What EXACTLY is in Uncle Iroh's tea....? Joelle recreates the Avatar live-action cast's dream ATLA universe foods from fire flakes to stewed sea prunes!
Real quality jasmine tea is not made with jasmine buds in the tea water. Its tea that is dried with jasmin flowers next to them so the tea leafs themselfs gets enriched with the jasmin flower taste! Its a delicate and very labor intence proces hence the price. Cheap Jasmine tea has the real jasmin buds in the tea leaf mix to fool people in believing its good! But it will make the tea taste bitter. Also the tempeture of the water is very important, if the tea is set to hot it will also get a bitter taste!! Good luck setting tea❤
Unfortunately it's not that good, imo. Not as an actual cookbook. Not written with good consideration of how people may misunderstand it. The recipes largely take many hours if not days, and some are tasty, but not all. But it's a fun idea book.
@@JosiahMcCarthy that actually makes sense since in the atla universe, there's not much entertainment to go on. People may have had a lot of time to do miscellaneous stuff. I remember the episode on book one where they dump large jars of perfume just to drive off the blind beast of the bounty hunter, then katara waterbends it. In my mind, that could've taken weeks at the minimum to accumulate but I guess they have a lot of time.
The dehydrated and fried Tapioca sheets are called Vadiyalu/papadalu in the part of India I'm from and THEY'RE SOO FRICKIN GOOD WITH PAPPUCHARU(lentil stew kinda). Like they're a munchy side dish along with that!
Omg those fire flakes have a very similar recipe to something we eat in my country. They're called sabudana papad (sabudana being the small tapioca pearls)
Well the atla univers does take a lot of inspiration from real life cultures so I imagine theyd take the same amount of inspiration, or even more, when it came to making foods for the world 🤷🏽♀️
this is what I was going to say he obviously is insanely rich to be able to make it everywhere we see him at the speed we move through the world in avatar, yet all we see him sell is cabbage
Remember the banana soup Anag drank when visiting the air temple and going on a spiritual quest. At first it was disgusting but afterwards he asked for more? I want to know what that taste like 😅
Zuko: Jasmine Tea like 2 minutes or less. Azula: Fire Flakes 12 hours. Lol that’s so in character. I wish the writing was good and played to the actors strengths.
I think if you want to make something like shrimp broth, you use raw shrimps' heads and skins, not the flesh. That way, you can cook it longer to get all the shrimp flavours, but not wasting the flesh, which is delicate.
Jasmine tea is a type of Chinese green tea that has been infused with jasmine flowers. The ingredients typically include the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, water, and sometimes honey or sugar for sweetness. But most importantly, it's the combination of these ingredients that creates such a unique flavor and aroma.
The channel Feast of Fiction did a recipe for fire flakes like 10 years ago which was literally just spicy Frosted Flakes. I still make them to this day it’s so good.
My mom got Jasmine tea when she went to Turkey it was like green tea balls with Jasmine buds in it that unfolded to resemble a flower, it was pretty cool
@@brandonwordmusiche’s right tho they don’t look appetizing lol. I KNOW they taste good cuz I’ve eaten them 800 billion times(literally an Indian snack) but these don’t look good.
I always wondered what those air puffed fruit cakes the airbenders make taste like They must be so fluffy and creamy, WHY do they only use them as prank ammunition they look SO GOOD
I’ve had real artisan jasmine tea before, it definitely had tea leaves in there so I assume it’s probably just very high quality dried jasmine buds mixed with good tea leaves, uncle Iroh would be proud
I always thought fire flakes were just bonito flakes
Because they move and crackle like fire?!
But they wouldn’t be crunchy, right?
Same
I thought fire flakes would be like the 80s candy that sizzles in your mouth.
samee

I’m so sorry but I read your whole comment in Iroh’s voice PFGF
How do we know you're not Uncle Iroh in disguise dear friend?
ok uncle iroh
Thank you! I'm big into tea and was a little shocked at just dumping hot water on jasmine blossoms.😅
Where will we actually be able to drink the original jasmine tea?
Lowkey understand fire flakes being popular in-universe now
Hot, Vegan, Cracklins?? YES, PLEASE 💕
Fr I need to try them
why in my mind fire flakes were just like, flaked chili pepper like i was fully convinced the fire nation was just inhaling jalapenos as a snack
That'd make sense 😂
Same 😭
I figured it would be something pretty simple like that cause it was being sold by vendors at a festival
I thought they were basically hot Cheetos 😅
@@brysonius omg yes,the image of azula just going*rustle rustle cronch* in a strategy meeting is priceless
Zuko: 2 minute peaceful and loving drink
Azula: 12 hour laborious, spicy and complicate dish
Wait... Avatar official cookbook??? Someone better link that!

