Sam has a good point about faithfulness. If you look at Hebrews 11:31 it says "By faith" Rahab hid the spies, whereas James 2:24 it says by "works" Rahab hid the spies. See how both faith and works are encompassed in the same action? This implies faithfulness.
@@greatbriton8425 I’m not sure I fully agree with that. You said it was not by faith that she hid the spies. But that just begs the question, by what did she hid the spies then? By her faithlessness? Moreover, you are drawing a sharp dichotomy between her faith and hiding the spies, but the verse doesn’t do that. In fact, the verse explains her faith *in terms of* hiding the spies. If you look at the translations, they use the words “because” “for” “when” to connect her faith with hiding the spies - it’s one fluid thing. This “pastor’ is difficult to listen to because he is being obtuse. He seems to believe in himself rather than Jesus. and I am not convinced he is motivated by the Holy Spirit. Sam is certainly filled with the Holy Spirit.
I'm sorry, but it's utterly difficult to listen to this discussion. I came here with curiosity about Sola Fide. But I got stubborn guest, weird analogies, straw manning, and speaking Greek as if to boast eloquence. I don't get why Martin is stressing so much about faithfulness and believing, and spent a long time just to go round and round. Then at other point, he and Sam are debating about the faithfulness of children, then Martin raised about children's age and the object of their faithfulness, whether it be God or their parents. I'm speaking nonsense now. But my head is spinning listening to Sam, who is very patient here, and Martin who keeps going round and round, either trying to prove a point or "accidentally" confirming Sam's arguments.
May the Spirit enlighten Pastor JD.....1 Samuel 16:7 " For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance , but the Lord looks at the HEART ". The thief on the cross can't do anything, he just believed in his Heart and Declared with his Mouth that Jesus is Lord & that God will raise him from the Dead..Yet the God Jesus joined him for three days in Hades (Abraham's Side/ Paradise)..."today you will be with Me in Paradise", says the Lord Jesus
NO BAPTISM DONE...JUST THE HEART THAT BELIEVES. BAPTISM WITH WATER IS SYMBOLIC...JUST ANOTHER WAY OF DECLARING THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR ..A DECLARATION NOT BY MOUTH BUT BY ACTION...AND THAT THE WORLD CAN NOW EXPECT FROM THE BAPTIZED THAT HE IS NOW A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.
But the Baptism with Fire/Holy Spirit is even more pleasing to God. Baptism with the Holy Spirit means Christ is already in you. Even Cornelius and his family got baptized with the Holy spirit ahead of Peter baptizing them with water which just translated as formality. Baptism with the Holy Spirit,, ie, a pure intention of a contrite Heart, is even more pleasing to God than mere ""Show-off but without the repentant heart"
Sam is so patient with this man. BTW: The Bible's earthly author was the Catholic Church. If the original author wants to an edit a book, that's fine. If someone else like Muhammad or Luther or Calvin want to edit it, they need permission from the author or else it is plagiarism.
Communion means the Churches are in aggreement of Catholic theology..including the Pope.. . Difference is the Rite..the worshipping of God is different..liturgy..songs..music...mode of dress ..style of church..etc
Just watching this now...something not spiritually right with this young man..sounds like when Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Saviour of The World was tempted in the wilderness...remember you know the devil knows scripture...I hope and pray that he finds The Truth only God knows if he is sincere.
I was also waiting for quite a while for them to start talking about Sola Fide. I got lost in this whole discussion with a bunch of faulty analogies and "I think" arguments.
