This is ok in field trial conditions. In the real world of picking up, if the dog picks up 2 or 3 birds in one retrieve it is ok. One of my dogs regularly piked up 2 birds, which was not liked by the people that did trials.
Good sound advice etc shown in a controlled environment but for sure not quite so cut and dried in the real world of picking up.There are far worse traits than a dog going twos up and they do not all ever try it.The dogs which do are often not straight off the training field and even though initially schooled correctly cannot pass up the opportunity to try and collect another when returning with a dead bird. The problems arise when birds are not dead.Very much a whole new learning curve in a live situation for dogs and handlers. The shoots want the birds accounted for not folks training their dog in the field on a shoot day.
