Factorio Is Excellent - Should You Play?

- Factorio never particularly struck me as a game I’d be too interested in. Boy was I wrong.
In this video I'll talk about what initially drew me in, what kept me playing and how Factorio deserves it's #2 rank on Steam for top rated games.

This is a really great review, thank you
Oh wow thanks, glad you liked it. Thanks for the game!
Omg the devs!
Hi devs!
Factorio I have cracked it since version 12 and I was going to buy but the price was weird 20$ on site 20€steam and I got only 20$ on steam it's like 16€
Stalker series are like this game and people rarely talk about them.
Must .. stop .. playing. Its 3 am. Just one more product. Damn, the power is dropping.
I feel sad for relating so much to this.
Pffff, just 3 AM? Try 4:30 AM when you have work at 9:30 the next morning.

Best description of factorio.
hahaha, i hate bugs, i take personal offense that they dare exist near "MY" base, just saying.

you have OCD? buy this game. Want OCD? buy this game.
LMFAO yes exactly
If you have some insane (true) OCD, you WILL go crazy.
Stups Seriously I can't play it. I enjoy it but when I play it I waste half a day and I cannot afford it.
Jerold Productions well you dont have to optimize everything. And just play for fun, i find it rather calming
Stups I don't it's a stressful amazing game
Love Factorio. It is single-handedly the best game purchase I have ever made. Hundreds of hours in and still playing it alone and co-op. The modding scene is insane as well.
Opy totaly agree
Bought this a week ago, its consuming my life
Daniel Marks GOOD Boy build more
It might be the best value for money purchase you've ever made, but it might be one of the dumbest decision you've made in your life xD. I'm genuinely terrified of getting into this game, it looks awesome, but having no impulse control it will ruin my life.
Buy it anyway, its so fun@@Lorkisen
Gotta press alt
I use alt when i need to find something, i rather keep it off generally

It's always interesting seeing new players bases. Spaghetti everywhere
To be fair compared to some starter bases this guys is pretty well made.
Mine is spaghetti haven
my base have 500 hours on first map, and still haven't deleted starting point base, i want to do it, but there is always more urgent things to do :) And my FPS is below 20 (10GW), will play until i can't...i mean until my PC can't. Then its new map.
I once saw a new player successfully base his entire factory off of one belt , which carried everything in his factory (all ores and smelted ores, gears, potions, etc.) somehow he managed to get all the way to blue science.
+Michael May that.. is impressive.
Great review. Glad to see you gave Factorio a go.
Very good review! Coming from a hardcore 90s gamer: Factorio has become my favorite game of all time. Surpassing any classic or modern title, at least for me. I did everything in my 1200+ hrs. All achievements, multiplayer megabasses, lots and lots of mods. And still, I keep returning to it. It's such a repeatable and satisfying game.
Must... contain... factory design... criticisms...
When I typed out what was supposed to be a few lines of advocacy for the game that turned into a short review in your news video, I didn't even consider the general atmosphere of the game to be a selling point. I don't morally condemn the actions of the player, but the themes are pretty fascinating.
The unified alien mind's attempts at excising the blight of industry from the surface of the planet somewhat evokes memories of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, which is something that can never be a negative thing.
The way isolation and external threat are handled feels really nice as well. In minecraft or something you're able to place down something that will keep a single border safe indefinitely. The way you're constantly having to expand operations, defend them, supply the defenses and thus expand again is pretty unique. You're pretty damn safe in the middle of your factory. But if you rest on your laurels the ammunition plant will run out of input, or the turbines powering your laser turrets will slow. So in a game where you can absolutely make an impenetrable fortress, you still never lose sight of the necessity of braving the hostile environment always lurking just outside your walls.
Hell you can even see it as commentary regarding the co-dependence between mankind and their tools. Without us they wouldn't exist, and we in turn can't imagine existence without them.
It has replaced minecraft for the "Digital Crack" award.
You didn't mention one of the biggest selling points: Mods
The entire game is completely moddable and has amazing support for it. So if you don't like a part of it: Go change it!