I have no idea why this pastor thought having a conversation with Sam would be fruitful. Sam may be useful if he is arguing against cocky arrogant opponents because he fits in right in there with them. The ironic part is that Sam is the one who is truly not listening and yet that is his biggest complaint. While there are some things that I believe Sam is correct on, his contentious spirit and trying to control the narrative and conversation makes him utterly useless for anyone who may benefit from anything he has to say.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. The pastor was interrupting Sam constantly and at one point slandered him. Protestants are full of pride, they think they’re the “real” Christians while everyone else is going to hell like Catholics and Orthodox Christians. Protestants like this guy create confusion too, and God’s not the author of confusion. It’s demonic, and doesn’t come from the Spirit of God. Protestants will argue, disagree on every issue, and will deliberately never find any common middle ground, and will dismiss scripture itself if it goes against their man-made narratives or mindset.
@@annieoakley153 to say their conversation was the pastor throwing confusion and that makes it of Satan…. Hmmm I didn’t see much confusion, I saw a discussion of two trying to discuss their differences of opinion and in my opinion the pastor was much more restrained and respectful in the discussion, then to follow up by broadly labeling Protestants as prideful and believe everyone else goes to hell only shows me you may misunderstand Protestants. Careful who we say are doing work of satan, these are two men who have faith in Jesus as their savior and don’t draw undue division in Christ followers 🙏 it’s ok for Protestants to defend their position same as Sam, that’s actually a prerequisite of a discussion
@shamounian - how to understand the life of Lot. Abraham believed and it was counted to him righteousness....and he did show in the form of works too...but no works were found done by Lot, still Peter calls him righteous in his epistle. How to understand this?
You guys missed the scripture truth: J.D. does not accept the Bible’s teaching that FAITH itself comes from God. It is a gift of God, and does not come from ourselves. The one thing that DOES come from us is DESIRE to know God. Even if a person has no faith, but they DO have a desire for God, God can count their desire as qualifying them for God to draw them. The Catholic Church teaches Sola Gratia… we are saved by GRACE ALONE. God does 100% of the saving, and no work of ours, including having FAITH, does the saving. God’s grace saves us. When God sets out to save a person, that person will be able to do the works of God, which starts by having faith/trust in God.
It is a little bit frustrating for a liturgical Christian like myself, familiar with the old rites, first Christians, Church Fathers, etc. to try and listen to J.D. not having done a bit more homework on the first 4 or so centuries of the Church. The points he is starting over the first 20 minutes are wrote. When Sam was using 2 Timothy, that should have encouraged J.D. to amend his point at least on the "gates of Hell" only to the apostles point. It makes him come across as less sincere than I believe he is. Questioning the Church Fathers like Polycarp who was specifically taught and placed by the apostle John takes some real lack of self-analysis. I wonder if he's read St. Ireneaus? St. Ignatius? St. Athanasius? St. Basil or St. Cyprian? Would they make a difference to him or would he instead prefer his own inclinations? The Bible is very obviously not simple, especially 2 millenia and 3000 miles away from the original audience. I defer to the ancient bishops of the Church over my own judgement of the Gospel. I am a Catholic.
And as a Catholic, do you not believe great deal of things, that not only don't agree with, but directly contradict Church fathers? Maryology, for example. So in a world, where both Protestants, Orthodox and Catholics disagree with the First Church teachings, using disagreement with Church fathers as a sign of a lack of humility is a very dangerous thing.
@@kakhakheviashvili6365, the Council of Ephesus disagrees with you, as do a large number of the earliest writings we have from the fathers. Are there particular tenants you have in mind? I believe there documentary evidence which could clear this up.

