The first xmen legends is one of the greatest games from my childhood! I still have my copy for the gamecube. Definitely giving that another playthrough its been too many years. Thank you for the reminder 🤘
It was a solid RPG for the time. Great way of living the comics. I bought this myself for the GameCube. Never played 2 but yeah... Great game
I also really loved ME3. Yes the ending failed to acknowledge your choices. But the entire game itself is your past actions coming back to haunt you. Do you have a galaxy full of people you’ve helped willing to throw there lot in with you. Or are you alone. Also that dlc night out on the town was just magical.
Mass Effect 3 ending isn't the problem, the problem started all the way down to the beginning of ME2.
It was destined to be a failure years before the making of the game.
Mass Effect 3 is kind of a sad tale. Game had the overwhelming majority of people hyped and simpin' throughout the whole thing, even the multiplayer was good. Those damned final 10 minutes of the game were so bad for most players it overruled literally EVERYTHING else the game did, it went from a 9/10 to a 5/10 just cause of that finale to most. Only other controversy surrounding the game was the Javik DLC being way too important to be paid DLC, the game was literally borderline flawless until the boarding of the Crucible.
ME3 had arguably the best combat in the series. It felt the most dynamic and interesting of the combat systems throughout the series. It also had some incredible moments. The citadel DLC is fantastic, that scene where you're shooting can on a ledge in the citadel with Garrus before the final mission felt so emotional including the option to let him win was awesome. The game did a lot so well then the ending just tanked the whole game. People should not be able to so easily make a meme about who the final boss of the game is despite the Marauder Shields jokes being pretty funny at the time. I really wish they had embraced the indoctrination theory that fans put together and ran with that because it was better than what they came up with.
I just got into mass effect as a whole last year and while 2 was my overall favorite the citadel dlc was the most fun I had playing a video game in a long time
Yeah, the Multiplayer was great (people asking for things to get nerfed in a CO-OP Multiplayer, winding up making it too hard for new players aside), and I wish it was in the Legacy Edition, but the stuff with the original ending and the Javik thing after the game's intended release was made to be earlier than intended causing that is just, ooof.
I played it back then, and all the conversation was about how bad the ending was, but not to be cliche, the joy of mass effect was the journey, not the ending lol.
Mass Effect 3 did something that genuinely never happens to me. It affected me emotionally. I had played through the series since ME1 and had romanced Liara, staying true to her with her absence from the crew through ME2, and that moment in ME3 where Shepard and Liara say goodbye.... it really got me. However you want to debate the ending, the farewells between friends, comrades, and lovers was so well written that will always stand by the statement ME3 was one of the best.
The fact the nobody mentions Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is just unbelievable. That game is the definition of underrated
A Nazi owned the company though.
Probably the second best thing after skyrim for me....yes their obviously similar but KoA Reckoning was a game that just nailed every aspect and draws the player into the world
I'm surprised it hasn't caught on in popularity, especially with the semi-recent remaster.
It is an exclusive of consoles, if they are underrated they could just as well have released it on PC.
Because it wasn't good. One of the only games I bought and said nah, this sucks.
Skies of Arcadia. It really needs to be released on a more popular platform.
Thank you for mentioning it
Jade Empire and the Wasteland series (which are the spiritual predecessor to the Fallout series).
Is Kotor overlooked? People still claim it to be one of the best RPG's to this day.
Was wondering if they know what overlooked means for half this video. X-Men Legends, Mass Effect 3, Kotor. These where all like the best selling RPGs in their time. Was expecting them to claim FF7 is over looked with some of the games they picked in this viedo.
man i will never forget kotor... my dad had to build me a new pc because my old pc didnt have a pixelshader and was at the bare minimum requirements.
god was i a happy child when i was finally able to play it.
Yeah, it’s not overlooked whatsoever.
I think they clearly identified why they are claiming things were overlooked. She spoke about KOTOr from a dialogue and voice acting perspective, which was fresh and informative. And ppl love to talk about Ultimate Alliance but jot xmen legends even tho it had cooler mechanics like grabbing someone to teleport or flying your partner across a bridge.
