when she was trying to paint over the red paint with blue paint and then it smeared and was blue, purple, and pink, the bisexual colors, man i started sobbing. i sobbed through so much of this, so brilliant, such a magnificent masterpiece. i saw todrick live in 2014 back when he was singing songs like "twerking in the rain" (which i still love) but this, omg this is out of this world, he is the george m cohan of our generation
I am so glad I’m not the only one that saw that. I spent a good hour crying after i finished watching this - dear lord did this hit me hard. It really is brilliant.
Sabrina Powell I know she didn't sing- she spoke briefly. But please let us not forget the A-MAZING Cheryl Lee Ralph at the end of "Nobody" in the cafe. She is one of THE ORIGINAL DREAMGIRLS, she helped launch the Broadway play Sylvester and so much more. She is EVERYTHING. I adore you for doing this. Thank you so much! ❤
first time I watched I didn't notice, but on 'an ordinary day', the street! Novyart - Trayvon! This is actually a cinematic masterpiece where is the Oscar?
If you watch the BTS he specifically wanted things like that. I love that as a concept. You can find a lot of interesting things if you flip the name. Basically everything is flipped, almost like a mirror to this current society of being an AMERICAN (NACIREMA). Why not reflect to send a message?
What's the significance with Novyart/Trayvon? I'm Australian so as a whole this film somewhat relates to Australian society but unable to grasp the smaller hints
Annabel L Trayvon Martin was a 17 year old black boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch member despite the police telling him not to do anything to Trayvon. His death is seen as the one which sparked the Black Lives Matter movement
As I rewatch this for the hundredth time I really see how the red head singer compared to silver spoon (which is a cute way to represent exactly that) is our entertainment industry. If you don't fit a mold it doesn't matter how talented you are because silver spoon was as generic as you could get but they loved her. Just like todrick deserves a god damn Grammy several times over but he won't get it any time soon because of the industry mold he breaks a million times over.
I'm sure you also noticed. But the race reversal of this scene too, in the past blacks would perform in from of white audiences (places where blacks couldn't enter unless as "talent" but not as patrons). The fact that it was an all black audience watching another race pour their talents out but it isn't enough is a parallel to those occurrences in the past.
I rarely write comments, I felt compelled to do so. This is absolutely brilliant. Please know that you have made this 57 year old, straight progressive Christian proud. Your work stretches us, makes us look when we want to look away; it makes us think and feel. You will be accused of not being enough of this or that, but in you little brother, God has given us something new, something more. Please take care of you. Rest, heal love and be loved. We ALL need you. I love you.
Back for this because of the recent tragedies where a black man can’t jog without being shot or breathe with a police officer abusing his power. This is such a beautiful piece of art.
If only issues were so clearly black vs white/gay vs straight/religion vs anti-religion/fat vs skinny/left vs right/right vs wrong. Sadly everything really is much more complex. There is no clear answer other than to give everyone else the same grace you want to receive. We have to accept that sometimes the people we would like to fantasize as completely innocent victims are more complex, as well. Just as those we would like to paint as evil oppressors are also much more complex. And that the media and politicians play us to further their agenda. If anything, this wonderful story proves that nothing is clearly one way or another, but a mix of both. With every piece of beauty there is a bit of darkness. With every moment of purity there is a drop of evil. Because without one, we cannot recognize the other.
todrick in my opinion is one of the most underrated artists of our time. this is truly remarkable to be produced, let alone in the time he accomplished it in. he and his team are truly breathtaking and i’m just at a loss of words this is truly art
holy shit i just noticed novyart street where the shooting takes place (25:59) backwards is trayvon st....aka trayvon martin...todrick really thinks of every little detail holy shit
Todrick is so unique in many ways. How he incorporated racism, police brutality and hatred due to one's sexuality in such a masterful way is iconic. Matter of fact the words iconic would be an insult to him he's legendary and deserves way more for his masterful work.
Amazing how he red head singing for the black people sounded like a black girl and received minimal reaction and the black girl sounded like a white pop singer and got a great reaction. This movie/musical made you think long and hard about where we came from and yet how far we still have to go. Anybody that didn’t feel anything watching is just heartless. Todrick is a genius
The societal comments and alternate universe really draws attention to the things wrong with our country historically as well as challenges we are facing now with the treatment of race, gender, and sexuality. Well done Todrick, this is a masterpiece.
"Omg he was so privileged a gay black man why he want to mess it up." - Nacriema citizen "OMG he was so privileged a white straight man why he want to mess it up." -American citizen
After watching all the visuals I came to the conclusion that todrick and JadeNovah falls in love in a gay world where heterosexuals are “Forbidden”. I love how todrick spins everything to the opposite of what the world is really like today. Even the part with the white guy being “Forbidden” in an all black world. FUCKING AMAZING. FUCKING GENIUS. YOU’RE A GIFT🎀 YOU’RE AN INSPIRATION💜
I just watched ordinary day for like the 20th time and just notice that there are no white people in the neighborhood thank you for pointing that part out