I always lose my temper arguing with Protestants. Even in my Protestant days I never believed in "faith alone", which in English should be translated as "fidelity alone", in the sense of faithfulness. As love, faith is a continuous work that never stops. I revered the Catholic Church for her influence over European civlization and how she created a little of heaven on earth for centuries, and Protestant friends of mine just hated and bashed the Catholic Church into oblivion. They pride themselves reading the Bible all the time that they lose all sense of reality and how the world actually works and has worked.

@@idkwis2230 Unfortunately, that's not what Catholics believe. You can't get saved unless you are a Catholic, and trust in your own good works, and go to purgatory, and hope your family can pray you out of purgatory.
The wording of the Nicaean/Constantinopolitan Creed is just Acts 2? This creed was labored and fought over in the early 4th century. It WAS NOT prima facie, if was to delineate what was true teaching from false, dealing with of course Arias but also Paul of Samasota and his false baptisms. J.D.'s willingness to come on is commendable, but he seems very young in his study of the faith. I hope that he continues to follow the commands of Christ Jesus and is filled with the Holy Spirit.
Even if he says it’s constructed from Acts 2, that only supports the Catholic/Orthodox position. Since the Fathers who created the Nicene Creed all believed in baptismal regeneration, then this means the early Church saw Acts 2 as teaching the same. That gives our interpretation ancient support and means the Protestant one is novel.

I realize this is a year old. But, JD is so busy trying to prove his point based on his ideas, that he twists meanings of words, either expands or restricts definitions to try to prove his point that he's restricting his mind from learning or hearing you. It has helped to cement my decision to convert from United Methodist to Catholic. I've been reading the RCIA online book and so many things I didn't agree with in the Methodist Church, is explained well and just makes sense. Things I have been told Catholics believe, I now know isn't true. When he suggests that your teaching beliefs of men and when you stand before God (a terror point Protestants love to throw at people) i understand your point to be that the church and its traditions and what the Catholic church believes is not the result of a man deciding the churches faith, but it is based on the inspired leading of the holy spirit. I have been led to my decision in so many ways as I have tried to lean on the holy spirit to guide my path in the course of my life and not simply rely on what the Methodist church or any church says I should believe, and that has led me solidly to the Catholic church. I do wish JD would slow down a bit and I pray that he will sincerely listen. He's an awesome guy and I love how much he loves the lord...I believe the Lord is working on him through the holy spirit, I pray he gets out of his own way and let's the holy spirit truly lead and guide him to the truth. Thank you for your patience and compassion with this man and for the work you do in following God's call on your life.
You all who were raised in apostolic churches, I don't think you know the depth of insanity that goes on in some Protestant churches. I've heard things from Protestant pastors that would turn your blood cold. I had a pastor tell me once that God hates most of the human race, and "the world" in John 3:16 refers to vegetation on planet earth. I've heard a teacher teach that dead babies of unbelievers go to hell but dead babies of Christians are "clean" and thus saved. I've heard a pastor say divorce is God's will because a marriage that ends in divorce was predestined that way and therefore hadn't been binding before God. Just a few examples off the top of my head. If you think this Pastor JD is unreasonable, you aint seen nothing yet.

Usually like Sam but I think is off on this. Referring to the church fathers is frankly a moot point. Seems to be unsure about the Popes position. In 2023 the pope blesses homosexual unions! Furthermore, he would not be considered the worst pope. The first chapters of Revelation John is rebuking the church and leaders. The church at Corinth along with its leaders were a hot mess. The point is look at the BIBLE. That's the Word of God! Sam wants to go back and look at the fathers for instruction. Epic fail IMO. He has magnified His Word above His name... Psalm 138.
Infant baptism is ridiculous. How can a baby first understand sin. Make a decision to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus. Only Jesus is out intermediary between us and the Father. Acts 2:38-39
There is none righteous no not one, not Mary, not Noah, no one. If God would keep certain people from all sin, then why would He not just keep us all from sin? Also what is the point of keeping Mary an immaculate virgin after Christ's birth? And if Mary were immaculate, and was assumed into Heaven, why does not scripture show that? Surely the canonical scriptures inspired and kept by God should have explicitly revealed such important points and events? But we don't get that teaching from any of the original disciples or apostles, we get them from later Church fathers, many of whom we know fell into heresies about purgatory, religious rites, prayer to saints, etc.
The same way you show love is through action, you show faith through the action. You must act to show faith, and not just by saying you have it. Sam, you make understanding the Bible very easy. I appreciate and enjoy the way you explain. May God continue to bless you and your good work.
Easy solution: the children are required to be OBEDIENT to their parents. So, yes, faithful in that they are actively obedient (obeying) the parents. Therefore faithfulness in being obedient in an active sense.

