Maybe I'm imagining things, but it seemed like the candles burned more quickly when they were blown on but not successfully blown out. Did the rush of oxygen to the base of the flame make them burn hotter? Was melted wax just being blown off of the top of the candles, making them smaller that way?
Butane micro torches work much better for lighting candles, you could probably light 5+ at a time and have the whole thing alight in seconds. Thank you for documenting this research, for the good of the Internet :)
Hey, I know you posted this a long time ago. But I want to let you know that I took your advice and used a butane mini torch to light 61 candles and it was a great success! It took me just seconds! Thank you, random internet stranger! :)
My girlfriend and I just did 33 for mine this evening. That in itself was an ordeal. Didn't get/use a barbecue lighter like those, but melted the tops of two disposable lighters (bic/equivalent) and finished off with a match. The smoke after blowing them out was intense lol
Did you see how the flames of the outer candles were starting to bend inward toward the other candles? That's the sign that they were starting to generate so much heat that they were creating a draft. That is a very dangerous situation because it will very quickly result in a fire that will grow out of control.
