Nice video bro. I bought a Mini Universe pedal today and I have no idea what are param 1, 2, and 3. You are the only one on UA-cam who show exactly what param 1,2, and 3 do in 9 types of reverb of this pedal. Thank you so much.
@@RyanLuttonI think the absent response is positive response enough. I'm very glad about the sound of this very affordable pedal. On top of the obvious function as great reverbs and parameters for the money, the USB-C also works as a audio interface for desktop, laptop, i-/smartphones and ipads/tablets. Very neat for quick demotracking of the board regardless if the Mini-universe is active or not. I use it alot for guitar, voice, synthesizers and ambiental drumhits. Aswell as Flamma FS-02 Reverb. Not the same price as the Mini-u, but the Mini gives more to the pallette than the (still cheap) Flamma FS-02, just as a reference. Though FS-02 is good alternative aswell.
Wonderful playing. This pedal is worlds above the other budget reverbs out there in my experience, especially for people who want to try some ambient sounds without investing a ton of funds. Yes, it pops when you turn it off or on. I just..... Leave it on!
I always appreciate your demos. You play useful techniques that work with the settings. You also have a thorough understanding of what each control should do, even whe the device falls short. Thank you for this and every demo you do.
I'm glad you like the content, and more importantly find it helpful! Comments like this go a long way! UA-cam (and the internet in general) can be rough and de-movitating, so I appreciate you taking the time to write this! Hopefully see you around! - Ryan
Nice run-through of the pedal. I have one of these and it has been a blast to play with. If you want to buy one to gig with, please be aware that the bypass switch is extremely noisy and that you can add some unwanted sounds when you engage the pedal. In other words, you might have to put the pedal in an effects loop and leave the pedal on so that you can get around not hearing a small explosion when you switch it on. But for the fun and the features, it is worth the price. You can spend countless hours drifting through the mini Universe.
Nice demo, as always! Amazing sound, the question is the durability haha. Which one you recommend, this M-Vave ($20 new) or a Behringer rv600 ($55 used)?
I only wish that the 'shimmer' setting had "drift" modulation on it too, rather than the high pass filter. I wish ALL of them, not just the first 3, had that 'drift' modulation...
Nice demo showing live both your guitar playing and turning the knobs! Can the pedal save some settings for easy and quick reproduction of favorite settings or is it about dialing the settings for each song in a live situation (if so not ideal and the Flamma reverb may win on that aspect)? There are some very nice sounds coming from this pedal, but it seems that higher levels of effects lose a lot of clarity and the sound becomes extremely muddy, right?
Nicely done demo, thanks for posting. As for other "ambient" pedals to compare with, maybe consider Empress EchoSystem, NUX Duotime, and MOOER Ocean Machine. I happen to have and use these, but would be interested to hear your take on these.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Demo, very thorough as always. Great Sound, I have been interested in this Pedal for a while now. I have a Cuvave 'Dig Reverb' I like it, seems pretty good but I am only used to 'In Amp Spring Reverb Tanks' and the Cuvave Dig Reverb doesn't have 'Spring' for some reason. Also only has Decay and Mix and Reverb type selector, so no 'Param' knobs, so less options if using for a comparison. All the Best. Cheers
Fantastic sounds. I bought it just for the magnificent Shimmer. Within the first hour of use the selector knob went wrong so I left it on Shimmer, as I intended anyway. The low octave setting on maximum treble, and the hight octave setting on 3 o'clock treble were terrific. Right up there with some much more expensive kit. Today, after less than 10 hours of use, the unit developed three more faults. It would not switch on or pass a signal; engaging the power supply with the button held down would fix that. Then, it would make a strange sound, rhythmically on and off, unusable. Then, it would not switch off at all. What will happen next? I don't care. it is going in the trash. Such a shame. The Shimmer sound was absolutely first-class. I hope someone combines this chip with some solid hardware.
This is the only report I've seen of a faulty unit. You should reach out and they'll probably send you another one. I'm waiting on mine, and I'm hoping they've addressed the problem with the pop on activation, but I'm not holding my breath.
There is a useful trick or two you can try. 1. I find with mine that it's the first power-on that makes the most noise. Mute your chain and just mash it on and off a few times. You'll hopefully find the pops a lot softer after that 2. Make sre it has isolated power from everything else. If it helps, use the USB-C to power off a bank 3. if none of the above works, I suggest keeping it always on and using the mix nkob to turn it off and on. Luckily for us it goes to full 0% and full 100%
I think when reviewing Chinese reverbs you should always mention how they affect the clean signal when turned on. The Caline Snakebite reverb, while it sounds beautiful, turns clean signal into shit, making it literally twice as loud and muddy. I have never sold a pedal so quickly after purchase, it was impossible to use, especially in an effects loop. Just turn your pedal on, mix knob to 0, and you may discover something new about your favourite stompbox. Btw, you can experience something similar even with TC Hall of fame, but it doesn't cut frequencies so obviously.
I took this pedal to the beach and found that i could communicate perfectly with a pod of dolphins ! Lol Great "poor man's strymon cloudburst! Long live M-VAVE;
I have this one, it's nice but for some reason it kicks in really loudly so it's not the really for subtlety... at least the one i got but some of the modes are just pure joy
I've found that to be fairly common with cheaper gear, mine pops but the pop will lessen after a few presses, it never fully leaves though! maybe, running this in a loop would be ideal? no pop and depending on the loop you could even get trails! It's that or upgrade to a better quality switch. Thanks for the comment :) - Ryan
@@RyanLutton thank you very much, its true that ive just been rehearsing with it leasurely, maybe in time it'll get better. I'm glad to hear you think the switch is to blame and not the electronics, that sounds reassuring!
@@RyanLuttonDoy you know any budget loop pedals with trails? I would love that solution, but spending 170€ on a One Control Mosquito to use on a 25€ pedal, doesn't seem to make much sense. Jeje
Some people have been soldering a couple 1M resistors to the footswitch and that completely kills the pop. I just ordered one to try and probably I'll try that.@@RyanLutton
It sounds decent enough, but what is with parameters 1, 2, and 3? It isn't like they change function with the reverb type. Why not just ID as low pass, high pass, and modulation? That is what they are in every reverb setting. A stupid design.