I've got headache listening to this guy. There's already an example Sam give but he still wants to give his own analogy so he can skip. And worst he keeps cutting Sam.
If you notice the different way of talking between them, you really get to know who has the truth. The pastor always starts by saying "i think" or "to me" And Sam does not. So its between what the protestant think and feel , And what the true church of Christ KNOWS.
Lord, have mercy. The J.D. guy is trapped within false dialectics and rationalizations to tenuously cling onto his erroneous presuppositions. It is such a relief to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church, leaving the chaos and confusion of Protestantism behind.
J.D. would have to give up his career and livelihood to accept the truth. Many pastors have done it because they understand truth and eternity are more important than their career in a heretical sect.
The Pastor's most common phrase was "I think..." Opinions don't mean anything. He's already presupposing faith alone throughout the whole conversation without proving it
It wasn't his presupposition. The Gospel directly states it. James the brother of Jesus restates it, Paul, and it's also taught by Paul to both the Gentiles and Jewish converts. Sam was arguing regarding what Faith is/ means and accidentally rejecting the definitions used by Paul in Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians. He jumped into debate mode Rejecting Arminian doctrine as he was moving towards Catholicism and trying to protect his conversion. A fun discussion that accidentally became heated and changed to Soteriology. Good inspiration for us to continue studying the Word.
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin . Only the Blood of Christ can cleanse us from sin . As a Full Gospel Spirit Filled Christian I will say that people who believe should be baptized but there isn't enough water in the entire universe to wash away sin .The only baptism that counts is being baptized into the body of Christ it is a spirit baptism not water baptism .Your dead spirit is born again by faith not works .
You are citing the Gospel, but others are promoting Thomas Aquinas who openly disagreed with Jesus, Peter ,Paul, and many of the early church fathers. Thomas promoted ideas that were condemned by the early church , including directly multiple popes and listed as great Heresies in "Adversus Haereses" from the 2nd century A.D.

This was frustrating to watch, JD seemed to answer without listening. Then when he is forced to listen changes the topic. Growing pains. Sam it was cool to see you move through the various switches and always references back to scripture regardless of where the conversation went. It would be interesting to see how JD would respond if he is more pinned down on some of these verses instead of bringing up other passages not related to the original question. I’m glad he was open to discussion nonetheless.
The pastor must get to grips with the fact that if the Church Father's are right,he is wrong, and the Church Father's were guided by the Holy Spirit. Were the Church Father's guided or misguided by the Holy Spirit? So Pastor where does this leave your belief?
Hallo Sam, Catholics believe that the Pope is not the head of the Church. Christ is King and the head of the Church. The Pope is only his representative on earth.
I can surely say Sam is blessed of the Spirit to teach! If you have ears of true discernment, you have to listen. Sam is a faithful servant, but don't believe in Sam believe in the saving grace of God.
I commend the patience and grace brother Sam exhibited in this discussion. It was frustrating how many straw-men Martin used in this discussion and how he came into this his with fixed protestant/ antiCatholic beliefs until he was pressed to finally open the Bible and see what scripture said rather than his opinions or private interpretations, which became very telling once the Bible was opened. Typical Calvinistic/ protestant habit of reading scripture through that lens and avoiding biblical exegesis, rather letting scripture speak for itself. To try to skirt around or appeal to Greek to wax eloquent when his position backfires in light of proper exegesis was frustrating. He came in with his objections against the creeds, with his false assumptions against the creeds even though he couldn’t prove this clearly due of his limited knowledge on the subject. Glory to God that brother Sam was gracious and didn’t go for the juggler. I hope he rewatches this and sees his flaws and corrects them on his journey out of Calvinism and in other future discussions. As a protestant on a journey myself I can relate fully with the demeanour and anti Catholic objections. I urge protestants to take off their protestant lenses and study the rich history of the early Church to learn and appreciate the early church traditions, including the fathers, why the ancient churches reject sola scriptura and believe what they believe. This was my starting point.
I don't think Protestant or Catholicism matters because at the end, Jesus is the One matters. Even a guy with no religion (That died on cross beside Jesus) is also saved believing Jesus.
John 3:3-8 KJV Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, you must be born again to see the kingdom of heaven. The wind blows where it wilst, where it comes and goes you don't know, you hear the "sound" of it, and "so it is with all those who are born again."
Yes it certanly is. But is not your action, it’s Gods action (Joh 1, 12-13) The faith is something wich comes when the gospel is preached (Rom 10,17). Actions is born out of faith, but faith itself is no action of ours.

