    Nice presentation, thank you. I have been using ArchiCAD since version 4.7(!) Still learning..

      Thanks! Glad it was helpful! I actually started on version 11 I think? At the time Archicad was called "Constructor" and had a whole suite of estimating and scheduling tools that broke off into Vico Office. Functionality I've built back into Archicad directly through the CONTRABIM templates! I'm still learning too always more...

    is it possible to edit the roof system once it has been placed using the wizard or do you need to delete and start over?

    If they could make the framing associative to the roof and update if the roof changes that would be great.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  4 роки тому

      Yes that would definitely be ideal! In most cases, it's best to wait to model rafters and framing details until you know the design is pretty much locked in. They you don't risk having to make so many changes later. Thanks for the comment!

    thank you very much i have learnt alot of things from you. i would like to ask you why dont you add purlins on top of Rafters to attach the sheeting later?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  3 роки тому

      Hi Mohamed! Sorry for the delayed reply here. Appreciate the comment and question. So yes! in some cases purlins would be modeled in on top of the rafters. Not in every case, depends on roof system and region. Purlins are a good subject of another video to do, thank you for your question!

    When would you use a truss as opposed to this method in building a roof? Can you combine both?

    Hello, thank you so much for the video, the method works perfektly, but the take off shows not the profil dimensions but the lenth and the high of the profil. Do you have any Idea please? thank you

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Рік тому +1

      Hello, I'd dig into the parameter settings a bit to see if you can find the correct height/width. You may have to look into the object parameters of the framing objects to find them!

    Hi John can do a roof trusses using complex profile

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Рік тому

      Yes you certainly can do it that way! I've done this once maybe a long time ago, but typically I'll either build them from scratch with beams/columns, use the trussmaker, or start with the roof wizard and fill in the truss members as needed. Lots of options!

  • @drexdis

    Hi John, is there a way we can see in schedule the cross section at the end of the rafter or any other element created with roof wizard just like we can see on the beam?
    Thanks

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Рік тому

      I'll play around with this and get back to you. It may be possible but because they are objects and sloping, it may be difficult to get that precise cross section.

    Hey John,
    Thanks for another great Video - I could learn a lot!
    I have one question though:
    How did you get the List of the Roof Maker Elements?
    I couldn't figure out how to add the Elements to the list...

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  4 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for the comment and the question! Each of those roof framing elements is tagged with a cost code, and the cost code is referenced as the criteria on the schedule. That way it'll only list in the schedule the contents set in the criteria. I'll have to do a video on setting up schedules! Its easy if you have a cost coding system to reference. In this case I'm using the CONTRABIM quantity estimating template

      @@CONTRABIM Hi again,
      Thanks for the fast answer!
      I understand.
      What would be interesting in my case, would be the dimensions and the numbers of the elements. So if the costs can be calculated, the length must also be hidden in the program somewhere I guess.
      The lengths would be particularly interesting for my colleauges from the other department. (This is how it works here in Austria...)
      I'm looking forward to the video about setting up schedules!
      Thanks again for your help!
      kind regards,
      Martin

    Would be good if this tool would work for roof trusses too. Do you know any trick with those? The trussmaker is not bad but a bit clunky i found

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there! Thanks for the question. So with the roof wizard, you can create the general 3 sided shape of a typical truss, but without the interior details, meaning the two rafters, and the bottom chord at ceiling level or where it is in elevation. The truss maker can work in some cases, but have you tried the truss objects? This may also help since they have nodes and stretchable points. A lot of different ways to approach trusses, none of them perfect, but if you do a lot of this work perhaps there is a plugin that can make it quicker for you? I'll think about doing another video with alternate methods for trusses...Thanks!

    • @Claudiozee
      @Claudiozee 3 роки тому

      @@CONTRABIM haven't played too much with trusses object, normally use the truss maker.
      Fact is: They are so cheap to make, it's faster for the manufacturer to do it before i finish the model, however the challenge is to achieve something different while using something very common in a different way. A 3D model can help convey that message

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  3 роки тому +1

      @@Claudiozee Definitely. I think getting the overall shape in there is all we really need to do. Depends on the roof line and how long it'll take to model in...

    Could we make steel structure like in this way? which option we should select?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  4 роки тому

      Hi Burak! So the roof wizard objects can be set to any material, so you could assign to a steel material and represent them similar to wood rafters. The objects themselves will act the same, and only are available in rectangular shapes, not complex profiles.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Patrick. The interactive schedule shown is this video is setup based on some property parameters for rough carpentry. It's not actually trusses, but it's a list of the rafters and related framing elements generated with the roof wizard tool. To run a schedule similar to this, set a few criteria parameters that match your objects or trusses, so that they will populate onto the schedule. Easiest one may be layer, material, or property set to something defined for roof framing elements. I'll do another video on interactive schedule listing soon! Thanks