This was so much more than what we just saw on our screen. This was a piece of pure perfection. Not a parody, not a jab, not a joke. This is a view of real life for so many! To see things flipped & put into perspective from the point of view of the ones who have had to fight for the things that a huge majority of us take for granted & cannot begin to understand the magnitude of pain & anguish they've endured from just wanting/trying to live their lives being who they are, was unbelievably eye opening. I am a 38 yo white woman that accepts everybody & loves that we are all different, black/white/gay/straight/short/tall/skinny/Fluffy etc. Even though I embrace it & do not agree with hating others or changing others for being different then me, I live in a world where others do not follow my same beliefs/values. I know I cannot ever truly understand or know what others have had to go through, I can help to fight to make everyone equal & differences embraced! Todrick, you are a beautiful genius! Ty so much for this beautiful beautiful video! You truly have a gift & deserve the moon my love! ❤️❤️❤️
Makes me made that more people don't know about this... Todrick clearly put HIS WHOLE LIFE into this and it needs to be recognized like damn. People need to stop giving into the crappy UA-camrs AND WATCH THESE VIDEOS. This is truly amazing and it's changing my life.
So far I've seen 27 minutes of this and as a butch queen I'm tickled pink and gagging. I'm also pissed because this man and his whole entourage should have been made it to Broadway by now. Now that he's proven himself to the world to be a gay icon and a musical genius, the Great White Way (Broadway) needs to bow down and make this man an offer and give him full creative control over the production. If that ever happens I will be dressed up to see him and the rest of the cast. In the meantime, I hope to see his world tour.
Lmao! Your comment made me look at the time stamp where I was and surprised af to see this is a 1 .30hour long !!! I’m only 3.54 mins in and confused af lol
I look at it like this: considering the money he makes back from his productions is Nothing like the pennies Broadway would give him. Going independent is Way better for someone like him. He doesn't need the restrictions
*BREAKING NEWS:* Wigs across the world have been reported missing. It is said that Todrick Hall's new visual album, Forbidden, shook viewers so much that many of their wigs have flown away. If you happen to come across any of the missing wigs please bring them to authorities as soon as possible.
Can you do a video going through all of the symbolism you put in? (Like the small Easter eggs) I just love hearing about all the small details you went to the effort of incorporating x
This whole thing is incredibly SMART [I mean of course! it's TODRICK] but one thing honestly stood out how much emphasis the news reporter put on just describing the woman rather than saying her name! This is golden! This whole thing deserves so much recognition
You aren't wrong, that details adds to the effect, but I kind of get the impression that in terms of the story, they didn't know who the woman was specifically, just that he was being heterosexual (even though there were witnesses and they should have known). Cause if they did know who she was, they would have probably arrested and convicted her as well.
This got me emotional. Why losing your time and energy to hate? It feels so much better to love, to respect and to not judge others based on things like race, religion, sexual orientation and gender.
Emy Pierre-Louis The base of this was to show the cruelty of the world could be, but in reverse. LGBTQ is allowed and Racism and Police brutality is reversed, unlike in America where this would be unacceptable. Nacirema is american backwards, novyart is Trayvon backwards and other things are reversed. He wasn't producing hate
I have literally no words, I laughed, I cried, I danced, I sang. Absolutely amazing. Speechless. Todrick deserves everything good that's coming to him, he is nothing but raw talent and a beautiful heart and soul. Not to mention handsome. Bravo
I like how when the guy was singing “ordinary day” it represented how officers are killing black men and just going on with their lives hence “ordinary day “. And I also liked how at the end someone was literally sweeping “it” under the rug. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
When blacks get killed it is not swept under the rug it is sad but definitely not swept under the rug (at least in the last 20 years). If a cop kills someone unjustly they should be charged with whatever they did wrong but to say “swept under” is factually incorrect a vast majority of the shootings and riots over these shootings were completely justified or the police officers were treated with justice or sent to jail.
BRANDY OMG !!!!!!! JESUS CHRIST BRANDY GAVE YOU LIKE 6 DIFFERENT TEXTURES WITHIN HER VOICE !!! HER LAYERS , HER RUNS , HER SOFT WHISPERS 😩🙌🏾 NOTHING LEFT TO SAY ❤️❤️
Does anyone else start uncontrollably weeping about 3/4s in but you have to keep watching till the end because the catharsis of Apple Pie followed by the joy of Boys Wear Pink is the only thing that can make you feel complete again?
Yeah, I was never crazy about brandys singing until she had that baby in her arms but her performance made me break down like a little bitch. Maybe bc I have a grown son and I worry about him. The way the world is now and its uncertainty and turmoil, and ppl having no regards for human life it makes me upset.
He lambasted the music industry with the white singer vs black singer scene. The clearly more talented white singer was ignored (marganlised in one headphone) because her skin was not marketable in Nacirema, whereas, the mediocre black girl was praised and adored. The reverse is true of the music industry in the real world. Todrick spilled all the tea in this film!!!
And am I the only one to notice that the white woman has a "black" voice while the black singer has a "white" voice, their applause refers to their real world appreciation?? Like black voice isn't appreciated cause it is black and vice versa
Angel_aua I was thinking it was because that the soulful sound that black people have is rooted in oppression (slavery) so because black people aren't oppressed in Nacirema it made us lose that soul.
I can’t even deal with your level of talent, Todrick. Is there anything you CAN’T do or that you’re NOT amazing at??!!? I love everything about this! You are a true visionary and I absolute love your music, your voice, the cinematography, etc. I can’t believe the quality of work you spoil us with on UA-cam. Todrick you are a genius, people need to recognise that you dont get talent like this on an average day. You are a true energy of love and creativity. Thank you for creating a world for all the little boys and girls that are different to not feel so different.

