I've been using LF for over three years now and love it. If I was with FCP that means I'd have paid $150 so far and for the little extras it gives and how niche some of those extras are, I'll stick with LF.
I use LumaFusion since its inception. And will remain a LumaFusion user for the following reasons: 1. One time fee. No annual subscriptions. 2. Edit thru external drive eliminate the need for huge data storage on iPad is a huge plus. 3. Multi cam is super easy to sync and edit. 4. Multiple scopes make color grading a breeze.
Logical response. The payment is a big deal for me. Not that I can't afford $5 a month, but why when I can pay $30 one time for life? Makes no sense. I got lumafusion for $20 when it came to android. No more costs
Great video, I’ve been using LumaFusion since it came out and have been using Final Cut Pro on my Mac for easily over a decade. For those who don’t know, Lumafusion has an in app purchase that lets you export xlm files and import them into FCP for the desktop which works pretty well, it’s not 100% when it comes to blend modes but the cuts are all there. I think one of the biggest differences not mentioned in your video is that Lumafusion also works on the IPhone, which was never a big deal for me until it was. I’m not a big fan on using my IPhone for editing video but I was in a situation where I HAD to edit and upload some footage for a client at the last minute and I was able to do it using Lumafusion on my IPhone, it felt very cramped but I was still able to get it done. I’m going to sit Final Cut Pro for the IPad out for now until I can edit from my external T7 hard drive like I can with Lumafusion
I tried Lumafusion when I got my iPad Pro and was quite impressed. However, since I was already invested in Davinci Resolve on desktop (I purchased the Studio version and also the Speed Editor), it made sense for me to jump ship to Davinci on iOS too. I’m certain it will be updated before very long to (officially) show all the pages, and the ease of going back and forth between platforms in the editing process makes it a no-brainer here. Thanks for the video.
As an occasional personal vlogger Lumafusion has been my editor for ever. But I was interested to see your comparison since FCP has such a status amongst pros.
Thank you so much for all the research and work you must have put into this tutorial. Your hard work is very much appreciated (especially in Scotland where we all LOVE you!).
I owe so much to LumaFusion. I’ve been using it for a few years. But I learned so much new stuff from your video. I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up using both. Starting in luma and finishing in Final Cut. Great video!
I actually use LumaFusion for my video edits! I paid for LumaFusion as well so I’m sure there are features on that particular software that Final Cut Pro doesn’t have since it’s a monthly subscription! So I’m sticking with LumaFusion
Awesome video! I was a lumafusion junkie and I still use it from time to time. But when Davinci Resolve launched 18.5 beta I jumped ship. I loved final cut on the mac but I think Davinci is better. And no, I’m not paying a subscription when Lumafusion and Davinci on the iPad are both better.
great video thanks! For me the biggest selling point for FCP is the draw feature and it's the first editing software which i really enjoy using. I'm now looking forward to editing a video and thats all that matters to me at the moment :)
Nice video. It’s Lumafusion for me. I have an iPad Air 4 so Final Cut Pro really isn’t an option. My editing needs are basic. Lumafusion works so well for me, also I don’t have a ton of space on my iPad so I love the fact that I can edit from an SSD or network drive. The tool is easy to use and I’m always happy with the results of my edits.
I love how easy it is to use LF. I love the double click to jump to front or back and how easy it is to glide from one clip to the next. I’m finding FCP is harder to maneuver, even with the jog wheel. But LF constantly shuts down or the audio doesn’t sync with the clip. It’s frustrating!
Thanks for the comparison. Even though I have the iPad Pro, Lumafusion wins my vote. Being able to work off an external drive is a huge sell. Plus, I hate subscription models
From I movie any of these will be an upgrade…I don’t like renting software but own them, going for lamination if I get more serious I would look for Final Cut Pro, thank you, you are great!
Thank you for this versus take. I would like to see DaVinci Resolve vs. FCP for iPad. Because I’m learning more about filming and am wanting to learn editing. Based on this video, I would probably switch from LumaFusion to FCP once I upgrade my iPad Mini
Luma Fusion lets you keep and edit all your media on an external sad drive. FCP for iPad does not offer that option at this time. I bought a 4 TB Samsung SSD on Anazon. Also there third party transitions, luts etc you can buy for Luma
DaVinci Resolve! I am a long time FCP user going back to version 3 but with Resolve now on the iPad I’m using both FCP and Resolve, I’ve dropped using Luma Fusion a while back.
Does Final Cut for iPad have a provision for recording voiceovers within the app or do you have to create a workaround? If it’s not available what workaround works well? Thank you for your videos, you are a big help for me!
Hi Jenn, Great comparison. I'd like to add a frustration with audio, I found during Multicam, which is how each uses it. In LumaFusion, I can designate which track is the audio, on the top of the Multicam synchronizer box. Then, as you edit through on the Switcher, the audio stays seamlessly on just one track. In FCP for iPad, each selection of angles, clips the audio, and there is not a way to detach audio, yet. I actually can hear the cuts in my audio, when the angles change, even though I'm 'soloing' a track. I'm hoping that will change with future updates. LumaFusion also allows for up to 6 different camera angles to be used, and FCP for iPad, only 4 (so far). I totally agree with you when it comes to titles, as I've always found issues with LumaFusion having such simplistic titles. I have learned how to edit by key-framing, but, what a pain! Again, great job, and thank you for doing the dirty work for us!
So far I’ve been disappointed in the iPad version. I bought a new iPad just for this and it hasn’t been worth it. The lack of plugins so far makes it unusable to me. Lumafusion letting me build and safe presets has always been good. I call it FIRST CUT PRO, so far it’s only good for a rough cut. The titles stink. I’ll keep using FCPX on my Mac and Lumafusion on my iPad. Using the xml export to FCPX its a perfect duo. Great comparison and review.

