I am a college student and I have a 2 year old dog and an 11 week old puppy and getting a puppy is NOT recommended if you dont have 5-6 weeks HOLIDAY or can be at home!!! The puppy need all your attention, comfort, exploring that you have to do! But getting a older shelter dog is better if you are busy but remember the dog can NOT be at home for more than 8 hours alone... You should walk it before work/school, when you come home and in the evening so it is a lot of work! Otherwise having a dog is really what gets me through college because it is so rewarding to always have a study companion, you have to get breaks outside etc and I feel so secure because of the dog when I walk alone, it is lot of cuddles and play
As someone who wants to move into an apartment, I always get so anxious of what to do with my pupper when I do move but this video was super reassuring!
You shouldn't. Dogs and any kind of pet is a big responsibility and it's not a choice to take lightly. Better finish college first, is just a few years compared to the life expectancy of a dog. Also getting your first job (that could be in a new city or country) and trying to push a few years in the market before moving to a more comfy salary, going self-employed or doing postgraduate studies it could take up to 2 extra years to find stability. (having a work/life balance) Owning a dog in this circumstances is not a wise choice.

It's so much more work than even this vlog showed! Thankfully Dory is full grown now, but puppyhood was even more time dedicated to training and running her energy out. Germany is passing a law that your dog has to be exercised 2x a day for at least an hour -- it's making people realize how much these little guys and girls are treated more like accessories than living beings.
Just a small suggestion please use chest leash not neck leash especially for new dog owners because the doggos would be running around and it will not be comfortable for the doggo
Haha it's definitely a lot of work so I understand how people can be so indecisive- as long as you know you can arrange your schedule to fit your dog's needs, and you've saved up enough money to cover both their initial adoption costs/shots and dog food for the future, go for it!! Just make sure you fully understand that it's the end of weekend vacations, sleepovers, and staying gone more than 4-5 hours without checking on your doogo 👍
THIS IS THE REALITY - I have bipolar, and I manically bought a whippet/greyhound puppy .... I have had puppies/dogs before and family dogs so have a lot of experience but I was not prepared for the level of responsibility that a high energy puppy and to do it alone in a 20sqm loft apartment with two cats - my life looks a lot different now... and this is the only video I have actually seent that is legit realistic and useful! So I’m going to college in a few months and I got a 8month old german shepherd, she has been %100 my responsibility since I got her, I’ve recently got my life back together but it hit me how I might not be able to take care of her if I do go. It hurts me that I’m not going to have this much time to take care of her and I’be been thinking about this for a while now and it’s making me depressed
So I searched up this video to find other people in the same situation, this was long enough so you’re probably in college already, and I just wanted to ask how much time you are actually spending with your dog, like how hard is it to manage?
I was looking for something like this and the same breed too I'm going to get a great dane soon but I plan on taking my pup with me to college ...but just trying to plan ahead lol...
I've been wanting a husky for many years now. I am finally old enough to get my own. However every one keep telling me that I shouldn't get one because they need a lot of exercise. It really pisses me off because that the whole reason I want a husky. It also bothers me because they dont think I know the responsibility it takes, but what they don't know Is I have done research on them for over 6 years. The more people tell me not to the more I want to.
I'd definitely try fostering a husky first! At the risk of sounding like 'everyone' I'd have to agree with a lot of the same concerns. Even though you're probably a literary expert on huskies by now, even I was taken aback by the energy level/ stubborness/ recklessness of a young husky, mainly just because they do a lot of damage to you and your home without even knowing. Personally, I couldn't vacuum and sweep my house and run the dog over an hour EVERY DAY, so there's no way I could stay on top of their grooming and exercise needs. But if you have the extra 3-5 hours a day to clean after, exercise, and train one, go for it! Only you can truly gauge what you're ready for :)
@@infamousrae698 I was totally going to foster. There is a husky rescue that I already volunteer with. a lot of there dog they rescue from the area I'll be moving to and they need temporary fosters before they come down. Thanks for this vid! I don’t mean to overstep so you totally don’t have to answer this but I was wondering how you manage to go to college afford an apartment and afford a very large dog and afford all of the expenses with owning a dog and living on your own. I’m afraid that when I go to college I won’t have enough money for rent and those expenses or my dog so I will have to get a full time job. Then it won’t be fair to the dog because he is always at home alone. Love the vid ❤️
Chloe Bartz I was fortunate enough to have parents who agreed to split rent as long as I was working a min. of 18 hrs a week as a full-time student! If you have to pay $1,000+ out of pocket for rent, and work a min wage job, I really wouldn’t advise a dog of this size. It will impact where you can live for the next 10+ years. Dory belongs to both myself and my boyfriend who lived long-distance, but I knew once I was done with school we’d be able to split responsibilities 50/50 when we moved back in together. I’ll be posting an updated vlog this week now that I’ve graduated and moved back to NorCal!

