He had two red ones and the silver one. I remember the last maestro he had was back in around 1989 it was a red Mayfair and was a very nice car. I am registered blind but I have got a little bit of vision.
    I have always loved cars even as a child and have had great interest in them. Thank you for all these videos you provide and I love the way that you talk your way through things. It is meaningful to someone like me and brings back great memories.

      Well sir, I actually have a review of a Maestro Mayfair on the No Budget Reviews playlist! Same collection as this one, but filmed a couple of months later. It is also a red one, but two tone. I think that we are on 920 videos on the channel now, so there are plenty of others for you to watch if you like....

    Another great trip down memory lane. I had a 1.6 back around '97 or '98 in the same colour as the 1.3 you drove (the red and grey one). I remember not being too impressed with the automatic choke, so I converted it to a manual choke which was a popular mod at the time (a much better option). This was at a time when I enjoyed getting my hands dirty, and these were nice cars to work on. Did a cam belt change and rear wheel bearing replacement on the one I had, and actually enjoyed keeping the rear wheel arch flanges pristine on a regular routine basis, with paint and a little filler. Oh and of course, the inevitable repairs to the plastic rear bumper which I became quite good at (courtesy of the wife's reversing skills). It's strange to think they are now so rare and difficult to find, but at least I had some fun at the time. A really nice drive they were too, and very comfortable and stable.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  2 роки тому +1

      That is right, the automatic choke was a bit rubbish. It was a bit like the power steering on some of these, on my grandfather's 1.6 Mayfair, it broke, and he decided not to try and reinstate it. The plastic bumpers did get a bit rubbish at times on some Maestros, as they were quite an innovative thing when the car came out.
      Much nicer to drive than a Mark III Escort, and more spacious too.

    I always thought the Advantage versions of the Metro, Maestro and Montego looked good with the white wheels, particularly in cherry red.
    They were quite popular back in the day and it’s a shame that there are only 2 Maestro Advantage still on the road.
    At least the example you reviewed is well cared for and Somerset registered I note. Both my wife and myself are originally from Somerset.

      Yes, low secondhand values and the usual rust have killed off so many Maestros over the last three decades. The Metro and Montego Advantages are also around in very tiny numbers, so I gather! Yes, this Maestro came from a dealership in Chard.

    MR Lloyd secretly saying inside "We don't do poverty spec on this channel" great review fantastic colour. I wish this car was fully loaded it would be something rather special and unique to say the least. Such a shame the Vanden Plas discontinued.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting

      Yes sir, my name is not Ian Seabrook, unless we are doing Accidental HubNut Rip-Off Edition! He loves poverty specification, we prefer a bit of luxury on this channel.... The Advantage is still a lovely looking car, but it is not as well specified as you would imagine.

    You are getting a lot of Austin/Rover Group cars. It's nice to see the comparison between different trim and generation of cars.
    Love those alloys and body kit. Used to like how manufacturers would throw loads of extra bits on older designs to shift stock.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, we now appreciate the different variants of the Maestro and the fact that they did produce some rather attractive ones! Certain this special edition was produced to shift some Maestros....

    Another great review! You mentioned about the different okie filler cap on the advantage, I believe this was to eliminate the issue of oil emulsification in the separate pipe that the earlier models suffered ….
    I had Montego with such an issue and a resolution was in cold weather to remove the grille and cover inside with tinfoil to stop cold air flow making the oil emulsify !

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you ever so much indeed! More Austin Rover content coming up next week, of course. That would make sense about the redesigned oil filler cap, oil emulsification is not good!

    Ah another miracle maestro. I thought the advantage specs cars had decent spec. But these were a special edition poverty specs. I'd of hoped for some front electric windows by this point. I do love the BRG and white wheels. Another stellar review.

  • @alansimpson835
    @alansimpson835 3 роки тому

    I really like these. I get the impression that they'd upped the quality by this point so it seemed quite well screwed together. That bold colour and white alloy wheel combo looked the part too. It does look smart in BRG. I think the Cherry Red suits the Metro better.
    Great to see it in the hands of an enthusiast too.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 роки тому

      Yes, I think the later ones were probably a bit better made, although that later dashboard was still prone to cracks and rattles! Looks lovely on the outside, shame that there wasn't really any equipment inside...

    Only 2 left??!! A shame, people did not appreciate this vehicle, or think it would be valuable, disposable like everything else, an absolute crime !