You did a great job at selling the idea of this game, I really struggle to convince people of its appeal, I have no friends who are willing to play it, they watch a 10min gameplay and think it looks boring. It's a shame, many people will never know the satisfaction and sense of achievement you can get from this game, I completely agree with the story aspect, I want more.
Gareth Lloyd I want to get it, but I don’t have really any friends who play anything on pc
You know there is a free Demo Version on the Website? Maybe that will help.
@@liam641 You don't need friends. There are plenty of public Multiplayer servers, and the game is still a blast solo, especially while you're learning the basics. Buy it, trust me. I was in the same boat as the guy in this video, in that it didn't seem like my kind of game. Well....1000+ hours later, it turns out it IS my kind of game.
Factorio is definitely one of my most treasured games of all time, and doubles as one of my fears, as this game seems to be nothing short of a time machine. I strongly recommend having a highly visible digital clock next to you in order to not lose track of time-- there is always those few things that you want to attend to, and those spiral from what pose as 5 minute activities to several-hour-long affairs. Becoming austerely addicted does not happen to everyone, but it should be considered as a possibility, as many other players may tell you. I, for one, racked up nearly 500 hours in my first month before I seriously started to grit my teeth and wean myself off the so-called Cracktorio.
The addictiveness of Factorio is sourced from its great composition and replayability. The centerpiece of the entire affair, the factory, caters to a wide range of build styles. To put this into context, the extremes of the spectrum has the player who does virtually no planning and just does whatever seems most immediately convenient as he/she progresses on one end, with the player who strives ceaselessly for the most efficient factory possible on the other end. Those who pick up the game can use whatever aspects of those extremes to whatever extents they wish. The game additionally offers further playstyle customizations with many game generation settings, as well as active native support for mods, a rabbit hole too deep to touch carelessly.
Another source of the game's replayability lies in countless different nuances that you learn of while experiencing the game, and they range from merely being slightly obscure optimizations you can make to your factory to difficult to describe "feelings" of how to approach making your factory (though the latter tends to be subjective in what you "feel").
There is so much more that could be discussed, but I fear that I may lose myself in the process.
You should go see a psychiatrist.
Nice review, it is same for me, Just lost in the game :D
I started playing factorio after i came home from work, suddenly i heard the alarm bell go off the next day. Now i dont sleep
Leet Nor Please I've been like this without the need of this game. Now I don't sleep for DAYS.
It is not healthy, i used to play video games as teenager for 48 hours, but body gets ill, in long run you will fuck your body, and pay big money. My strategy is do only 1-3 things in each work day, you can always catch up at weekend.
More than 1000 hours in game, never played the campaign.
The campaign is shit anyways
The campaign is more of a turorial and it helps a lot if you're new
2700 hours and still havent played campaign
I honestly didn't know there was one
tried to play a campaign, accidentally spend 20 hours on second map, at this point i figured that i better off to sandbox or i won't see the light of day for far too long.
6:03 Jumps into a moving train. Love it.
1 minute and 30 seconds in and I already knew I would like the game, nice vid straight to the point.
I've been gaming for over 35 years, starting with the Commodore 64. I have only ever pulled a full all-nighter through to dawn on one game, and that was with Factorio. It is just sooooooo addictive.
By far this review has made up my mind to “bite the bullet” and buy it. Thank you sir.
Little update - I’ve since purchased the game because of this review. I can say it is a great game. Lots of fun and a great brain challenge. To think it’s still being built upon is amazing. Knowing there’s more to come is really cool. Great game. Great review. ❤️
Does your family miss hearing from you?
Great Video! Fyi, the devs are now working on perfecting the campaign, they won't necessarily make it longer but they want to make it more intuitive. I think that is another reason Factorio is so well rated. The devs care about every single part of the game and try to make everything great.
Scrolled my mousewheel at 0:30 and you zoomed in at exactly the same time, completing the illusion. Well played.
Honestly, factorio is the best game purchase I have ever made. Use to think that was skyrims title until I got factorio. Never have I had so much fun in making huge, laborious, satisfying machines that devour hundreds of tons of material every second and change it into something else. I just love everything about this game, and I love how you can make factories that look like computer chips with all the belts and machines and all that.
