In my recent south India trip, i filled my tank in pune after that on my way to ooty i filled up again in mysoor.. the total tank to tank mileage i got for my south India return trip is of 19.8kmpl.. and i think its good mileage for 183bhp car.. For automatic transmission you will get less mileage..
As an auto enthusiast and an engineering student, I can say that Mahindra XUV700 "Diesel" variant won not only because it has more torque 450Nm@1750-2800rpm but it also has more power at lower rpm 182.38bhp@3500rpm where as in Mahindra XUV700 "Petrol" varient it has less torque 380nm@1750-3000rpm and has more power but the power comes at higher rpm 197.13bhp@5000rpm, So I guess the power at lower rpm also played a major role in it.

I have diesel xuv700 AT , i defeated polo 1.0 manual which defeated xuv700 petrol. After that race i came to conclusion that diesel is more faster also it feels. Its 70nm of torque over 15bhp , so definitely it will win

That's because Mahindra has gone for a unique approach with a diesel-like petrol engine by messing with bore diameter and stroke length. They went for a petrol engine that gave diesel like feel by reducing the bore diameter and increasing the stroke length. Thus they compromised a little on high revs but gave a very torquey petrol engine that's a really fun experience to drive. Like the perfect balance between torque of the diesel and high end of a petrol. Was very fun to drive. I think they did this because they focus on SUVs more as a brand and wanted to maintain good levels of torque even in their petrols

In a realistic scenario i think acceleration is what matters the most rather than achieving the top speed of a car. In that case diesel is a win win situation as diesel is torquey, fuel efficient along with a lower price a litre compared to petrol, driveable and significantly powerful.

This isn't a new fact, Diesel Torque isn't something to underestimate. For a Petrol engine to create the same, has to burn a lot more petrol. My 2008 Jaguar X-Type 2.0 litre 4-cylinder Turbo-Diesel makes more torque than it's 3.0 litre V6 petrol version. An ECU remap gives that 2.0 litre Diesel engine around 400nm of torque which the V6 still does not manage to create.
😮 Do it again with Speed 97 or Power 99 high octane petrol and show us if that makes a difference than regular E10 petrol to the cars performance. I think it will. N.B Was on Delhi expressway nearing double century on a 1.8 N.A petrol and an Xuv5OO went past smokin 😅
Did you'll turn the traction control off during take off in the XUV 700 Petrol. And, you can make up for the lack of drive modes in the petrol engine by just shifting it to Manual mode. It gives a better launch and holds the gear longer giving maximum boost. You should try that next time.
