Llama was a hit with our young family, and with many non gaming friends. Thankfully it has replaced UNO as the traditional family card game in our home. Sure, it isn't On Mars, or even Draftasaurus, but it is what it aims to be and it does it well. I will totally be buying the dice game. Variety? Yes please!
I couldn't disagree more about the theming being a mistake--outside of the hobbyist bubble, Llama was a large success and has worked well with any non-gamers I've played it with. Theming spin-offs based on successful properties is a smart move. (Don't) Llama Dice also has way too much in common with its card game counterpart to be themed differently (matches lead to discards, lack of matches lead to draws, chip removal/values, special cards being 10 points, duplicate cards only counting once, etc.). Theming this completely differently may help bring in some enthusiasts (which isn't really the target market here), but it could turn off the fanbase of the card game and make it less intuitive to learn for the casual players.

I think for the 1 in every 10 people who doesn't like Llama but would like this, there are 9 people who liked Llama and will like this, so I think the name/theme works well.
I like llama and honestly can't explain why. Maybe my upbringing on skipbo and uno makes me love it because it gives me the same feel? PUSH! Is probably my favorite push your luck game and it also gives me a similar feel. I was really hoping this one was going to be well received. Now I'm super excited to pick this one up for my family (especially with Chris also being a fellow champion for Push!)
I suggest buying the app which includes all versions (l.l.a.m.a., l.l.a.m.a. party, l.l.a.m.a. dice, and l.l.a.m.a. dice solo). It's a cheap way to try which version you like better for yourself. (Personally i prefer l.l.a.m.a. party).
I’ve had a lot of fun sharing LAMA (the card game). LAMA Party adds several fun little twists that I aim to always include. This dice version looks like great fun with a bit more meat.
Knizia is one of my favorite designers, but I don't have any of his push your luck dice games. Between Excape and Don't Llama Dice which do you guys prefer?
I don’t mind Don’t LLAMA the card game for what it is and playing with non-gamers so to speak. I picked this up at GenCon and am looking forward to it as well.
Ha! I’m surprised by this review.. we like lama ok, but felt this game played itself a bit more, bc in lama you might have to choose between playing the same number card or one higher. Dice is definitely more kinetic tho! And we all had a good laugh at the incredibly bad name
We quite liked LLAMA. It was basically a tiny, push your luck Skip-Bo. Great with kids. This looks like an instant buy, but agreed the theme is not great.
I played this first (before the card game) and loved it, way more than I thought I would. Then I immediately bought a copy of the card game... and passed it on a week later :-/ I've enjoyed Llama Dice with all age groups, all kinds of players. Success!!

Not a bad point, I definitely thought of this after I said it, but I wanted a hill to die on, so I think it's a terrible name 😛
Our groups really enjoy lama party, adding the dice will allow it to play two different ways. Thanks for the review!
I got the German edition when it was first released. This has been a hit with every group I’ve played it with!
We played this on the cruise and bought it shortly after. Felt like a nice pub game that anyone could enjoy.

Happen to be dusting off our copy tonight to play with a mixed gamer/non gamer group, and I’m certain it will be a hit… because it always is!
I don't llama dice, but i never uno card. I know not to fuji flush. I won't phase ten. Try the fillet of fish! I heard it's exquisite llama dice.

We generally like easy games but we couldn’t even finish a game of LLAMA… it just felt like the game played itself. Maybe this we’ll be better

Llama is Krizia UNO, and Llama dice is Knizia LCR. Much of the game "plays itself" but it is important to see the points where it doesn't.