Tristan van Huizen THANK YOU SOO MUCH
my suspicions have been confirmed. todrick Hall is a musical and creative genius👑👑
Why would you be suspicious?
Ona Ebodaghe yes he’s amazing omg
Ona Ebodaghe yes he most certainly is, and he looks good as a drag queen lol
I mean a GENIUS!
It was confirmed from the beginning
that you moment that you realize everything--down to the way their hands are on their chests and the flags--is literally backwards american. well done
I knew it looked weird...their hand on their heart lol
when she was trying to paint over the red paint with blue paint and then it smeared and was blue, purple, and pink, the bisexual colors, man i started sobbing. i sobbed through so much of this, so brilliant, such a magnificent masterpiece. i saw todrick live in 2014 back when he was singing songs like "twerking in the rain" (which i still love) but this, omg this is out of this world, he is the george m cohan of our generation
Magical Molly What part was this? I missed that reference

Are you sure that was actually intentional?
I came to comment on just this, the ugly cry was in full effect.
I am so glad I’m not the only one that saw that. I spent a good hour crying after i finished watching this - dear lord did this hit me hard. It really is brilliant.

Sabrina Powell thank you sooo much my friend ❤
You're welcome guys.
Sabrina Powell you’re life! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much
first time I watched I didn't notice, but on 'an ordinary day', the street!
Michael Travis honey he gave you a beach ball and an entire Semi truck to hit it but you still missed the point
Just like todrick deserves a god damn Grammy several times over but he won't get it any time soon because of the industry mold he breaks a million times over.
wolfylover4ever listen to it with head phones. You make think there’s something wrong with them but in all honesty, it’s what you just said.
If you watch straight outta oz he talks about how he was supposed to go into the music industry and then the people lied to him.
@@breebreenycole6486 m
I'm sure you also noticed. But the race reversal of this scene too, in the past blacks would perform in from of white audiences (places where blacks couldn't enter unless as "talent" but not as patrons). The fact that it was an all black audience watching another race pour their talents out but it isn't enough is a parallel to those occurrences in the past.
And now that part is silent.... wonder why
Todrick could've just politely asked for my wig, he didn't have to snatch it like that
tropical meme Mine has been snatched as well...
We'd have it no other way
tropical meme lmao! Yaaaasss!
LOL SAME
Right?!?!
I love you.
Bertice Berry awe that’s so cute
You made me cry
Agreed
This actually touched me to the point of tears. I’m so glad there are religious people like you. ❤️😭❤️
Bertice Berry Hallelujah! Thank you for that.
It truly blessed me to read unapologetic positive change happening.
May God continue to bless you.
I love the little “wrong bitch” reference you added in there that was great😂😂
Maddy Taylor yes!!!!! 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
Soooooo how can I buy this on DVD for every member of my family because this art deserved to be paid for
you can buy it as mp3 on Amazon
AMEN!!
It's amazing how Todrick made a movie about racism and gay which are the two main reasons why people are discriminating against each other
OMG EDGES: SNATCHED
DAD: CAME BACK
DYSLEXIA: CURED
WIG: ON WORLD TOUR
Mondo Maraj omg lol!
If this doesn’t win any awards I will be seriously disappointed. This was incredible and it’s too good to not get recognition
Donna Mixon worded it best. Even when making or saying something along almost identical lines I'd about never dare to put it in a comment section tho.
todrick in my opinion is one of the most underrated artists of our time. this is truly remarkable to be produced, let alone in the time he accomplished it in. he and his team are truly breathtaking and i’m just at a loss of words this is truly art
Jillian Samples couldn't have said this better myself
Amen bro
my wig is on Mars right now ...
This is just perfection
😂❤😂❤
I was looking for this comment!
Wesley Sales my wig isnt in the universe
Gabriel Dragon everytime Todrick release something I say: shut up and take my WIG