Truely, if I had known how much I was going to love factorio, I would've paid well over $20 for it. I love it so much.
whiterun city guard yea the same. I have eated 700 hrs on skyrim in 4 years but i have spent 700 hrs in months in factorio
Alper Tokcan, same with me. I had about four hundred and something hours on skyrim after a few years. When I got factorio it took me a few months to get to five hundred.

Factorio is one of the best games out there and for me will never die. First day I bought it and played I had 4 hours till I had to sleep for work the next day. I ended up having to take the next day off of work because I accidentally stayed awake for around 8 hours not realizing I was on for that long...
Clorox Bleach nooormal 😂
I played 10 hours thinking it was 2 hours untill my alarm started.
I know! It's scary how this game does that so easily!
A very nice and unique "preview" of the game! I love playing Factorio but it takes all my spare time. You start at 10 pm and the next thing you see it's 3 am and you have the feeling that you need just that 5 more minutes before you can quit :D
hmm this looks like a cool game.......................
5 days later.........
welp ive allready put 527 hours into this game time to play some more factorio
RobertsE 5 days is about 120 hrs so...
i can bend time and space
Alper Tokcan wow you're so intelligent
True Factorio players play for 100 hours every day!
@@someweeb3650 this is actually possible to do. clocking in say 20hrs on 5 computers on the same day for a total of 100 hours. Plus the player still has 4hrs left on his day. ALAKAZAM time has been bent
already a Factorio fan... I like what you say about this game, it's exactly how I feel about it. Nice video !
This was a very well thought out review and I am glad you looked at the campaign as part of it. Also I was about to click off to another video when you said your name at the end and it kinda shocked me as we share a name.
This game will cost me lots of sleep... just bought it and will start tonight... nice video!
Played when the game first came out,
in its early stage, still come back to it for a few hundreds of hours
every year... i.love.it
grew up with this game ;)
“...when 1.0 releases in a few months”
Developers: “0.9 goes 0.10 brrrrr”
August 14th, 2020, we have finally arrived lol, and it is amazing.
You are alone only until you play MP. The campaign should be continued cause right now its very bare bones.
Oh and don't even get me started on the logic circuits! Programmable lights, or automatched switching on/off of oil cracking, etc. Self replicating minefields with construction bots.
and multi purpose smelting columns.
There's a guy that made a video player with lights in factorio play darude sandstorm
My favorite thing to do with circuits is to play ten 'research finished' sounds at the same time with global playback on
Nice video. For me what hooked me the most is the music ambiance... i've even bought the sound track and I put it to go to sleep... it makes my brain go in another dimension.
Ju Berry it makes me wanna play more factorio
i got this game a few years ago, and its been a great game since day one. its great to see the new additions thaat the developers add to the game, and i would recommend it to anyone.
A well thought out and put together video!
first of your vids, I have seen,.. subscribed,..nice job.
"I liked how you took a different approach to this review."
I've played over 700 hours on one sand box base. After a while your base becomes like a life form all it's own sort of like a cell.
Some kind soul from Reddit gifted me the game yesterday on steam and I'm so excited to be able to finally play this !
Still second highest raised on steam
MOST SATISFYING GAME IVE EVER PLAYED
ESPECIALLY WITH MODDING
Remember buying this game off of their website a long time ago. I had so much time played on those versions. I have 1000+ hours in the steam version. I would say that even with that much time I still have much to learn. It is a game I couldn't rate any higher. If you don't have it, buy it.
watched your video, and finally bought the game thats been on my steam wishlist ooh so long, "makers of factorio have a no sale policy"!!! If only i'd known before!! :D
Been playing this for years. I'm over 600 hours. This is the best review I have seen.
This is a great review of the game. In terms of hours spent playing versus the cost, it is well worth the money. One aspect the video does not touch on is the amount of mods that are available to add even more dimensions to the game play. There are also plenty of UA-cam channels devoted to game play so any answer you need can be found in a few minutes. I hope you decide to play this game and you will understand what it really means for time to fly by.