So happy seeing these comments. Me and my boyfriend got a puppy in college. Glad I’m not the only crazy person. I don’t drink or party so have more time and money than others. I missed my dogs so much when I left that I cried everyday. So that convinced my boyfriend to get one haha

My dilemma is not about getting a dog but bringing my family dog with me to college. I’ve already taken care of him for four years I’ve had him but that’s with mom’s help. Now the question is whether I can balance dog responsibilities with school

Dogs that have separation anxiety or aren’t properly tired out will definitely get destructive if bored! Dory is an older dog, so as long as I make sure to exercise her regularly and not leave her for more than 4 hours at a time alone, she keeps herself busy 💕
Until age 2-3 they are actually VERY high energy, especially with Dory considering she's mixed with German Shorthaired Pointer which was literally bred for jumping/hunting birds. She just turned 4, and there has been a notable and very appreciated downshift in her day-to-day energy level. Definitely still needs to be vigorously exercised, but an hour of running actually knocks her out the rest of the day now!
I'm preparing to get a dog maybe next year or two. I'm planning to get my own place and live alone, hence I can adopt a puppy... but I'm very worried since most vids tell u that u must never leave ur dog more than 4 hours. But I guess you can train them to get used to your work time too if we train them early right?
I go to xul at 8 my mom leaves to work at 9 my sister leaves at 12 come back at 3 leave for my class again at 3:30 then my mom comes back by 4:30 ... Can my puppy be kept alone when there's no one? Planning to get a maltese Pomeranian or poodle.. If anyone has knowledge about this please inform me

Is it a struggle to pay for expenses? I have a German Shepherd mix, I graduated high school 4 years ago and am considering going to college. I won't be able to go to school full time and work full time, because I need to care for her. My monthly bills are $1200 and I'm scared I wouldn't be able to make ends meet. 😞
I’d really recommend hitting a dog park and talking to other dog owners, someone always has a great and affordable dog walker they use! It would probably add another $300ish a month but it would allow you to work full time

I have been thinking of adopting a dog for months and my one main worry is not having the dog go to the bathroom in the afternoon when working. I live in an apartment with a balcony but the balcony provides easy access for the dog to go on someone elses property. Any tips?
I am moving out soon to another country to pursue my bachelor's classes, however, I am planning on having my dog and cat sent to me months or a year later, so I am looking for options as leaving my pets behind is a BIG NO for me. Anyone going through the same?
@@johnjohns8278 I already moved out... It was and still is painful for me. 💔 All i can do for now is watching them through a cctv... Can't wait to have them sent to me.
For sure, and part of that I wanted to show in this video! There’s no lingering on campus, I have to exercise her instead of meeting friends out, and there’s a large portion of sacrifice that comes with committing to an animal. As someone who’s at the end of their college career, it was a wise decision for me because I know how to make the time. Would definitely advise waiting to my younger audience
Your dog is probably barking BECAUSE your parents are home. Whenever my dog is left in her crate with people over or I’m home and just need to get some housework done, she cries because she knows she’s being left out. You need to start crate training young to get them comfortable with it, and don’t reward them with attention or being let out of the crate if they start throwing a tantrum
I can’t wait for puppy life 😍 getting a corgi in May when classes are done so I can raise it over the summer. I work part time 2 or 3 days a week from 6pm to 10pm so I would be home all day with my puppy and my parents would be home by the time I have to leave for work, so it’s perfect! (I live at home not on campus so even better)
@@rachelllxo it’s been great! The pandemic changed things so I was home with him all the time for the first year of his life, but of course it made socialization harder because I couldn’t take him to restaurants or puppy training classes. I knew separation anxiety would be a thing during covid so i trained him to be okay alone in the house early on, and never had any issues with that! He’s a goofy, particular, stubborn dog but I wouldn’t trade him for anything.
Ok thanks it's just so funny 😂 I thought for a second it would say something like " follow your dreams " but thank you for your advice so I can have a nice drink in the morning