I've been looking at this one for a while now. Happy that you're doing a full walkthrough of what it can do. Top notch video like always.
Glad you enjoyed the video, hope it helps you make a decision! :) see you around! - Ryan
Money is kind of tight lately. Hopefully someday. @@RyanLutton
Just received mine today and saw your notification. So excited !
Awesome! Are you enjoying it? :)

Excellent review. Thanks for showing what all the controls do. No else on UA-cam seemed to think it was important.
A very haunty and dreamy sounding pedal 👍

I have a volume pedal in front of my board. Super useful especially if you're actually recording with an amp
This sounds nice, gotta have one!
Thank you for the demo (:
No problem! hope you enjoy the pedal :)

Awesome as always Ryan! For your pedal shootout, Caline and Flamma make some decent pedals but I don't know if they top this one🤘
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! Caline and Flamma are good calls, me too but we will find out in the shootout! Thanks for the suggestions :)

I have one of these and I love how it sounds but that whining noise when you put it on a power chain is ridiculous.
Use an usb power. I did and all problems are gone
I believe it must plugged into a 9v 500ma supply to fix the whining noise
500 MillA plug and it works fine.

Do you get trails when turning the pedal off?
How'd you fix the loud thumping sound every time you turn the pedal on?
Sadly its a common thing cheaper switches, you could put the pedal in its own loop or you could upgrade the switch.. hope this helps!
@RyanLutton Thanks, this helps. Keep on reviewing more pedals man! Awesome!

Do you think it can be a substitute for Halo Dual Echo of keeley pedal? because the Keeley brand is so expensive.
Great test, thank you so much for that! Do you know if this effect can be powered by Samsung 9V charger via USB slot, like smartphone?

the shimmer and the lofi are worth the price of the pedal alone
It's better than Tc elec Hall of Fame?tks
sadly this pedal is only mono, hoping for them to release a stereo version of this with trails