Took way too long to pick this up. One of the upsides of quarantine giving these gems a try.
2:25 That resource defense design is literally me on the first run, lol.
Thanks for this video, always wanted to see this game!
Great review. You made me find a new game!
for all who want to get into factorio, as beginner, try watch lets plays, and do just as they do, build the same things, the same places.
Thats how i started, and today i got more than 1000 hours in the game.
And compleate all achievements, which for me seem unreal at the beginning.
While yes, you should look up lets plays, Etc. You shouldn't copy other peoples designs (In my opinion at least), it leads to a players lack of creativity and critical thinking which is so valued in this game.
Another good thing about this game is the Developers are extremely active with the community doing weekly Friday messages. For an Early access game this is simply fantastic knowing the developers are actively working on improving the game and it won't be abandonware.
Multiplayer has it's particular fun.
Right now I tend to be the one chasing resource production because everyone else just wants to rush to late
game stuff and huge output buses despite the numbers not being close to there yet.
So they're chasing burners or upgrades wondering why there's not moar metal for heavy factory layouts, meanwhile the miners are barely even churning because both the power production and coal is running out.
It's also fun when people insist on super-packing miners, when those pick up everything from all the surrounding blue tiles prior to placing. Over-complicates when it's not really that necessary, and you have a big enough deposit with the yield needed to cover production. Those other layouts are a lot slower to put down until you've got at least modular armor with a roboport and bots running to place them, and the slight bump in production due to density only makes sense later in the game anyways.
Another odd thing is some people specifically insist on centralized production. (Fortunately it's not too often. They seem on the more extreme end of OCD.) A bit of a PITA when you're working out in Timbuktu, and need to throw burners and a few factories at a nearby deposit just so you're not wasting most of the time running for parts and materials. And then they come dancing along and picking up those things you needed nearby. (Admittedly one could use a car as a portable chest. But the annoying hair-off steering thing just means you're not able to stay in a straight line to avoid trees despite having established paths.)
Admittedly I have my faults too. I kind of derp out on ratios (prefer to get some things running and sort it out later), and tend not to use blueprints unless I understand what the hell is going on in them. Some might consider that a problem when you're still much closer to the noob end of the players out there.
And despite all that, multi has it's own particular attraction. I guess it's teaming up to go raise some hell among the biter nests, or having people take care of different things that they prefer doing.
Thank you for your information about the price rise!
I also love factorio in particular PvP which I play regularly with friends. In PvP not only must you build large factories but you must also be extremely compact and efficient as well as invest in a lot more combat assets than you normally would. The fear of an attack at any moment can leave you sitting up on edge, all your hard work can be destroyed with just a few well placed grenades if they break through your defenses. Factorio isn't just a good game, it is one of my favorite of all time.
Ok Republic. 1.0 is out. Time to make a remastered video, just like the trailer was remastered *thumbs up*
Awesome you’re covering Factorio. I was curious of this game, but was wary of being in Early Access for so long. I’ll wait for your review whether or not to finally purchase
The game is pretty much complete, it has been for a couple of years now. The devs just keep polishing/perfecting it.
"Early access" for the devs essentially means not 100% perfect, it's ridiculously well made and early access isn't even notable when playing.
It's already better than nearly all 'complete' experiences as it is now, and it continues to improve. That's the standard I apply to an Early Access title; is it worth the price, literally at this instant? If so, grab it, and if it gets even better, then all the better.
This game is "Early Access" in the sense that it still doesn't perfectly reflect the vision of the devs (at least they think so) and can still be polished.
It isn't "Early Access" in the sense that it would be an incomplete and limited experience that would leave you unsatisfied as can attest the tons of players that have been playing it for thousands (!!) of hours.
It isn't "Early Access" because of bugs either, the "stable" version are incredibly solid for games, many many "finished" AAA or indie games are bug riddled pieces of crap compared to Factorio.
I would say it only stayed in Early Access because of the devs perfectionism, they could have labelled the 0.12 version as 1.0 years ago without shame compared to most other games.
