Books, movies, TV shows, video games… I should do this with all my media. It’s so easy to accumulate a vast library of stuff that never gets the attention it deserves.
I need to do this. I ended up cutting back on book buying by using my library, but then I've found myself completely ignoring my home library in favour of the public library
@SlowlyGoes I have been doing the same thing as well. I have checked out some really good books from the library recently, but I really need to focus on the books I own.
It’s going to take me a loooong time for me. I have approximately 3000 books (paper and Kindle) and have only read about 2,000. I’m 73 so I have to hurry up.
I'm doing a no-buy November--not buying ANYTHING that's not absolutely necessary (like groceries), and will be doing this challenge in some form. I might do a number of months, which I did last year and it worked well for me. I'm moving in May, so maybe I'll make it "no new books until after I move". I also want to slow down a bit with my reading and write more book reviews.
Hey Olly, definitely taking part! Last year I did the bronze tier of 25 books and that was comfortable for me so will do the same again. Thanks for encouraging readers to read what they own!
I often take part, but I don't think ever successfully! Haha, I will most probably try again this year. It really does make you take a proper look at what you own.
I just finished my 75 books challenge from last year!! Whoop, whoop. Had a bit similar feelings to the ones you described in your video 4 months ago. With all kinds of extra caveats it took ages and dragged towards the end. But lots of valuable insights gained, so thank you for the initiative! Now one month break and then I will do a much smaller 25 book version :-D
I've started early this round after getting back with suitcases full of books from a romance convention in September, currently on book 21. It's the 2nd time I do the challenge, the concept worked very well for me the first time. I plan for 50 and hope to prolong to 75 😅
My physical tbr is out of control so I’ll be joining you this year. Thrift stores have me in a chokehold 😂 I’ll aim to read 75 from my stash and the only books I plan to buy are from Robin Hobb’s The Realm of the Elderlings series.
Love your channel! I am excited to participate in my first read what you own challenge. I own a lot of books that I need to read, so I am planning on doing the 100 book platinum tier (with a heavy emphasis of DNFing/unhauling any books I am not enjoying).
Yay! Count me in... this sounds like the perfect challenge for me, I definitely need to commit to finish reading what I own before I buy.. thanks so much for doing this, looking forward to seeing how we all go! Happy reading! 😃📚
I had to think about this. I have 64 unread physical books, and I don't want to get that number to 0 but I do want to reduce it. So I'm going for Bronze+, at 30 books. Thanks for doing this, it's fun to be part of a bigger group like this.
Hi! I have never taken part in this challenge but it is coming to me at a perfect time! I really need to read more from my shelves...I'm starting to get overwhelmed when looking at them! They are so full of great titles that I have not read yet! I will be participating! Thank you for doing this!
I'm going to try this project seriously this year. I think I'll start with a number that's manageable--that balances my need to read stuff sitting on my shelves and my impulses to buy more books. Probably 20 or 25.
I tried this challenge last year. I gave myself a pass to buy 2 books on Independent Book Store day, and just kept shopping. I'm trying again this year, I started on October 1st.
This is my first year of the challenge. What a great idea! Is there a hashtag so I can watch other video content? I'm going for Silver (50 books), focusing on Audible and Kindle backlog. Any gifts do not count toward that total.
Last year I did 65 books- many were DNFs but at least I got them off the Kindle and they were given a chance. Feels much better to have a smaller number of books now.
Hi Ollie. Yes, I will be participating. I'm going for 100 physical. I would like to do an additional 50 to clean out my Kindle, Audible, and Chirp books.
I'm in a real-life book club and will buy/borrow the books for that (ideally with gift vouchers), but otherwise I'm on board. I will also try give as many books away as I can as soon as I've read them.
I'm happy to say, I don't have many books I bought a while ago that I haven't read yet, but there are 6 books that have been waiting which should be absolutely manageable. 6 books that have been waiting for a few years, and otherwise 2 that are rather recent gifts which I'm adding for fun. 😂 Maybe this will push me, because there is literally no reason why I haven't knocked them out yet.
I'm officially halfway through my second round and I'm enjoying it much more this time having preordered all my most anticipated. They were incorporated into my totals so they totally count! 😂
Well I jumped the gun and decided to start on Oct 19 for some odd reason. I guess I had to dance to the beat of my own. Looking forward to what I can accomplish.
I recently started in on The Complete Fiction of H P Lovecraft. I've read the odd story here and there over the years but I want to get through the whole thing in one go..
I think I'll participate in the 25 book level this year. I've never participated before. It should be easy enough to do since I'm broke anyway. I'm keeping my Kindle Unlimited subscription, though, but they won't count towards my 25 book goal.
I wish I could do this without been tempted and purchasing new books.I’ve loads on my e-readers which I’ve bought and not read, yet I still keep buying books 😂
I have so many books that I own and need to read. It's so difficult to not get more though! Are book hauls considered an addiction? 😆 I'm going to set a goal for myself that I can't purchase a book until I've read at least 10 that I own first. But along with this I'll be doing the Platinum Tier. I need to break through my hoard!
I have already set my challenge. Since I have won 175+ ebooks from Goodreads this year I'm saying 150 books from that list. I'm sure I will read other books but they won't count towards my goal. I'm also giving myself 10 months to finish my goal.
@@bluecannibaleyes they are all on kindle and I don't enter any giveaway that has more than 2000 entries. I only enter giveaways that expire that day as well.
It always drives me a bit crazy how many BookTubers use the challenge to go out and buy a boatload of new books before the challenge begins. I heartily approve of the basic concept, however, and am even taking it a step further in my own life. Video to come ...
I'm going to give it a try. Just finished my Goodreads pledge of 35 books for the year (don't judge - I work 2 jobs, 64 hours a week - doing my best). The flesh is weak, so I'm going to pledge 25 books without buying any, but try to hold on longer. Maybe if I just put them in the shopping cart and stare at them lovingly, but avoid the "proceed to checkout" button? I'll try!!!
64 hours a week! Ouch! When I did it the first year I kept a list of all the books I'd been tempted to buy. At the end I went through it and bought a few, but found that a lot of them I was no longer that bothered by
This is how I’m going to approach the challenge. I’m setting myself the 25 books but if I find myself going through them quickly and want more of a challenge I might increase it to 30 or even aim for the 50. Also no judgement on the Goodreads goal. I too set it at 35 (even though this year I have exceeded that). It used to be only 30 but I increased it after I realised I could actually comfortably finish approx 35 books In a year after I did the year long Popsugar Reading Challenge which is 50 books/prompts. I did that in 2021, but did not get to the 50. I also don’t have two jobs with that that many hours, I’m just a slow reader.
Okay, so... I only have unread physical books, and I don't want to lose my Kindle reading streak, so can I re-buy those books as ePub and it still count? 🤣
I'll try with 50. I do read 100+ in a year ut since I am a slow reader then I would be able to buy a book just once a year. So 50 is more realistic with the buying ban.
After last year’s 100 which I finished mid Feb, I had a bright idea. I would take the number of physical books brought into the house and deduct the number I actually read and the difference would be the number I have to read for this year’s challenge. I now have to read 120 books for this year’s challenge 🙈. Best laid plans and all that 😂😂
