    FUN FACT
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore went on tour with their stage show in New Zealand in 1969. At one point, they were in Invercargill, the southern most city in New Zealand, in Southland, our southernmost province. Due to its isolation , Invrrcargill is comparable to John O'Groats in Scotland or Barrow in Alaska.
Invercargill had been infamously described a few years earlier by Mick Jagger as "the arsehole of the world" due to it's isolation and lack of any thing to do.
Now, while Pete and Dud were in Invercargill for their stage show, their movie, Bedazzled, was actually playing at one of Invercargill's two cinemas. Trapped with nothing to do, Pete and Dud went to watch Bedazzled. They later recounted how, when the movie ended, they went back to the lobby to wait for the audience to emerge, to see if they had anything to say about the film.
Pete and Dudley reported that as the filmgoers of Invercargill emerged, they saw the two stars of the film in the lobby. They all acted startled, tucked their heads into their chests as though embarrassed by the sight of them, and scuttled off into the night as quickly as possible, and no one stopped to say a word to them.
That was the level of cultural sophistication in Invercargill on 1969.
I was five years old at the time, living 50 miles to the west, out beyond the black stump, as we say in NZ, blissfully unaware of any of this until I read of the event, many years later.
