If, anybody ever deserved a Dodge Challenger Mr. Newman does. Chrysler corporation made a lot of money on this car due to his film and still is. I set as a 16-year-old sat and watched this great film that was unappreciated at the time and misunderstood. It was a perfect example of the existential despair that young people felt in the early 70s during the Vietnam era. My boyfriend and later husband to current called me when he received his "Greetings" letter from the draft board and simply said "I am going we need to get married someone should have the insurance I am likely dead. This must be understood to be able to appreciate the effect this film had on young people in that era. Not everyone went to Canada or burned their draft card. Thank you, Mr. Newman, for your work on Television the cinema industry and stage. All the best Ella.
I was 18 when Vanishing Point came out. Kowalski and Super Soul were and are my heroes !! I have been to Cisco Utah and its like a sacred place. Long live Barry Newman and rest in peace Cleavon Little. Mopar To Ya !!
Barry newman made this car the most iconic muscle car. This movie is legendary made me wanting a challenger so bad but could only afford a 67 white camaro since then I am a muscle car addict, later I did indeed find a white 70 Challenger which I will keep as long as I live. Thank you kowalski for that good virus , the best drug ever !
The production of Vanishing Point is astounding! Absolute Masterclass. Saw it in the theater with my family and grew up with it. Visit the locations if you can.
My wife and I just did most of the VP route in our 2020 R/T in May. Not much left but it was still an exciting trip to re-trace the Kowalski journey. The Shell station in Cisco is barely standing but still remains.
I finally bought the blu ray version of this movie. They did a great job. The skies are so blue. And you couldn’t tell in the old versions. The overall colors are brilliant for such a bleak landscape.
first saw Vanishing Point on Speedvision's Lost Drive Inn. loved it so much that I recorded it on vhs, then later bought it on dvd, and I have the soundtrack somewhere.
Barry Newman, I would love to meet you in person. I am restoring the exact Vanishing Point Challenger that you have driven. I have it on UA-cam under the name "Nick's Garage" Please check it out. I have many people watching Vanishing Point again and again. My favorite car chase film.
Hey Nick I watch and subscribed to your UA-cam site Nick's garage and it would be great if you could get Barry to come up to Canada to see what you do with cars and engines so he could see the Challenger and sign it for you ! I found a web site that supposedly has famous actors managers and such that you can join to try to get a hold of them for movie rolls or interviews so maybe look to see if it's legit or not to try and see if you could work something out with him to come out to your shop and sign your Challenger and maybe show him some engine Dyno time in the Dyno room lol . Can hardly wait to see next week's Nick's garage episode keep up the great work !
If I was a millionaire I would buy Barry Newman a new white Challenger on one condition. He would have to take delivery in Denver and then we would ride together on a road trip following the original course. And we would have to stop in Cisco, UT.
I remember Barry Newman from Petrocelli when I was a kid. He's one of those guys that you instantly like, but can't explain why. He comes across as absolutely genuine and someone that you'd like to know. I believe that Dodge were mortified when they saw Vanishing Point because of it's "loose morals". Much like Ford with the new Bullitt Mustang (yuk!), they sure forget the past when it comes to making a modern buck! LONG LIVE KOWALSKI - the LAST American Hero!! :@D
To say "Vanishing Point" is dated is silly. It was made in 1971, time passes, live with it. It is a brilliant film. It was then, it is now and it always will be. It is a very poignant film. How can you watch the final scene with them inspecting the upended, burned-out car with Kim Carnes singing, and not have tears. Listen to her words. In , perhaps and unusual way, this film brings me peace.
It's a shame that Barry Newman didn't do much more in films, while he didn't have much dialog in Vanishing Point, everything he did on Broadway and TV was excellent and he received critical acclaim. I don't know whether more parts were offered to him or if he just wasn't interested. He is well educated and has a very likable personality.
Dated?!? What a stupid comment. Of course it's dated it's from the 70's, that's what makes it so awesome. The cars, clothes, music.......all signature of an iconic decade.
I would like to get a poster and autograph from Mr. Newman. I got the Utah vanishing point plates and don't live far from cisco...the last shooting of the film vanishing point. People are living there now again.
Barry Newman as Petrocelly (favirite) and funny Kowalsky saw much earlier i saw great action movies with him is there any greater tv or movie star out there? Hardly except from Gregory Peck. Thx from Budapest Hungary On my só called hardrive áll episode of Petrocelly to repeat play. You made some lawyers ín our family.
I have watched it. total crap. horrible acting, questionable driving stunts, and Viggo Mortenson's face looks kinda sunken in. like he was on dope or something.
The movie was dated LMAO it depicted 1970s America, early 70s it was filmed 70-71 it was amazing,, just have the upgraded DVD yea totally better blue skys .. red sand the original seemed washed out
Amazing how the worst audio quality in a video clip -- always has to do with movies and movie folks. I turned this one up all the way -- could still hardly hear it.
Too short I dont know who the other guy is that took most of the spot light but I wanted to hear from Barry not that clown about making the movie well that sucked
I already know Barry is the actor what I said was the other dude talked over him and controlled most of the interview . I didn't want to hear from this clown I wanted to hear from Barry. He couldnt even get a word in edgewise pretty rude

RIP Barry Newman. He passed away just days before our own VP trip in May 2023.