8:00 agreed. Everything involving Mordis Solus in ME 3 was so good and solidified him as one of my all-time favorite characters. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
It sounds like this list may need to be overlooked or under appreciated ELEMENTS of great RPGs bc there’s no way in hell KOTOR was ever overlooked. But her point is actually very good for an aspect that goes unrecognized relative to other elements
Jade Empire on the original xbox
Never forget, Tales of Vesperia was also a Xbox 360 jrpg. Oh, and Lost Odyssey, two of the best jrpgs of all time.
I need to go back and play X-men Legends 1, I remember getting stuck on the sentinels fight in the flashback early on
Secret of Evermore
10/10
Lost Odyssey for me
Damn hell yeah i love that gamegreat story.
Still have the game but no Xbox 360 lol
Agreed.
X-Men Legends 2 was my favorite during that time. Plus you get to unlock Gambit's Death form. It was a great time to be a kid.
The fact that The Legend Of Dragoon wasn't mentioned at all is a crime against gaming as a whole
It’s Proto-Lost Odyssey with its timed-button pressing JRPG Gameplay!!! 👍🏽
Thank you!!!
Playing it at the moment on my ps5.
Apart from the games Ewan and Psy said none of these are “overlooked” at all
No Marvel Ultimate Alliance
My only issue with ME3 is that damn quest journal, it doesn't track your progress doing a quest so if you stop playing, it is extremely easy to get lost on what you were doing.
Jade Empire
ME3 was actually my favorite in the trilogy. I was completely out of the entire loop on Mass Effect until the Legendary Edition came out and I wanted to jump in. I had heard about them while they were coming out, but I never really cared. Bought the LE on day one and binged the hell out of all 3 and, honestly, ME3 was my favorite. The conclusion of all of the galaxy’s numerous side stories was always going to be a huge task. I agree that the final moments (even with the extended version) are a bit rushed but I loved how a lot of the trilogy’s stories came together and it felt so epic. Truly loved that game.
Mass Effect 3 is the best one in the series, excluding the mediocre last 20 minutes of it. And to be fair, how do you even end something that epic in a satisfying way? They wrote a brilliant series, but it was so brilliant that they wrote themselves into a corner. Either way, 98% of the game was incredible.
Xenogears for me it’s so good I still play it over the new ones
Dragon Age Inquisition gets so overhated and ignored
The Champions games 💯 always overlooked by The Bard's Tale and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1&2
Of Norrath?
@@sidneyvandykeii3169 yep! And the sequel, Return to Arms. Love those games!
It's OK Josh, I've played through Andromeda.........twice!
Naughty Dog's, EA published, Sega Megadrive classic, Rings Of Power. Absolutely epic. I loved RPGs as a kid, and for sheer size/playtime, I wouldn't find anything even close until FFVII dropped on the PS1. I'd love to play it again. ❤
Rings of Power was ridiculous for it's time
Suikoden
Yes mate! Have you played Eiyuden yet?
@@fplgregfrost Just started it! Got through the first boss so far and loving every minute of it!
@@LucienYT yeah it's pretty cool!
Eternal Sonata is one of the prettiest and unique games I've ever played in my life. I had no idea the game was a loose interpretation of Frederic Chopin's life (even though it takes place inside his mind before his death) who i quickly became interested in thanks to the game. I'm not even a fan of classical music yet I found his work to be emotionally beautiful and tragic all at once. What makes the game better in my opinion is that every other character is based on a musical note or some form of music genre.I hope someday, one day the game becomes available on game pass so everyone can play this overlooked beautiful game.
Eternal Sonata was excellent, the music, the story, and the characters.
It even had a secret multiplayer if you had more than 1 controller connected and your friends can play as your party members.
At a time everyone was grabbing a property and making similar games X-Men Legends, Ultimate Alliance, Justice League Heroes, Batman Rise of the Sin Tsu, Dragon Ball Z Sagas, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Right off the back. They said one of my favorite rpgs. Eternal Sonata was so great for me.
Dark cloud 2 or divine divinity for me
Mass effect 3 is great. Ending isn't good but i think that was always going to be a difficult story to wrap up in a satisfying way. Until the end it's arguably the best of the trilogy. That whole series as lauded as it is i think is still somehow underrated overall
Secret of Evermore - It was easily better then Mana at the time, great combat magic system, fun little world, and having a multipurpose dog as the best CPU partner you could ask for
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals - Easily some of the best boss music of all time, wrapped up in an enriching story, brain numbing puzzles mixed into dungeons, and then the added on Ancient Cave, which is basically another game they squished into it.
