    I have a few QIC tapes backed up from the that 3070 drive. I managed to repair them and archive them in linux, but I was wondering what the archive menthod is. Seems like they are a bunch of files about 212992 big that "may" be tar.

      I would expect that they are mostly like tar files. Probably in the older v7 format rather than the more common (now) gnu format. Running the linux command 'file' on them will give you a good indication as well as simply trying to untar them

    I wonder if modern applications can be compiled and run on it.

      Yes it is possible to compile and run at least some modern applications on it, however it's probably not surprising to note that it's not trivial either. Not only do you have to compile whole dependency stacks, you have to be very careful with compile options and be prepared to tweak source code. There were several repositories of pre-compiled software for Amix online. I haven't checked if they are still available. It's also interesting to note that you can run software built on other versions of m68k System V UNIX also.