Brandy though??!!!!!!!!!!!! Like WHOA! THAT IS THE VOICE!
Chrisante Henderson Right
holy shit i just noticed novyart street where the shooting takes place (25:59) backwards is trayvon st....aka trayvon martin...todrick really thinks of every little detail holy shit
Its a little late, but nacirema is american backwards. The flags also have the opposite colors
Brandi is still one of the most beautiful and talented queens to grace the vocal world.
Todrick is so unique in many ways.
How he incorporated racism, police brutality and hatred due to one's sexuality in such a masterful way is iconic.
Matter of fact the words iconic would be an insult to him he's legendary and deserves way more for his masterful work.
Why isn't this trending this is literal art
WAIT IS THE REPORTER BOB THE DRAG QUEEN
First off. JIIIIIIINNNNYYY HYUNG and second off. THAT PIC WORKS SO WELL WITH YOUR COMMENT
ARMY
I see you ARMY ;)
Yes.
This NEEDS to be on Broadway right NOW
animenerd 123 I said the same thing
animenerd 123 it's on tour
The societal comments and alternate universe really draws attention to the things wrong with our country historically as well as challenges we are facing now with the treatment of race, gender, and sexuality. Well done Todrick, this is a masterpiece.
"Omg he was so privileged a gay black man why he want to mess it up."
- Nacriema citizen
"OMG he was so privileged a white straight man why he want to mess it up."
-American citizen
Nacirema is actually American backwards
@@jemimaryan845 that’s what Nikki was stating. The two statements mirrored each other just as the people people quoted.
"I got a big, fat, black...
"Card."
Unknown Sylveon right?!?! I loved that part 😂😂😂😂
BaddieTwinz TV and Jadenovah is Bi.... love the representation!
BaddieTwinz TV boy thx for explaining I didn’t really get it
Yes hopefully people will see how absurd it really is to hate gay vs straight vs black vs white
I just watched ordinary day for like the 20th time and just notice that there are no white people in the neighborhood thank you for pointing that part out
thank you. i thought thats was it was at first. then i got confused. its good my 1st thought was right
Brandy!!!!!! That song "Lullaby" was beautiful.. Lovin' every bit of this, I can't take it!! 💜💙💜💙 Totally glad I clicked on this #GetItTodrick!!!!
Todrick Hall made his own Lemonade! Yes sir!
AGAIN
I am not sure if Oz was personally as musically defining as Forbidden. Both are magnificent in their own right
Makes me made that more people don't know about this... Todrick clearly put HIS WHOLE LIFE into this and it needs to be recognized like damn. People need to stop giving into the crappy UA-camrs AND WATCH THESE VIDEOS. This is truly amazing and it's changing my life.
Liv Living Couldn’t have said it better!! 👏🏽
Truly believe this is something that won't be fully appreciated or recognized in history until later years like so many others.
Yoo
he has been on Broadway but I agree he needs his own show.
Marques Bell I know that’s right, this NEEDS to be On Broadway or Off either way it needs to be seen.
Brandys voice I mean honestly is a gift!
*BREAKING NEWS:*
Wigs across the world have been reported missing. It is said that Todrick Hall's new visual album, Forbidden, shook viewers so much that many of their wigs have flown away. If you happen to come across any of the missing wigs please bring them to authorities as soon as possible.
Sophie B this!!!!! 😍 😍 😍