Just give me one of those cabbages. They’re famous in multiple nations
Better watch out for those cabbage slugs.
There gonna get ruined before you can get a bite

Onion banana soup…
There’s a recipe for it in the official avatar cookbook
It's probably plantain
Those fire flakes sound bomb
Fire flakes, and air nomad fruit pies
Leaves from the vine, falling so slow.
Soldier boy comes marching home.
Rest in peace uncle iroh.
Ok hear me out… the uncooked dough that they eat at the end of Avatar Day
That or just some good ol’ cactus juice
nothin's quenchier
ITS THE QUENCHIEST
the ang actor is still recovering from shaving his hair off
fire flakes fire flakes fire flakes fire flakes
I love that we have at least one canonically vegan character in ATLA, and I'd absolutely trust Aang to recommend me amazing food.
Aang isn't vegan tho, he's vegetarian.
@@adnelg319nah but u know he wouldn’t be okay w the dairy industry or eggs
@@christopherbronson6827 he loves egg custard tho.
@@christopherbronson6827
They didn't have that industry in ATLA the chickens were raised by family's & individual people. He loved egg custard.
@@christopherbronson6827probably not irl, but in the shows universe, he only says hes vegetarian, not vegan.
Am I the only one that wants to try that poor man’s cabbages? 😂😂😂😂
The man who played zuko was actually in my same karate dojo
I never realized the importance of the water temperature when brewing tea! The process of making jasmine tea sounds so intricate and fascinating.
ur were im my last wid
id love to try the stewed sea prunes that they ate when they met back up with katara and sokas dad
Zuko: Jasmine Tea like 2 minutes or less.

Lowkey you should try making “MY CABBAGES!!”
I have a feeling that Iroh's Jasmine tea is just jasmine green tea 😂
My favorite food in avatar is “MY CABAGES”
Uncle Iroh's tea is something magical that we will never know the true taste of
This tapioca pearls trick is just so good I gotta try that
The tea and fire flakes both sound amazing together
Bro the cast really does look like the actors when the avatar and his crew went to go watch their play at the theater
Lol i thought fire flakes would be like the cornflakes chivda that my grandma always makes
"CABBAGES MY CABBAGES OH WHY MY CABBAGES" quote cabbage man
My fav answer was the actor of sokka said "Zuko, I MEAN"
The cakes that the air bender monks made always looked delicious
When he played the voice actor of the guy in blue eye samurai and started talking about honor I was legit like
"Dude someone get my boy his honor 😢"
The Chinese in me was so mad when she made that jasmine tea
Iroh later on uses Avatar Wans teapot to make tea with. It housed the Light spirit Raava.
Those airbender fruit pie's looks great as well
The jasmine tea secretly contained weed buds, that's why Iroh is so chill
The melons at the melon cart
The channel Feast of Fiction did a recipe for fire flakes like 10 years ago which was literally just spicy Frosted Flakes. I still make them to this day it’s so good.
The Avatar cookbook has some insane prep times for some stuff, but it's actually quite worth it
For anyone that doesn't know, the Avatar TLA cookbook is *really* good, probably the best I've seen. Would highly recommend it
All the foods look so delicious. You did a awesome job😊
THE ACTOR FOR AZULA IS SO PRETTY
You have some serious talent!
My mom got Jasmine tea when she went to Turkey it was like green tea balls with Jasmine buds in it that unfolded to resemble a flower, it was pretty cool
I forgot something about avatar and you helped me remember thank you ❤😊
There is definitely weed in it it's why uncle iroh is so chill
I remember when Binging With Babish did Fire Flakes. His looked great, yours look better!

His cabages
Omg I’m literally watching it rn❤😊
They made a whole ass culture for the show lmao
Man i gotta rewatch avatar
Lizzy's hair is so nice lol
We made an easy version of the fire flakes. We fried pieces of springroll rice paper and we tossed in Togarashi, salt, and paprika. REALLY addicting
Also that spread from the Beifong house
I have that cookbook! I haven't made the fire flakes yet, but I have done the Sizzle Crisps, they were bangin'!
Binging with babish did fire flakes and made a ruce based paste, dehydrated it and then deep fried it. Looks so good
The cabbage merchant's cabbages is the only correct answer.
The fire flakes look soo good
Nothing will beat the cartoon version

I can't get over zuko, he's really handsome oh my gosh😂
OHMYGOD THE FIRE FLAKES I WANT SINCE DAY ONE OF AVATAR.
Fun fact: jasmine tea is zuko’s favourite tea and iroh’s is ginseng tea :)
I’m sick of youtube showing me all these recent comments instead of the actual top because I have to see people and their unbearable rhetoric
Same bro it's so annoying
Wow!!!! We will never be able to ask Uncle Iroh that question, smh. Rest in Peace Uncle Mako
jasmine tea is made with leaves, specifically first 3 leafs on a bud
I didn't know they was posting recipes. I'm gonna has to try fire flakes
(Before watching the rest of the short)
I would want to try the cabbage man’s cabbages.
If you cook toast then let it cool then cook it again you get so much crunch
The azula actress is hilarious looking. Looks like she’s going a Gaten Matarazzo cosplay
I would love to try Appa!
