This was THE Christmas movie for us. Every Christmas, since I was little, we would play it on Christmas Eve and wrap last minute presents or do various Christmas activities. It has always been a treasured memory for me, and I’ve probably seen it over 50 times (because I would watch it during the year occasionally lol). The actor with the reddish hair, Danny Kaye (playing the character Phil Davis), was a special part of that film for me and my family, as my grandmother knew him personally and worked for him in Hollywood back in the early 60s. She had some neat stories about him and her meetings with him, and she always said he was as charming as he seems on screen. He did a lot of work for children too, which is why a lot of songs and story tapes I grew up with had his charming, fun voice on them 😊. He never failed to make me smile, feel charmed, or laugh when I most needed it. So this movie is definitely a comfort film, especially around Christmas. And you can’t forget about Bing Crosby, Vera Ellen, Rosemary Clooney…oh, there’s loads of talent that I could go on about haha. Anyways, very neat to see you watching this - made me smile.
Danny Kaye is an absolute treasure... singing, dancing and most of all comedic gold. To see more, I recommend "The Inspector General" and "The Court Jester" (I believe that is the name).
When I was a kid I had the biggest crush on Danny Kaye. Hans Christian Anderson was my favorite movie. 😊 Inspector General is definitely a good one. There were so many fun films with him in them❤
Bing Crosby (Wallace) is one of the most iconic entertainers in U.S. history. He was the first real pop star, predating Sinatra, and is arguably on our musical Mount Rushmore
According to Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye's "Sisters" performance was not originally in the script. They were clowning around on the set, and director Michael Curtiz thought it was so funny that he decided to film it. In the scene, Crosby's laughs are genuine and unscripted, [Kaye kept poking him with the feathers and covering uph is face and such] as he was unable to hold a straight face due to Kaye's comedic dancing. Clooney said the filmmakers had a better take where Crosby didn't laugh, but when they ran them both, people liked the laughing version better. Michael Curtiz was the same guy who directed Casablanca some 12 years before!!
My family watched this movie every year on the night we’d decorate the Christmas tree. I’ve probably seen it 20 times. I’ve got really young kids, but when they’re a little older I plan to do the same tradition with them. Coming from a ~35 year old guy who would normally hate this type of movie…this film is just awesome.
John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' " Jesus does love yall, and he'll get you through dark places. God bless yall in Jesus's name, amen ✝️🙏🏻🫶
The guy with the reddish hair, Danny Kaye, was a superb comedic actor, very funny as well as singing, dancing, and serious acting skills. Any movie he starred in was a good one. The other gentleman, Bing Crosby, was a huge singing star in his day. He's well known for the song White Christmas, first sung in this movie. He also was a very good actor, as you can see. The lady with the short hair, Rosemary Clooney, was also a popular singer. I'm not familiar with the other lady.
Rosemary Clooney was also George Clooney's aunt. Danny Kaye was in many a comedic movie particularly Hans Christian Anderson and the Court Jester, both are just nostalgic fun on film. Vera-Ellen was also very famous at the time, starring in many a movie that involved dancing, working with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly as well as Danny Kaye.
John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' " Jesus does love yall, and he'll get you through dark places. God bless yall in Jesus's name, amen ✝️🙏🏻🫶
Danny Kaye is the actor who played Phil. He can be seen in: The Court Jester, The Inspector General, Up in Arms, Wonder Man, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), A Song is Born, Hans Christian Anderson, The Five Pennies, and many more. I just listed some of my favorites (in no particular order). I would love to see you react to some of them! Danny Kaye was a great actor.
Bing Crosby (Wallace) was probably the greatest Crooner of all time. Rosemary Clooney, the one paired with him, was also a well-known singer. The other two were more known for comedy and dancing. Which isn't to say they're bad at the singing, but it's understandable which two you noticed for the nice voices.
Mary Wickes was a "character actor" queen. She played a housekeeper, nurse, or favorite aunt in many, many movies. Funny or grumpy but always caring and sensitive was her method of character acting. One if my all time favorites.
Bing Crosby was the highest grossing entertainer of the 20th century...until Michael Jackson came along. Bing was wildly popular and voices like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin aspired to "sing like Bing". Dean actually released a single called 'If I Could Sing Like Bing" Take a look at the move *Holiday Inn* from 1947, with Bing and Fred Astaire. It's the first time the song "White Christmas" was introduced to the world.