“You can try to clip my wings but I will fly on the ground gravity won’t hold me down’
Best line in the entire album
Can you do a video going through all of the symbolism you put in? (Like the small Easter eggs) I just love hearing about all the small details you went to the effort of incorporating x
THIS BRANDY VISUAL???? Y'ALL DID THAT!!!! CHILLS!!!!!!!
Todrick Hall is the new musical GENIUS. I propose Straight Outta OZ and now Forbidden go on Broadway ASAP. These totally deserve to be on the stage.
Todrick’s talent is way too under appreciated! I know of no group or individual that has all the musical skill this man has!
It was an honor to be involved in this! WE LOVE YOU TODDYROCKSTAR❤️
Me before video- Why is it so long
Me after Video- No!!! Why is it over, I need more!
They should make the black picket fence a real book (like if you agree)
That's kinda watch Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman is about, minus the sexuality issue
ok but thug was THEE sexiest thing i’ve ever seen
eli hauser His name is Tré Melvin
GID3ON B. I fuckinnnnn knew it 👏🏽👏🏽
eli hauser yes me too omg
I also peeped suki Lee @the_merman_yari on insta
Tre is gorgeous.
Emy Pierre-Louis me too. Cried at two spots. It's fricken phenomenal!
Emy Pierre-Louis Preach 🙌
Brandy took my whole heart. Omg. 😫😫😭😭

I love that song
I have literally no words, I laughed, I cried, I danced, I sang. Absolutely amazing. Speechless. Todrick deserves everything good that's coming to him, he is nothing but raw talent and a beautiful heart and soul. Not to mention handsome. Bravo
You've outdone yourself Todrick.
Tamar Chronicles agreed ❤️
I like how when the guy was singing “ordinary day” it represented how officers are killing black men and just going on with their lives hence “ordinary day “. And I also liked how at the end someone was literally sweeping “it” under the rug. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
right...forgetting about the actual facts of life here but whatever.
@jabzilla
What actual facts? Please, if you will elaborate.
@@jabzilla21 Do you ever not complain? xD
@@bbprime5017 it get swept by made up (lies ) justification

exactly!
YES HAHA. I WAS SOBBING
Which scene?
And am I the only one to notice that the white woman has a "black" voice while the black singer has a "white" voice, their applause refers to their real world appreciation?? Like black voice isn't appreciated cause it is black and vice versa
Angel_aua I was thinking it was because that the soulful sound that black people have is rooted in oppression (slavery) so because black people aren't oppressed in Nacirema it made us lose that soul.
Deyoncé W probably, so the white woman has the sound of oppression now
That's a really neat idea! thank you
Braaaaaaaannnnndyyy. I screamed when I heard her voice. She is everything to me
He is a STORYTELLER!🔥
It's almost been a year and I am still in love with this. Incredibly moving and powerful
Could we force every homophobic, sexist, racist, anythingist to watch this and show them what outcasts feel like?

I can’t even deal with your level of talent, Todrick. Is there anything you CAN’T do or that you’re NOT amazing at??!!? I love everything about this! You are a true visionary and I absolute love your music, your voice, the cinematography, etc. I can’t believe the quality of work you spoil us with on UA-cam. Your masterpieces need to be on a tv/movie screen somewhere. Every thing you do has such a caliber of professionalism that is unparalleled by any performer we’ve seen in years. Loved the bonus cameos that we were graced with in this video. Also as a side, completely superficial note, you are so gorgeous and I would watch you paint walls 😂 Pretty sure I said this already, but you are so amazing and the world of entertainment is better and forever changed because you’re in it. Thank you for all that you do. I hope one day to see you on tour. I am commenting only a few minutes in so I’m sure I’ll have more to add; please don’t hate me 😂 I doubt you’ll get to read this in the sea of comments anyway. Todrick you have moved me to my core. I cried when they hung Nolon. You are a super genius and I know that a lot of the songs and choreography in these videos are your work. You are so so gifted. I adore your work. As a white, hetero woman of over 50, you might think I might not be in your normal demographic but I say sod that!. I may not be black and I may not be a gay person, but I can celebrate with you and tell you that you are perfect as God made you. God bless you and all your brothers and sisters.
Oh my god. 'Step on no pets' backwards is 'Step on no pets'. Todrick pays attention to every little thing. 💜
Wowwwww
A lot of the names were palindromes too, like Nolon Renner and Elle
That was seriously outstanding. This needs a Grammy or Emmy. This is seriously amazing
I just wanna say a couple things 1st this is beautiful

Me tooooo ahhhhhhh
This made me actually cry (and i hardly cry) because of how true it is. He has taken the reality of society and flipped it and i applaud todrick for that. This made me have an even deeper respect for todrick and made me think about how horrible the world can be. People will probably not care about me and my opinion on this but oh well. Todrick probably wont see this but i wanted to say thank you for raising awareness for all the hate in this world in such a brilliant way and you are my number one inspriation. Im sorry if this was cheesy or long but who cares anyway x