Barry looks great. Cool insight and a classic film in it's genre. Still holds up today.
this was a life changing movie, I still love it.
The production of Vanishing Point is astounding! Absolute Masterclass. Saw it in the theater with my family and grew up with it. Visit the locations if you can.

Long live Barry Newman !! Mopar To Ya !!
Yeah...in 1973 i bought a 1970 Challenger R/T cuz of this movie....i wanted to BE Kowalski!!
I finally bought the blu ray version of this movie. They did a great job. The skies are so blue. And you couldn’t tell in the old versions. The overall colors are brilliant for such a bleak landscape.
Best movie ever. I wore out a vhs tape. Working on wearing out a dvd. It's my no. 1 favorite movie.
Best Wishes to you Barry. From all the petrol heads in New Zealand. No other car chase film is in the same league.100% pure 1971 entertainment.
Bullitt a black dodge charger is a work of art
Dodge needs to give this guy Free Challangers for life . best advertising ever
Dodge is owned by Italy's FIAT GROUP now. Wait -- that was last week?
Vanishing Point is a sick film!! 😎
they should have gave Barry that Dodge Challenger for all that great exposure.
I was waiting for the commercial with him driving it while the song Freedom of Expression plays.
Kowalski lives 👍👍👍
For ever!
Rest in peace, Cleavon, you did great!!!
Seen it over 120 times.
first saw Vanishing Point on Speedvision's Lost Drive Inn. loved it so much that I recorded it on vhs, then later bought it on dvd, and I have the soundtrack somewhere.
It really never gets old does it? Same here...
The ending of the movie is super sharp. It's as if it jumps out of the movie and it cuts you
Classic American Hero. Long Live Kowalski !
Newman looking cool!
Have loved Barry Newman all these years since did Petrocelli. ..xx great series....hope he is doing well xx

if anyone ever notices.... super soul's radio producer in the film is john amos..... james evans from good times....but he's not credited....why ?🤔
great movie barry newman great actor
Love Barry Newman x

My favorite movie

Brilliant analogy of barry newman such a beautiful guy ..so sad we lost him x

Ive seen youtube videos more dated than vanishing point, id dare call that film timeless.
Made me go west for 17 years, and I raised hell in the
Desert and off road and boats on the water.
Dodge wouldn't give him a car for doing a new Challenger commercial??? Unreal!!
Vanishing Point my favourite road movie. Kowalski my hero just wouldn't want him to deliver my car.

I would love to get into a time machine and be out of this total asshole era!
WOW!
Get one of those new Challengers and drive it like you stole it Newman!!!
I would like to get a poster and autograph from Mr. Newman. I got the Utah vanishing point plates and don't live far from cisco...the last shooting of the film vanishing point. People are living there now again.
How about when he was driving a Challger in the TV series. Title was Petrochelli. He was a lawyer. Drove a Challenger in that also.
Really? Where did you get that fake info from? Do a search and you will see it was a pickup truck he drove in the series.
Kowalski's still cool...
Miről is van itt szó?
Ottimo video
there's a typo in the description they called him berry instead of barry???????
The 1997 remake is a total rape of the original cult classic. Please DO NOT watch it!!!
Amen.
I have watched it. total crap. horrible acting, questionable driving stunts, and Viggo Mortenson's face looks kinda sunken in. like he was on dope or something.
I know it's been 4 years, but fuck off. It's a second movie
with a white challenger on screen. Cant go wrong with that.
@1bikesale How are you gonna say some shit like that, when you can't spell "gauge" even though it's right in front of you.
The 2011 remake of Straw Dogs (also from 1971) was another insult of the original that never should of been attempted.
Apparently director Sarafian wanted Gene Hackman for Kowalski but Hackman declined
I've seen vanishing point but I prefer fear is the key even got it on dvd
How many times is Kaminski going to scratch his face?
Anton Bouchette Ha Ha!..I can't believe I'm the first to like your comment.
Could be cause he is nervous
Vanishing Point is a great film. James Dean would have been perfect in that role. The film is in the same vein as Duel and The Hitcher
The real story that this movie is based on is SOOOOO much better. Perfect example of how Hollywood messed up a great story.
Whats cooler than Kowalski?..maybe James Dean..
WTF, Stop scratching your cheek
Too short I dont know who the other guy is that took most of the spot light but I wanted to hear from Barry not that clown about making the movie well that sucked
He was the guy who made the movie. Barry was the actor.
Doug Gurney
I already know Barry is the actor what I said was the other dude talked over him and controlled most of the interview . I didn't want to hear from this clown I wanted to hear from Barry. He couldnt even get a word in edgewise pretty rude
It's Kowalski and the keys to a sawed-off weekend