I've learnt an exceptional amount and his courage is infectious but while we debat the finality, don't forget our GOD came and Gave Up HIS LIFE for us all while we were still sinners. JD Martin made the best arguments, and Sam continually interrupted and changed the goalpost of his points of view. Sam kept saying you're not getting what I'm saying, and you need to listen to my complete response. Yet he continually ignores and interrupts JD's attempt to respond to Sam's fluctuating points. Sam also kept asking questions of JD, which seemed very purposeful to avoid answering questions. I feel sorry for Sam [if] he's left the true gospel of Jesus Christ and embraced a works-based faith found in most Catholic denominations. I'm not sure about the Assyrian Church of the East, but that's for Sam to earnestly determine. Clearly, most, if not all, Catholic denominations hold to many un-Biblical doctrines in regards to issues of faith, salvation, authority, Mary, and other related matters. Seek Jesus Christ and not a religion of man. Blessings †
Sadly this time I see Sam blaming the other brother for what he himself was doing: you are wrong and I am right before even listening to the argument. Well, nobody can have all right. In both definitions of faith he keeps saying that "my definition of faith" is the correct one and the one about faith being "believing" Is not biblical one. And I think the other brother has a point with faith meaning believing.

Definition of faith given in Scripture is in Heb. 11:1: "faith is assurance of things we hope for, convictions of things we do not see." 1 Tim 4:10 says: " ... the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially those who believe". Salvation is not limited only to those who believe but it does not mean everybody will be saved either.
Did JD say he doesnt believe the early Church fathers were authorized to articulate Church doctrine? Does he think Peter took the keys to the Church to the grave with him?
the early church fathers condemned Baptism of Desire. In the 300s Saint Ambrose said," Baptism which the Church administers: the Baptism of water and the Holy Ghost, with which catechumens need to be baptized . . . Nor does the mystery of regeneration exist at all without water, for ‘Unless a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom.’ Even earlier in the 2n century Saint Cyprian condemned it publicly and refused to baptise claimants and named them as Heretics. Pope Stephen called the Afircan Synod over the issue who ruled it is a false baptism, and the Heretics needed to bebaptised by water. Popes Gregory and Innocent condemed 'of desire', Nulla Salus remained catechism. Desire became an actual issue during the Council of Trent when Saint Alphonsus promoted it. Itwasn't Dogma until "1917 CODE OF CANON LAW On Ecclesiastical Burial (Canon 1239. 2)". Way before then, Pope Innocent III declared "Faith Alone" without a water baptism is dogma proven by the early Doctors ho are saints, Sacraments in "Apostolicam" they never received water Baptism but persevered in Fath freeing them from sin. "in ebitum pastoralis officii", the same pope declared to recive water baptism, it has to be performed by another person other than one's self.

Moreover, these words (because, for, when) indicate the *reason for* something. So hiding the spies was *the reason* for her faith. There is no sharp distinction here.

As a protestant myself i just witnessed the protestant brother argue himself out of his own arguments with the living word of God.
Brother, this is the fruit of protestantism.
BAPTISM WITH WATER IS SYMBOLIC...JUST ANOTHER WAY OF DECLARING THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR
..A DECLARATION NOT BY MOUTH BUT BY ACTION...AND THAT THE WORLD CAN NOW EXPECT FROM THE BAPTIZED THAT HE IS NOW A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.