Rosemary Clooney, who played the older sister, is the aunt of George Clooney. She grew up in Northern Kentucky. My family recently went to her childhood home, which is now a museum. The costumes from this movie were on display. They are just as beautiful in person.
Magic of stages in movies. They expand to be bigger than the space. Oh and the "rehearsals " are just a way to fit another song and dance routine into the film.
The two of you are great when watching films with complex plotlines, but I also enjoy seeing you relax and take in something innocuous and fun like White Christmas. Keep watching and we'll keep watching you. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Bing Crosby told his nephew that the hardest thing he even did as an entertainer was get through singing "White Christmas" to thousands of troops in Europe during WWII without breaking down in tears.
I though I would mention that the actor who played General Waverly (Dean Jagger) won an Oscar for his role in 12 O'Clock High. It would be a good film to watch for Rememberance Day next year.
This is my first view of your channel, and it was so nice! This is a great reaction to one of my favorite Christmas movies. Looking forward to seeing more of your channel.
White Christmas is actually a sequel of sorts, because there’s another Crosby film called Holiday Inn, that was when the song “White Christmas” was first released by Bing. It was made over a decade before, during WW2 (1942). I don’t know if Crosby and Kaye did any other films together, but Crosby made several films with Bob Hope in what referred to as “Road” pictures. They were very funny and Bob Hope was famous for entertaining the troops for decades, overseas. He started during WW2 and continued into Desert Storm, 50 years later. Hope lived to be 100, passing in 2003.
Interesting how you pick out the singing voices of Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney, 2 of the greatest singing stars of the mid 20th century. White Christmas was already Bing’s signature song for years before this movie, and his recording of it was the most played record in the whole of the 20th century. Danny Kaye was a beloved all-rounder - an actor, comedian, dancer and show-singer, Vera-Ellen was one of the greatest of all the movie dancers, her singing here was dubbed. All 4 are great treasures and to combine them in one wonderful film was perfection.
So glad to have found you both! I hit like and subscribed: Your channel is awesome because I was raised watching old movies as a kid in the 80s and 90s, and it's fun to see others watch the stuff that was made during my grandparents' generation! I will be sharing with friends and family.
First time on your channel. I love this movie. I've seen it a hundred times. I have three sisters and we have acted out the "sisters" song so many times! This film is probably my favorite Christmas film ever. It is just very wholesome and heartwarming and funny. I loved hearing your accents. I have a real affection for the Philippines. My sister and her family lived there for many years; one of my nieces was born there. They lived in Iloilo, Mindanao, and Cebu. It's been a long time, but they still speak Cebuano. Anyway, I enjoyed your review very much. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas from Ohio, USA.
Couple recommendations for you, since you liked this. Listen to Bing Crosby’s Christmas albums. His Christmas songs are absolute classics with that amazingly warm bass-baritone voice of his. And watch The Court Jester. It’s a movie starring Danny Kaye, who was the comedic male lead in this film, and it’s absolutely hysterical! It’s such an underrated gem.
Bing Crosby was what was called a crooner. All of his films were musicals. Some of his other films were "Holiday Inn" and "Going My Way". All of his films are worth the time. Danny Kaye was a lot of fun but I think it was the only film he was in with Crosby. Good reaction. I'm glad you liked it.
Yes!!!! ❤ So happy to see a Christmas film from y’all, been waiting since “It’s a Wonderful Life” last year! Such a great film with a great cast, fantastic music & dance sequences & the core story is beautiful…it’s about caring for others. (Hope you do more Christmas films….have a suggestion; “The Bishop’s Wife” & “The Shop Around the Corner”…think you’ll like them. 😊)
You have to understand, Danny Kaye is a WONDERFUL singer, but he plays his parts well. You can hear him croon as well as anybody, including Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, etc., but you have to see movies where that's what he's supposed to be doing. This was not one of them. Movies like Hans Christian Andersen, The Court Jester, A Song Is Born (sings with the great Louis Armstrong) were all great examples of his singing (and dancing) prowess, but he was also ALWAYS funny/comedic.
Greetings from NYC! First time hearing you’re in Romania. Cool. I can say one word in Romanian. Flutere. 🦋 I can say it in Tagalog, Bicol, Waray, Ilongo, Ilokano and others.
