Exploring Organ Cave in WV

My mom and I explore Organ Cave in West Virginia. Cave was mined for saltpeter by Confederates during the Civil War. Saltpeter is used to make gun powder. It is said that between 70 and 90 percent of the gun powder used in the Civil War by the Confederates was made from saltpeter from this cave. Those are some of the original hoppers (wooden storage bins) from the Civil War era shown.