The book of Jonah is a great example of a faithful or believer not doing Gods will. I mean he eventually did though.
Was this about sola fide ? Or about faith ? I got lost and confused.
he was confused too.
What a great point. Did John the Baptist suggest people get baptized we he was declaring that the Kingdom of God was at hand? What a joke.

This creed was labored and fought over in the early 4th century.

It is such a relief to be a part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church, leaving the chaos and confusion of Protestantism behind.
The fact that you feel the need to say that exposes you as a babe in Christ.
J.D. would have to give up his career and livelihood to accept the truth.
I don't think God would make it this hard to know. Abraham was granted all, without all this argument. He had faith in the father and lived as such.
Sam you keep on cutting off J.D. I've hear you say how you respectfully listen to others - really?
I wished that that peopel how whant to debate others would learn the basics about that what they opposing!
As a protestant on a journey myself I can relate fully with the demeanour and anti Catholic objections.

stop barking like a female d-0-g since no one gives a d-am-n for you or your opinion.
I have been watching you for years you and David woods your knowledge of the Bible is unbelievable I consider it a privilege when I catch your programs p.s. Jesus care 😊
James2:19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. Preach it Sam!
I think Pastor J.D has the right essence to the arguments. I do like Sam, and I'm thank ful for him. I've learnt an exceptional amount and his courage is infectious but while we debat the finality, don't forget our GOD came and Gave Up HIS LIFE for us all while we were still sinners. Salvation is a gift! so none can boast. Baptism is a statement to the enemy, being a berean is for edification if the LORD and to increase our faith and relationship with HIM.
Like anything, a healthy prayer life ( prayer of the righteous avail much ) and having connection with the LORD leads us to action in faith.
Excellent closing statement, Sam. God bless! ✝♥
I hate to say it, but Sam accuses other people of interrupting, but he interrupts quite often. Allow him to talk.
@@lordazimotheus5487my feeling to, and Pastor never stayed on his argument, but rather jump around…
I've been watching you for a while now Sam. Your Knowledge is IMMENCE concerning scripture and Church history. I have been learning so much from you. I am so glad that in this video you had such patience. This brother was splitting hairs and diverting the whole time. You did great at explaining even though he tried to not let you. BUT.. you did it with a patient heart. It saddens me to see that your patience is running out nowadays. Don't get lost in the stream of comments. Keep using your wealth of biblical knowledge for Him, don't grow tired. With great power comes great responsibility.
Blessings †
James 2:22 "...faith was completed by their works."
And I think the other brother has a point with faith meaning believing.
sadly, I see you barking like a female d-0-g who thinks he is right. skype me to go live to dbeate your heresy or I will block you: benny_malik3
female d-0-g, stop manifesting in the comments section is a tool of narcissists. now skype me to go live to debate instead of foaming at the mouth like the d-0-g who birthed you. I will block you in an hour if you don't do so.
Sam, you’re a blessing to all Christians, especially those of the Apostolic Churches ✝️🙏🏼
In the 300s Saint Ambrose said," Baptism which the Church administers: the Baptism of water and the Holy Ghost, with which catechumens need to be baptized . . . Nor does the mystery of regeneration exist at all without water, for ‘Unless a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom.’
Even earlier in the 2n century Saint Cyprian condemned it publicly and refused to baptise claimants and named them as Heretics.
Excellent stream, keep up the great work!
I really enjoyed this conversation between Sam and me.
Funny how when protestants really want to fallow Christ and the truth and hunt for that real truth they end up turning Catholic blessed be our lord Jesus 🙏 and his holy mother!!!!
One detail that always stands out with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is he taught by example, not simply told his disciples to serve others but he himself washed their feet.
Jesus was baptized by John so now you think yourself better than our Lord?
Talk is cheap. Walk the talk.
Sam , because you search only for the truth, God grant you the truth. Many protestants already have their bias, prejudices from their family background when they grow up , so the truth is not what they look for. They try to find in the Bible whatever saying, verses fit their bias. Thank to Jesus Christ who look into your heart and bring you to the truth through Holy Spirit.
May God always bless you to be firm in the truth.