Have you guys seen these other Christmas movies??? 1.ELF 2.Surviving Christmas 3.A Christmas Story 4.Four Christmases 5.Scrooged 6.Scrooge 1951 7.The Ref 8.Home Alone 9.Home Alone 2 Lost In New York 10.Black Christmas 1974 11.8-BIT Christmas 12.One Magic Christmas 13.The Santa Clause 14.The Santa Clause 2 15.The Santa Clause 3 16.The Christmas Chronicles 17.The Night Before 18.Bad Santa 19.Bad Santa 2 20.A Merry Friggin Christmas 21.Deck The Halls 22.Love The Coopers 23.The Family Stone 24.The Family Man 25.Prancer 26.Mircale On 34th Street 27.Better Watch Out 28.KRampus 29.Gremlins 30.Violent Night 31.Fatman 32.Let IT Snow 33.Unccompaned Minors 34.Trapped In Paradise 35.The Ice Harvest 36.Santas Boot Camp 37.Santa With Muscles 38.Ernest Saves Christmas 39.Mixed Nuts 40.Christmas With The Kranks 41.Just Friends 42.Love Actually 43.The Muppets Christmas Carol 44.An American Christmas Carol 45.A Christmas Carol 1984
Now y'all need to splurge on this festive spirit and watch "Holiday Inn" and/or "Going My Way" - no Danny Kaye, but great movies with the crooner himself, Bing Crosby.
2 other great movies with Bing Crosby (Wallace) are THE BELLS OF ST MARY'S and HIGH SOCIETY, but be careful when you watch THE BELLS OF ST MARY'S, its an emotional ride
Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney ( George Clooney's aunt) were the professional singers. Danny Kaye and Vera ? we're more dancers. Yes there was singing and dancing because musicals were popular genres of the time.
If you look very closely at the dancers behind Betty during the Love number one is George Chakiris. He went on to win the Best Supporting Actor for West Side Story. You would enjoy but make sure to watch the original
I just wanted to throw in my favorite Danny Kaye movies. My top two are "Wonder Man" and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Other good ones are "On The Rivera" and "On The Double," but I haven't seen a Danny Kaye movie I didn't enjoy.
Bing Crosby (the one with the better singing voice) made many movies, often in old black and white, and several movies with entertainer Bob Hope. For the only one those 2 guys did together in color, check out '"Road to Bali" And for a Christmas movie suggestion, consider the 1989 original version of "Prancer".
Danny Kaye wasn't hired for his Singing he was hired for his dancing and especially his comedy if you want to see another Great Danny Kaye movie I like to Recommend Court Jester
The movie Holiday Inn 1942 with Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds, introduced the song WhiteChristmas and had somewhat a similar plot. the Movie here, White Christmas, did NOT introduce the song, it was Holiday Inn.
TBH… As much as I have been a Danny Kaye (& Bing Crosby) fan, all of my over 6 decades on this planet, this flick just never did anything for me. NOW… You MUST watch/react to the many other great flicks from Danny Kaye! “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, “Wonder Man”, “The Kid From Brooklyn”, “A Song is Born”, & especially, “The Court Jester”! Bing did some fun & funny flicks with Bob Hope, that you might also enjoy! They are, “The Road” pictures. (“Road to Morocco”, “The Road to Rio”, etc…) But, Bing also did my personal favorite flick for the holidays, “Holiday Inn”, with Fred Astaire”. Lastly, he did a delightful version of, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”! Hope you will both react to these, & enjoy them all! Happy holidays, & 2025, to you both! 😁
The Blue eyed woman is played by very famous singer Rosemary Clooney, George's Aunt. The man whose voice you prefer is Bing Crosby, a very popular singer.
Bing Crosby's recording of White Christmas is the best selling single of all time. Vera Ellen did have an eating disorder. You noticed how thin she was. Danny Kaye was a very popular comedy actor, he played Hans Christian Anderson in the movie. He also had his own television show.
Vera-Ellen did not have an eating disorder it was all rumor and disputed by family. She never had any health issues that would've resulted from an eating disorder. Died of cancer at age 60.
Danny Kaye first came to prominence in the 1941Broadway musical "Lady in the Dark" in which he sang a patter song consisting almost entirely of the names of fifty Russian composers. The story goes that each night he tried to go through all the names faster than the night before. He had to do the song acapella because the orchestra could not keep up. Years ago, I had the privilege of seeing him in person when he was on a tour as UNICEF ambassador.