Xenogears is mine. Probably my favorite story in any RPG. Game deserves a remaster, even if they keep disc 2 the same.
I could not agree more w/ Josh... Mass Effect 3 is one of my all-time favorites. Yes, not as good as ME2, but still... Of course, the end was disappointing, but the 40 hours that lead up the ending are just incredible. If you play paragon like I usually do, then the moments you have with your squad (past & present) are just so touching and meaningful, & the resolution of all the storylines that spanned the entire trilogy, like curing the genophage & helping the Quarians reclaim their home world, is just epic. And having re-played the numerous times, I usually end up w/ going w/ the same paragon choices, so at this point, I don't really mind the ending b/c I always pick the same one anyway so it's like playing a linear game...
Eternal Sonata deserve a new gen HD version
OMG, I can't believe you said Eternal Sonata! That was literally the first thing that came to my mind!
5:38 my man drops Legends *and* Evolution and yeah we did just become best friends.
Oh boy where to begin:
Breath of Fire 1-4, Jade Cocoon, Koudelka, Lunar 1 & 2, Megaman Legends, Parasite Eve, Persona 2 Innocent Sin & Eternal Punishment, The Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, Grandia 1 & 2, Phantasy Star Universe, Radiata Stories, Rogue Galaxy, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Shin Megami Tensei - Digital Devil Saga, Star Ocean - Till the End of Time, Suikoden 1-5, Tales of the Abyss, The Lord of the Rings - The Third Age, Wild Arms 1-5, Lost Odyssey, Ys - The Oath in Felghana, Brave Story - New Traveler, Valkyrie Profile - Lenneth, Lost Dimension, Super Mario RPG, Golden Sun, Radiant Historia, to name a few 😁
"What game are you ashamed that you've never played?"
I have an idea for a quiz like this, since I was very young I fell in love with video games and even today in my 40s I can't get enough of playing them, but there are one or two series that I'm ashamed of never having played, Final Fantasy 8 is a game that I only played for about an hour on the PS1 that my sister's friend brought when she visited us, so to my shame I never played a Final Fantasy game again after that. So I'd love a quiz where each of you admits to the game you've never played, even though you know it's a genre you like or even one of the best games out there.
X-Men Legends was amazing. That's a franchise that should totally return.
X-men Legends 1 and 2 and Balder's Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2 were all incredible games.
The only downside of the first X-men game was that you got to unlock Psylocke (my favourite character) way too late. You literally get her 2-3 rooms before the final boss, who is immune to psychic damage. Her main attacks deal psychic damage 😂
How is any mass effect game over looked they are some of the biggest RPGs in the modern era what r u talking about
Underrated sure but not overlooked, you do not get the kind of blow back that Bioware received on an overlooked title.
@valetboy21 my point still stands it couldn't have been underrated being part of one of the biggest modern RPG series there is now if it were Andromeda that was chosen I might agree
KOTOR for sure gets slept on. the narrative of that game is arguably the best star wars story EVER
Lost odyssey. One of the best stories ever. First game that made me cry real tears.
I'd like to shout out X-Men Destiny. I feel like if all the stuff between Silicon Knights and Epic didn't go down and more people got to play it before they were all recalled, more people would look back on it a bit fonder.
Also, Rogue Galaxy is an amazing game. Truly underrated.
Mass Effect 3, including the ending, is amazing, and I'll say that whenever, wherever, and to whoever. Without hiding.
The ending still sucked.
It was my favorite one lol
Vagrant Story. I'm still waiting for a sequel....
Bauldrs gate dark alliance 2 underrated af.
I LOVE baulder's gate dark alliance
If you mention Raven Software's X-Men Legends as the most underrated RPG of all time, I'd say it is going up in price because collector's are looking for it. Especially on XBox. If a RPG of Raven Software ist underrated, then it's probably their debut Game "Black Crypt".