Nearly a year of recall training, with 3-4 months using a long line leash before allowing her to be fully off leash! I'm still incredibly selective of the places I let her have free range, and if there are other dogs walking around the park we usually stick with a long line leash :)
@@duckgamer8213 First of all, I keep in him in a cage when necessary, like when he's doing bad things, or when I'm not home. And second of all, whether I keep him in a cage or not, it doesn't concern you at all. And I'm not a cruel person for putting my dog in a cage. You don't know his personality, so you wouldn't even know why I put him in a cage sometimes.
I've been a cat owner over the years. My latest just went ape shit on me for moving and is now wild Lol. I LOVE DOGS ALSO but have been apprehensive since I live in an apartment. However I've been doing some homework and discovering certain dogs who would be ok in the setting. Great Dane and Greyhound I am really looking at.
aweee! what is he mixed with? he looks like a mix. i'm getting a german shepherd/great dane mix puppy soon 🥰 your dog sort of looks like one he's adorable 🥺
katelynn terry I rescued her as a failed service dog, the organization said she’s Great Dane mixed with German short haired pointer! She’s pretty small for a Dane, but SUPER tall for a pointer. They’re only supposed to be 40-50lbs, but Dory’s knocking on 90 😂
I’m thinking of getting a dog but Work full time - I’m planning on coming home at lunch time to take it out for about 20/30 mins. Then back to work and then take him out again once I’m home. Is that enough?
I reeeeeally wouldn’t advise leaving a dog in the crate for more than 4-5 hours a day, especially for a new animal who is going to need lots of training and attention to thrive off an established routine. I know there’s an appeal to the comfort and company of a pet dog, but if you would be miserable locked up for an entire day, so would they :/
Rose Osafo yes she does her business during our morning walk, she’s walked again between going to class and work (not filmed), and her energy is taken care of with our nightly run! I adopted Dory as an adult dog so she was already potty trained when I got her
That’s why I have to take her on so many outside walks 😂 if you can’t walk your dog at least 45 mins a day with outdoor potty breaks every 2-4 hours, you shouldn’t get a dog
I have literally no idea why this was the first question you thought of. That’s like asking someone what happens if someone breaks in and steals their laptop or child lmao
@@malaya9621 I mean good for them... I guess. I mean if you are someone who doesn’t waste a lot of time watching UA-cam and playing video games and just focuses on your dog and school, maybe this can work. It’s just a lot more convenient with a yard.
Ace The Puppy! Not sure if that’s a question or an assumption but not all dogs enjoy physical touch! Dory has attachment issues from prior owners and is happiest bonding through play or games, which we spend a few hours everyday doing 😊. Thanks for watching