It's going to stay in Early Access until they get the fluid dynamics fixed, which they have tried many times but have not gotten it to work the way they want it too. (the key point here is "the way 'THEY' want it too.")
Great review man
If you like complex system. Try Hardcrafting mod. It add even more refining steps with basic ores, stones, oils. I use that mod all the time.
Great review, Well explained
I'm itching so badly to play this game. It looks extremely awesome.
Scratch the itch!
Great review!
Convincing your friends to get it and then playing with them let’s you know who your real friends are
If you aren't scared of Factorio, you're doing it wrong
I can say that getting tgis game now will be at your best interest. The devs are shooting to make the base game solid and bug free before release. The devs love their modded community and if there is something not in the base game someone has a mod for it. Want more complexity? Theres a mod for that. Want to go to space after your first rocket launch? Theres a mod for that. I will love this game forever. Bought 10 months ago and have 960 hours, and still love it!
I just wanna say, that the game gets INSANELY more interesting with mods. Industrial revolution makes the game more challenging, since you have to take care of your defense much more, since the pollution is higher. You have to redesign stuff, as you progress through the ages, starting with just tin and copper. Other mods add a huge amount of content. One could say they make the game more complex, but for me they just make the game much more diverse and give me new stuff to discover, once I have figured out all the stuff. They aren't just new maps or small changes either, but offer basically a completely new experience. Often you hear people say 'Ah I wish I could play game xyz as a new player who never played it before'. In factory with different mods you get exactly this feeling. Imagine playing Pokemon for the first time. Every new pokemon game will cost you a lot of money, and while the core mechanics are the same, you have a new game experience.
Factorio Mods feel like the same to me. They offer a completely new experience, yet here you don't have to pay a thing for them.
Truly said..this one of those "wow" games, great review!
1.0 is out! Waiting for the Review
Nice work, great review for a great game. Its a game that will always leave you wanting to spend more time playing and Factorio will devour all time spent in and out side of it as your mind constantly goes over things you want and need to do even thinking of how to make things function better when already things function well. Dreams of gears and other components are a given and before you know it you'll be left satisfied the game you purchased not only gives you so much fun and satisfaction but is a game you will return to with little to no problems when taking breaks from it.
I have this game since Alpha and since then it had more content then most final released games and with the addition of mods this game gets overwhelming hard but my god is it satisfying.
Factorio cured my Depression 😊
which goes to show that depression almost equal lack of engagement
Vlad Kostin for me nur Not for everybody
I will try it now. Thank you.
This game should win a award in best management game of all time
4:50 sums it up really well
JUST BUY IT..... :)
the game is huge on its own, and ON TOP OF THAT it has one of the best mod support EVER!
Once you get the hang of the base game you can go the mod route with Bob's mods and then Angels and then Angel+bob's, getting a base that is tidy and not Spaghetti. Really is a game you can go basic or Circuit networks and complex over 800 hours playing this and I still have fun
a very apt review. my only comment is that the game has more of a diesel punk asthetic than steampunk
Yes I would definitely recommend playing this game and I am going to get it sometime soon
I have been involved since the first round of beta, over 300 hrs into the game, and have yet to launch a single rocket as i keep restarting my worlds and get better and better at my builds. the only thing i can say is either you will love factorio, or you will absolutely despise it..i would strong suggest giving it a shot, and even if you dont like it, $30 is less than a night at the movies these days
Also, free demo is available.
Me too, I keep restarting games or generating new maps because I like the building phase and trying to do things better. That said, my current game is the biggest base I've made and I'm up to about 50 satellites launched, trying to scale up to "mega-base". Still a long way to go because I don't use other people's designs. Designing your own stuff is half the fun.
nice review
It is now 1.0 two months already, where is that other review?
This sat in my wishlist for so long. I was bored one night, decided to bite the bullet, cause Steam has a good refund policy if you don't like a game. Nearly 100 hours later, I have a love/hate relationship with it. What I love about it is the constant optimisation of your processes, and just watching everything come together. Alas, that is what I also hate about it, as I spend so much time with my character stood still, while I rack my brain trying to figure out how the buggery to get everything where it needs to be.