The idea of doing a piece about yourselves and your lives in Romania is an excellent one. This new medium is very intimate and personal, more about visiting with friends than watching movies. You feel like friends, so knowing more about you will only help us enjoy the experience more. Thank you for sharing yourselves the way you do.
Betty is George Clooney's Mom. I could care less about him but she was a wonderful actress/singer. And there are LOTS OF MOVIES WITH Danny Kaye making lots of faces and voices and being a true silly heart.
Moin aus Hamburg or greetings from Hamburg (Germany), please watch "The Court Jester". It is an other great Movie with Danny Kaye (and Angela Lansbury, Basil Rathbone) from 1955.
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, he sent his one and only son so that whoever believes in him won't die, but have eternal life." Jesus does love you, and you can always turn to him and he'll take care of you during tough times, God bless yall, peace out ✝️🙏🏻
Most actors/actresses could act, sing and dance back then. Bing Crosby (Bob) was a singer first. Same with Rosemary Clooney (Betty).. Vera-Ellen (Judy) was a dancer and actress first. Danny Kaye (Phil) was a comedian and actor first.
Phil is played by Danny Kaye. Danny Kaye was a popular television and film star. You should watch "The Court Jester" 1955, "The Five Pennies" 1959, "Once They Marched Through a Thousand Towns" 1981, "Hans Christian Andersen" 1952, "Me and the Colonel" 1958. There are more films, but this is a start.
The sister "Betty" is played by Rosemary Clooney, who is actor George Clooney's aunt. She was married to actor José Ferrer. Their son, Miguel Ferrer starred in TV series and films. He starred in "RoboCop," "Mulan," "Iron Man 3," and "Halo2"
Yes, their voices are better. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney (George Clooney's mother) were proffessional singers. Danny Kaye was an all around performer, focused on comedy and dancing. Vera-Ellen was a dancer, one of the best, and an actress. She couldn't sing and her voice had to be dubbed during the songs.
This was THE Christmas movie for us. Every Christmas, since I was little, we would play it on Christmas Eve and wrap last minute presents or do various Christmas activities. He did a lot of work for children too, which is why a lot of songs and story tapes I grew up with had his charming, fun voice on them 😊. He never failed to make me smile, feel charmed, or laugh when I most needed it. So this movie is definitely a comfort film, especially around Christmas. Danny Kaye is an absolute treasure... singing, dancing and most of all comedic gold.
To see more, I recommend "The Inspector General" and "The Court Jester" (I believe that is the name).
Yes, those are both great. I'd also recommend The Kid from Brooklyn and Knock on Wood.
When I was a kid I had the biggest crush on Danny Kaye. Hans Christian Anderson was my favorite movie. 😊
Inspector General is definitely a good one. There were so many fun films with him in them❤
The Court Jester! YESYESYES!
It's nice to see someone react to this movie, and enjoy it & appreciate the humor.
Bing Crosby (Wallace) is one of the most iconic entertainers in U.S. history. He was the first real pop star, predating Sinatra, and is arguably on our musical Mount Rushmore
Trivia: the woman playing Betty (the sister with the beautiful singing voice, not the dancing sister), is George Clooney's aunt.

Ahhh. Sweet memories. My sister & I would watch on Christmas Eve and sing the Haynes sister song to each other. 😊😂
Wonderful, M&J! This is such a sweet movie. So glad you shared this one with us. Merry Christmas! 🌲 🎁 🎀 😊
Merry Christmas to you and your fam ❤❤

You two have discovered my family's go to favorite Christmas movie. Have watched it over 50 yrs and never will get tired of it.
Thanks for watching

That sisters scene with Wallace and Davis is one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen on film. And the way Bing Crosby breaks at the end. Fantastic
This is my father's favorite movie so we get together and watch it every year. Heartwarming and funny.
Should also mention that the actress playing the housekeeper, Mary Wickes, played Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act and Sister Act 2.
Mary Wickes was a "character actor" queen. She played a housekeeper, nurse, or favorite aunt in many, many movies. Funny or grumpy but always caring and sensitive was her method of character acting. One if my all time favorites.

Fun Fact: Betty, the sister who ends up with Bing Crosby's character Bob is played by Rosemary Clooney. She's also George Clooney's Aunt.