Lol I just have to say, your way of studying is EXACTLY how I would study if I were still in school haha. That's my kind of study session!
Omg me with my dog. She’s an old English and she’s 6 months and I’m so nervous about moving to college with her
So I searched up this video to find other people in the same situation, this was long enough so you’re probably in college already, and I just wanted to ask how much time you are actually spending with your dog, like how hard is it to manage?
So I'll definitely be fostering before adopting (and possibly adopt one of my fosters)
Infamous Rae Thank you so much!!
@@infamousrae698 you are so kind 😭 I love how you can answer to they’re comments and care so much for strangers I look up to you so much just by one video I’ve watched them all and one day this will be my life schedule, you are a great person and I was wondering, if I was to get an apartment, do you have any tips for me😁
So happy seeing these comments. Me and my boyfriend got a puppy in college. Glad I’m not the only crazy person. I don’t drink or party so have more time and money than others. I missed my dogs so much when I left that I cried everyday. So that convinced my boyfriend to get one haha
I do not have the courage to leave my dog alone , hope you are taking good care of her
venom gupta She’s an adult dog who was previously in training to be a service animal before her owner died, so although she definitely can get into trouble I know her temperament enough to leave her for small spans of time. Would definitely recommend starting with small spurts (10-15 mins) and see how it goes. Thanks for watching!
My dilemma is not about getting a dog but bringing my family dog with me to college. I’ve already taken care of him for four years I’ve had him but that’s with mom’s help. Now the question is whether I can balance dog responsibilities with school
This is my life but a lot more work as i have to cook food clean dished sweep floor and a buy groceries and all sort of stuff + i live on 3rd floor of an appartement with no Lift/ elevator so i have to take stairs its super tired
Shihtzu Myjaan I’m on a 2nd floor walk up so I can imagine! I also have those responsibilities, but didn’t film every task and do grocery shopping later in the week. Thanks for watching!
How were you able to leave your dog uncreated while you’re away? Mine just rips everything to shreds if left alone
Dogs that have separation anxiety or aren’t properly tired out will definitely get destructive if bored! Dory is an older dog, so as long as I make sure to exercise her regularly and not leave her for more than 4 hours at a time alone, she keeps herself busy 💕
My pups do this when they have a lot of energy! I try to give them exercise before I go or give them a frozen kong filled with peanut butter!
Thank you, this helps me get a feel for what energy level great danes have. Thinking of getting one this year.
The music being soft and chilling coffee cup “go to hell”
such a great video!! thank you for sharing!
If anyone has knowledge about this please inform me
People say without dogs and u don’t live with someone u go crazy and hear voices bc ur lonely 😞 but that’s what the news said idk if it’s true !
lovely asmr having a presence just to talk to or care for during the day definitely helps curb loneliness! They have such personalities it’s almost like living with a child who hasn’t quite figured out how to speak yet 😂
No it isn’t lol
Livi ⭐️⭐️ it is.
your dog is so lovely❤
I laughed out loud when the vlog music is playing and you slowly turn around your mug and it says that🤣
I want to move out as soon as possible, my step dad hates my Dalmatian because he sheds a lot can’t wait till December when I turn 18 and move the f outta here
Is it a struggle to pay for expenses? I have a German Shepherd mix, I graduated high school 4 years ago and am considering going to college. I won't be able to go to school full time and work full time, because I need to care for her. My monthly bills are $1200 and I'm scared I wouldn't be able to make ends meet. 😞
I’d really recommend hitting a dog park and talking to other dog owners, someone always has a great and affordable dog walker they use! It would probably add another $300ish a month but it would allow you to work full time
my dog LOVES monk!! thank you for the video!
You do all that and still have energy to study at night? I'd be dead 😵😂 Man I wish I had that stamina
We have a 9 week old Golden Retreiver in a 950 sqft apt. We are bpth in college and work. I love the advice of the tv on when u love. Our puppy loves that and we have changed our work schedules to accommodate his life needs (i will work graveyard in my hospital)
I was wondering if u take him to class at all? I want to do that but only service animals are allowed.
Any advice?,
I have been thinking of adopting a dog for months and my one main worry is not having the dog go to the bathroom in the afternoon when working. I live in an apartment with a balcony but the balcony provides easy access for the dog to go on someone elses property. Any tips?
Best way to study😌
What kind of dog? Very cute!❤️
I am moving out soon to another country to pursue my bachelor's classes, however, I am planning on having my dog and cat sent to me months or a year later, so I am looking for options as leaving my pets behind is a BIG NO for me. Anyone going through the same?
Yesss literally exactly my situation 😞😞
@@johnjohns8278 I already moved out... It was and still is painful for me. 💔 All i can do for now is watching them through a cctv... Can't wait to have them sent to me.
Video could also be a coffee tutorial
Take your time on making this big decision yes they are the best but also come with expenses vet, food and they do need a lot of you
For sure, and part of that I wanted to show in this video! There’s no lingering on campus, I have to exercise her instead of meeting friends out, and there’s a large portion of sacrifice that comes with committing to an animal. As someone who’s at the end of their college career, it was a wise decision for me because I know how to make the time. Would definitely advise waiting to my younger audience
omg I go to cal poly too and I might adopt a dog this weekend(:
kris p that’s awesome! Make sure you’re all stocked with doggo essentials and an abundance of patience first :)
How did you train your dog to stay at home alone? My dog barks and howls whenever I leave despite the fact that my parents are home.
