When I was a kid, they were still testing weapons above ground in Nevada. We were told never to eat snow in Tennessee. I always did. I guess that explains a few things.

When were you a kid? I live in tennessee and it’s surprising to hear that radiation particles would go that far, especially over all the mountains dividing the states between Nevada and Tennessee.

@@rulerofomicronpersei8 I’ve done some searching and it’s crazy how much those tests affected the entire Earth. Steel had to be taken from old battleships because it was too radioactive.

No disrespect intended but that means he died in 2021, this would have been taped in the 1940’s almost 80 years ago meaning your friend lived for many many decades and was probably past the life expectancy anyway based on his age probability. He has to die of something and dying of something 80 years after exposure (if in fact he really did die of cancer directly atributable to these operations ) is really a good trade off

@@scrappydoo7887 No offense intended, but you are being a bit naive. The AEC and the military knew full well that fallout could end up in more locations than they would publicly admit. The risk of collateral damage was calculated and considered acceptable because if and when it happened, there would be valuable data obtained. Look up information concerning the Nevada tests and the "Downwinders". The AEC used some pretty underhanded methods to gather statistics on the long term effects of fallout and the resulting increases in low level background radiation. One of the things discovered was that only a small increase, above the natural background level, is needed to have increased rates of cancer and other health problems.

Radiation isn't anywhere near as lethal as people in the public tend to believe. You have to be really quite heavily exposed for it to kill you and later cancers are only a big issue with certain radiation types and certain isotopes