Easily FCP it has better interface plus other advanced features I be going with FCP just keep lumafusion edit on my phone but lumafusion going have to really get more new advanced features I don’t think they will be able to compete with Apple especially with new updates unfortunately for lumafusion they going be left way behind how will they be able to also compete with Apple budget and engineers FCP just seem a lot more easier and fun way to edit
Any subscription service is an automatic showstopper for casual video editing. Unless you are spending many hours every week editing videos and using all of the advanced features it is not worth the extra cost for a subscription service.

However, I have just upgraded to the latest iPad Pro 12.9” and am wondering if I should give Final Cut Pro a shot. Good stuff, thanks for the breakdown! I’ve been using LumaFusion for years and have a certain amount of loyalty to it…but it really does seem like it is only a matter of time before FCP is the undeniable winner.
Price wise for almost the same capability? I don't see how you come to that conclusion. You can do almost the same exact thing on both, and lumafusion is available on any device. I'd rather pay $30 one time than $40 a year. Apple loves to nickel and dime
I wouldn't count on SSD edtiting coming to FCP anytime soon. Apple has an incentive to sell higher storage tiers of their iPads. Stabilisation may come (currently available on Lumafusion and even better on DaVincI), but not SSD editing. The comparison is very nice, but I do hope there will be a video on DaVinci, it's an amazing option on iPad and can be used in tandem with Lumafusion
Apple makes it hard to edit off external drives on FCP on Macs too. They probably won’t put that external drive editing feature on FCP on iPad. The project on that if you do the external drive route on Mac takes up space on that like crazy, run out, you’re buying a new drive every time. I get rid of that problem by using Premiere Pro. They only crappy thing about Premiere Pro is the $20/month subscription fee to Adobe every month to use it. No files ever gets on my Mac as a result and I have a ton of storage on the computer still. LumaFusion runs on Macs now too as long as you have the M1 of newer chip in the system. I used it a few times and it works like it does on iPads. Use a mouse and keyboard instead of touch. No files clogging up storage on the Mac either using it since you can do external drive editing on that.
Excellent comparison. As for me for now I'll just stick to running Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Air. Just as portable as an iPad (and mind you without the need of having to purchase the latest-generation of iPad) and when I need the larger real estate I just connect in to my LG display. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like the simplicity of Final Cut, and the drawing aspect is really nice too. It’s a subscription but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It just means the app will continue getting support
All I know is Lima Fusion sucked with its weird editing strategy. I have the full version but never used it seriously. So hope Final Cut cuts it, but I have an idea that it’s the limitation of iOS and timeline implementation.

Price wise for almost the same capability? I don't see how you come to that conclusion.
You can do almost the same exact thing on both, and lumafusion is available on any device.
I'd rather pay $30 one time than $40 a year.
Apple loves to nickel and dime
Sweet, you got a sub. What should I do did beginner? Have you ever used Foureditors?
I edit off external drives on FCP 100% of the time.
Madam, is it possible to put the Arabic translation on your clips so that we can understand what you are saying, please
Definitely LumaFusion 🎉
As for me all Luma has to do for now is bring good movable titles.
Excellent comparison. As for me for now I'll just stick to running Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Air. Just as portable as an iPad (and mind you without the need of having to purchase the latest-generation of iPad) and when I need the larger real estate I just connect in to my LG display. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
LumaFusion can create 360 vr video , fcp have wheel scroll is good , multi cam
LF or Davinci Resolve. Not another sub.
I like the simplicity of Final Cut, and the drawing aspect is really nice too. It’s a subscription but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It just means the app will continue getting support
Final cut pro is the best , the seamless transitions and no need greenscreen effect shitttt
For ipad is it good im goin to buy ipad for editing i dont have budget for mack currently?
Can’t use anything else for music other that the supplied soundtracks. That’s a biggie for me
That’s not true. You can import your own music.
@@JennJager I’m stumped as to how on an ipad. I have a song on iTunes that you can import on mac but not on ipad. I’ve tried for several hours.
I too would also love how to do this
It’s such a shame that Final Cut is subscription based. I will NEVER get an app subscription.
There is no way to compare LumaFusion is for simple video editing Final Cut Pro is a profesional video editing app
All I know is Lima Fusion sucked with its weird editing strategy. I have the full version but never used it seriously. So hope Final Cut cuts it, but I have an idea that it’s the limitation of iOS and timeline implementation.
LumaFusion because the wallets can't take more subscriptions lol