(I live at home not on campus so even better)
how has it been going??
@@rachelllxo it’s been great! The pandemic changed things so I was home with him all the time for the first year of his life, but of course it made socialization harder because I couldn’t take him to restaurants or puppy training classes. I knew separation anxiety would be a thing during covid so i trained him to be okay alone in the house early on, and never had any issues with that! He’s a goofy, particular, stubborn dog but I wouldn’t trade him for anything.
I need the go to hell cup ☕️😈
Jane and Greta's World I got it from Urban Outfitters years ago but I’m sure they have something similar on Etsy!
Ok thanks it's just so funny 😂 I thought for a second it would say something like " follow your dreams " but thank you for your advice so I can have a nice drink in the morning
Did I miss it or when did you have dinner?
Hi Rachel I watch this video and then I had Uncle George watch it with me we loved it.
Seeing where you live and where you go to school and your beautiful Dog Dory,
YOU are so beautiful inside/out. Thank You keep them coming;) Love You💕
What type of dog he is? I rescued one just like him. Love from PR 🇵🇷
1:15 why?
How do you trust your dog to run off leash like that?
Nearly a year of recall training, with 3-4 months using a long line leash before allowing her to be fully off leash! I'm still incredibly selective of the places I let her have free range, and if there are other dogs walking around the park we usually stick with a long line leash :)
Right? I keep mine in a cage cause he likes jumping on the couch and chewing on things...
@@nabirahcorville550 wtf that's so cruel bro it's normal for dogs to chew things just teach him to not.u dont deserve a dog
BTS_Sarangssddoo _ - How would you like it if someone Locked you up huh
Bastard !!
This is crazy you passed by my house on your way to the park !!!
thought y can live the dog at home for like 3-4 hours right?
off topic but i should try studying like this also 😂
Cutest angel..dont u update ur vlogs now
Dnt u vlog in a month or weekly...I liked ur vlog
What does your dog do when you are awAy at home ?
I've been a cat owner over the years. My latest just went ape shit on me for moving and is now wild Lol. I LOVE DOGS ALSO but have been apprehensive since I live in an apartment. However I've been doing some homework and discovering certain dogs who would be ok in the setting. Great Dane and Greyhound I am really looking at.
Both great dogs, I love greyhounds but careful - they really cannot live with cats or other small animals! Gentle dogs but high prey drive
aweee! what is he mixed with? he looks like a mix. i'm getting a german shepherd/great dane mix puppy soon 🥰 your dog sort of looks like one he's adorable 🥺
katelynn terry I rescued her as a failed service dog, the organization said she’s Great Dane mixed with German short haired pointer! She’s pretty small for a Dane, but SUPER tall for a pointer. They’re only supposed to be 40-50lbs, but Dory’s knocking on 90 😂
I thought you were kidding when you said you dont study the way we do 😭
I’m thinking of getting a dog but Work full time - I’m planning on coming home at lunch time to take it out for about 20/30 mins. Then back to work and then take him out again once I’m home. Is that enough?
If you work full time it's hard to take care properly of a dog. Condiser wisely maybe, but if you can, then go!
Alexandra Devilgore yeah it will be hard but I do think I can do it. Thanks
I reeeeeally wouldn’t advise leaving a dog in the crate for more than 4-5 hours a day, especially for a new animal who is going to need lots of training and attention to thrive off an established routine. I know there’s an appeal to the comfort and company of a pet dog, but if you would be miserable locked up for an entire day, so would they :/
I have also one black lab
So when you go to work and college does your dog stay by himself and if he does is he house-trained?
Rose Osafo yes she does her business during our morning walk, she’s walked again between going to class and work (not filmed), and her energy is taken care of with our nightly run! I adopted Dory as an adult dog so she was already potty trained when I got her
I want to get a dog but I work nightshifts as a nurse! Arrrgghh, will never be able to get one....
Loveeee the way you study what a great idea👍👍👍
Just typed... A day in life of dog lol n realised you're pretty infamous lol
I’m gonna get a dog
i have a question, where does my dog poop
That’s why I have to take her on so many outside walks 😂 if you can’t walk your dog at least 45 mins a day with outdoor potty breaks every 2-4 hours, you shouldn’t get a dog
@@infamousrae698 I wake up at 5 everyday so walking my dog is ok and also I can have a indoor potty maybe?
I love monk!
Who says we howl when you humans are at work. It's those pesky cats wailing that you keep hearing. Woof!
I subbed. Lol I love your dog 🐕
Brit Nicole Fitness we both thank you greatly!!
Thnx so much
How old is your dog
nichole Williams she just turned 3 but was 2 when we filmed this video! Thanks for watching :)
You’re welcome 😊 i recently got a dog and he turned 2 in the beginning of this month. I go to school as well so I was nervous about it lol
I have that dog to
What breed is it
what if someone breaks in or steals her
I have literally no idea why this was the first question you thought of. That’s like asking someone what happens if someone breaks in and steals their laptop or child lmao
She’s incredibly territorial and has aggression when any unknown person walks around our house, so I’d love to see someone try 😂
@@infamousrae698 lol
Moral of the story: if you want a dog in college, get a yard
you don't need a yard if you make time to go to a nearby park
@@malaya9621 I don’t think anyone has time to do that every single day. Definitely not college students lol
@@meetdavid2024 i know plenty of people who made it work :)
@@malaya9621 I mean good for them... I guess. I mean if you are someone who doesn’t waste a lot of time watching UA-cam and playing video games and just focuses on your dog and school, maybe this can work. It’s just a lot more convenient with a yard.
love it

Ace The Puppy! Not sure if that’s a question or an assumption but not all dogs enjoy physical touch! Dory has attachment issues from prior owners and is happiest bonding through play or games, which we spend a few hours everyday doing 😊. Thanks for watching
I still can't decide between getting a dog or cat.