Loved this movie since I was a young girl ❤ So great to see you two enjoying it aswell 😄 I hope you have a White Christmas ❄ and a Joyful one 🌟
Try the" Court Jester " with Danny Kaye and " The Inspector General ." Both are Classics !!!😊
Being able to Act, sing and dance is called being a triple threat
"Again we're singing." Well, that's what happens in musicals, you know. ;)
Musical is a new area for Marian 😁
Benny the Dog-faced boy was Alfalfa of the original Little Rascals!
Couple recommendations for you, since you liked this. Listen to Bing Crosby’s Christmas albums. His Christmas songs are absolute classics with that amazingly warm bass-baritone voice of his. I just love this movie!!! The dresses at the end ARE Christmas ❤❤❤

This is a remake of the same story in an earlier movie, Holiday Inn (1942), also staring Bing Crosby, but with Fred Astaire.
Other than having the song “White Christmas” and the presence of an Inn, the two movies have very different plots.
IOW, Not a remake

Phil Davis is played by Danny Kaye. If you want to see him in an amazing comedy you should watch The Court Jester. His best movie in my opinion.
I just wanted to throw in my favorite Danny Kaye movies. My top two are "Wonder Man" and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." Other good ones are "On The Rivera" and "On The Double," but I haven't seen a Danny Kaye movie I didn't enjoy.
Bing Crosby was one of the greatest Crooners ever
Great reaction!
Thank you!! 😁
A Bing Crosby movie I would recommend that features the rat pack is Robin and the Seven hood. As for Danny Kaye I recommend the Court Jester.
Danny Kaye always gave me “Kramer” vibes.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it. The lady who said mutual I’m sure is the same lady from Singin in the Rain.
I recommend The Court Jester for more Danny Kaye.
TBH… As much as I have been a Danny Kaye (& Bing Crosby) fan, all of my over 6 decades on this planet, this flick just never did anything for me.
NOW…
You MUST watch/react to the many other great flicks from Danny Kaye!
(“Road to Morocco”, “The Road to Rio”, etc…)
But, Bing also did my personal favorite flick for the holidays, “Holiday Inn”, with Fred Astaire”.
The original heart throb in the 1930's, until Sinatra came along. All they had was radio and films, no TV.
Love Danny Kaye! You should watch him in The Inspector General ❤
"The Court Jester" is the Best!
The Court Jester is a true classic. It rated 98 on rotten tomatoes!
Seriously you guys have to watch the movies Step Brothers and Ted 😂😂😂 very funny movies you will be laughing so hard 😂😂😂😂❤
You should watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It stars the funny guy Danny Kay. It’s a fantastic funny classic film.
I also suggest Danny Kaye in the Court Jester !!!
(and Hans Christian Andersen)
Danny Kaye movies...
A Song is Born...
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty...
The Court Jester
Enjoy!
Happy Holidays
I forgot...
Hans Christian Andersen
Vera Lynn( Judy) didn't sing! Rosemary Clooney did the singing for them both
Betty is George Clooney's Mom. I could care less about him but she was a wonderful actress/singer. And there are LOTS OF MOVIES WITH Danny Kaye making lots of faces and voices and being a true silly heart.
Rosemary is George's Aunt, not his mom.
Love Danny Kaye in "Hans Christian Andersen"!
Moin aus Hamburg or greetings from Hamburg (Germany),
please watch "The Court Jester". It is an other great Movie with Danny Kaye (and Angela Lansbury, Basil Rathbone) from 1955.
A fun Christmas movie to have belly laughs to is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 🎅
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, he sent his one and only son so that whoever believes in him won't die, but have eternal life." Jesus does love you, and you can always turn to him and he'll take care of you during tough times, God bless yall, peace out ✝️🙏🏻
Vera Ellen was superior dancer in many other films.
Great reaction, you need to check out “A Christmas Story”
I just watched this yesterday for the first time too! ❤
Thank you for sharing your Christmas in Romania and in the Philippines. 🥰☃️
The funny guy is Danny Kaye; i think you'll like him in the film titled, 'The Court Jester!' Enjoyed your reaction very much.
But you completely cut out the entire "Abraham" dance sequence... Sacrilege! Vera-Ellen's dance talents/versatility were unparalleled.
I love this movietþhanks guys this is my mom favorite and do am I is my favorite christmas film
The dancer with the dark hair is actor George Chakiris who starred in the film "West Side Story" 1961.
Ironically, Bing had 7 children not 9.
almost there 😅
WHITE CHRISTMAS 🥰
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅 🎄
Go to the Alps … snow ro spare.