This game is crack in a digital form. But I love it, and forsee hundreds more hours of sitting around scratching my head.
One minute you’re just going to make some adjustments to your unloading station and the next minute it’s 2am and you’ve redesigned the entire rail network
So interesting to see a new players take on the game, no old habits or yet indoctrinated into the main bus. Fresh ideas and a well built base.
"the departure from early access in a few months". That was funny back in 2018, it still is, even though we now *do* have a (totally absolute surely certainly no-ifs-ands-or-buts-about-it fixed) release date. Next year. In September.
Your right, this game is life-consuming.
And I *love* it.
You think the base game has diversity and content? Try adding some mods like Bob's and Angel's and I think you may flip.
Boy, with normal resources and not in peaceful mode, I haven't dropped under 30 hours for launching a rocket.. every time one resource has to be miles away or in small quantities :'(
After playing 300 hours of Bob's, I can't even look at the vanilla game anymore. Don't DO IT. SAVE YOUR SOUL
Did they add some kind of story mode? I've played a couple of times and I don't remember any other bases, its possible I was just playing some sandbox version?
Nice time machine. I started playing at 10 pm. Looked at my watch 20 minutes after - it was 1 am.
I like that you are promoting this game. But I can tell you still have much to learn. Good Luck on marathon death rail world.
Godd luck on a Modded Marathon DeathRailWorld with BoB, Angel, SpaceX, Natural Evolution and Rampant AI :)
Azarhiel Sombrelame Are you trying to make him kill himself? Cause that's how you make him kill himself. I only got to 0.1 RPM with that combo before I was too scared to open the world again
I'm about 150 hours in and haven't passed blue science yet... It is a bit complicated but with time it will do...
just found this game today and almost immediately knew that i have to play this thing.
when 1.0 comes out in a few months. HA, oh boy :^)
great review tho, well done mr RepublicOfPlay
One of my favorite games of all time
This game is amazing, I just wish I had more time to play it, it is so time consuming although that's kind of down to my play style too... speaking of which make sure to book a CBT therapist before you even start playing, I discovered OCD's I never knew I had hahaha... at first you're fairly satisfied with the way you do things but after a while you start getting picky and start to do things efficiently and in certain manners that will fit better to the over all design of the factory and since your factory is always going to be evolving as you play you have this constant cycle of trying to improve things, it's definitely triggering some vague OCD's I seem to have and driving me up the wall when I can't figure out a way to do something to my satisfaction.
For me Factorio is the game everyone should play why first its relaxing there is a lot of mods and blueprints to use or to make something that you didnt create and second is that it takes some time to get all the stuff even with mods but some people just play it in creative i play it in survival just to learn basics the hard way not the easy way like cheating so i recommend you play this game its awesome you can even get it on steam or if you cant buy it you can find it on internet
This game is awsome ! The music is so deep.
One of the most amazing games I've played.
Factorio is the type of game which you can start again and it will be different as your old factory design won’t work on a different map with different ore layouts
I really want to see an in-depth review of this game. It seems amazing and I LOVE to make that kind of self-sustainable architecture, but I want to know what kind of endgame stuff I can build to seal the deal.
I think the main point is to make a rocket to get out of the planet but I've read without spoiling myself that the real end game is something else entirely. Mind you, this is speculation since I havent played it myself but its been in my steam library for quite some time now
even without you knowing what the end game is, the journey there is enough.
This game also has a large active modding community already with a few massive overhaul mods.
Placing an massive blueprint and watching the robot army to build it in 30 seconds is amazing. Also if you are into mods you can get recursive blueprints and automate the building process itself. When you fire off the first rocket it says it ended. But it is far from that. Next goal is increasing the speed of production to send more rockets. There are builds that can send 1 rockets per minute out there my current is able to send one in 45 minutes. Compare that
The factory must grow
AHHHHHHH fix your car!!!! AHHHHH. Love this game and I'm glad you enjoy it. For those who don't have it... get it!
try the demo, that should be enough to see if you like it or not. oh, make sure you have at least 2 or 3 days free before buying it.
