  • Here we make a short ( for me ) brief on what options you have for building guitar amps, and what I prefer. The short answer is to pick the wire you like and get the gauge that is best suited for the amperage you are running through it. That simple. If anyone tells you that Wire x is better than Wire Y they are selling you something. Sonically there is no difference, it is truly a matter of preference. So long as the gauge of wire you choose is rated for the voltage and amperage you need, you have nothing to worry about.

This is what most guit amp building/repairing channels hardly ever cover. Another seldom mentioned is method of determining outer foil/negative of capacitors.

I've been using 20 awg solid silicone sheilded. And 18 solid for heaters. Sometimes 20 awg for heaters.
I find it easy to get a tidy lead dress that stays where you leave it.

Thanks for the vid. I learned a lot. My turn to contribute. “Superfluous” first meaning is “Unnecessary”, so it was quite confusing when u were saying that the 20G was “unnecessary” :)

My understanding of superfluous is that it’s more than sufficient, perhaps it’s second meaning :) 20awg is just that size that is either not enough, or too much generally speaking. At least in the majority of amp builds.