If I'd plug a game here it's Record of Agarest War/Agarest Generations of War. The main gimmick of it is that you're a member of this family that's fighting some big evil monster over multiple generations until your final offspring can finish the job. I think it got overlooked because they marketed it way too much on sexy anime waifus so most people probably thought it was some hentai or dating sim game when that was a minuscule part of the game.
Stevie said we wouldn't have the likes of Baldurs Gate without KOTOR but the first two games came out before KOTOR 🤨also, I'd hardly call most of the games on this list overlooked. While the first Dragons Dogma was perhaps overlooked. It was clear since the announcement of a second that it's been anything but. And while Mass Effect 3 had it's controversy around it's ending, it's another one that was far from overlooked, people may still take issue with how the ending was handled, but it's still played by many and enjoyed to this day.
Yea, I thought the same about Baldur’s Gate. Also Neverwinter Nites
I rarely think this, but Josh is 100% right. MASS EFFECT 3, apart from the ending, is excellent. I think the greatness of everything prior to the ending far outweighs the disappointment of the ending. It is my personal favorite game in the trilogy, and one of my very favorite games of all time.
The fact no one said Jade Empire saddens me greatly.
Garry Goals for me! I mean he scored every game and never missed a penalty.
I can tell he's much younger than me, he actually liked x-men evolution...
Little King's Story if it counts. Its like an RPG crossed with Pikmin.
Valkyrie Profile. But that's the boomer in me speaking.
Skies of Arcadia i believe it's overlooked. Story characters are great and i wish sega gives us a remaster
Hey Does Binary Domain count cause that would be my pick as an rpg thats overlooked cause its like gears of war mixed with elements of mass effect but if it isnt an rpg then Bakugaun Battle Brawlers will be my choice anwesome game with decent story and game play
YEAH! KOTOR! KOTOR 1 and 2 are very overlooked games.
So the editor corrected Ewan @ 7:02 about 'X-Men Legends' being on Xbox, but doesn't correct his Steam statement... 6:56 (The game is not available on Steam either)
Why correct one statement but not the other?
Oh, this is an easy one. Legend of Dragoon
It's a fantasy RPG that came out shortly after FF7 but had better graphics, amazing gameplay and one of the most engrossing stories ever. It was far ahead of its time in quality. You guys should do a video on it because it could really use a modern upgrade.
Legend of Dragoon and Legend of Legaia are both massively ignored and overlooked.
I know I always say this, but NEO: The World Ends With You is such an overlooked RPG that it's always overlooked for lists about overlooked RPGs, lol.
I got so excited hearing X-Men Legends was on steam, only to not actually find it on there.
Kingdoms of Amalur, the first Dragon's Dogma and maybe Greedfall. Mass Effect only suffered from the pick a colour ending, other than that the trilogy was sheer perfection!
Mass Effect is hands-down the perfect RPG trilogy of all time.
def the perfect 1st n sequel, the 3rd was good but doesnt hold a candle to the other 2
Alpha Protocol is the most overlooked RPG which you can purchase it on GOG
Skies of Arcadia, for sure - still my most favourite RPG ever.
Pillars of eternity 1 & 2
If we counting JRPG then i would like to add Legend of Heroes Trails series from Sky to Reverie, i had not heard nor picked up on this series until Cold Steel which is the 6th franchise, it wasnt until i played Cold Steel that i found out how good the story and characters were.
Can we get x-men legends remakes please I love those games
Psy has the greatest shout ever! I've played eternal sonata and even I forgot about that
X-men legends!
Thank you Josh! Although it was the Legendary Edition, not Legacy edition. And ME3 definitely is better than ME1, it’s a phenomenal game up until the last 15ish mins. Sucks that they didn’t bring back the multiplayer cuz it was fantastic and I still regularly play it to this day.
Heavy on the X-Men Legends 1&2.....
Eternal sonata was the perfect answer. Lost Odyssey is a good one too. Some of the best rpgs but stuck on an old system
Shadow Madness on PS1 is greatly overlooked
Xcom: The Bureau, if its an RPG its very light, but think it deserves more love
Im gonna go with the Disgaea series and Yggdra Union. Honorable mention to The Surge 2 and Riviera: The Promised Land.
loved Disgaea 2.
Legend of Legaia: If Tekken made a JRPG. Also one of the first fully 3D RPGs
Brave Fencer Musashi: Legend of Zelda starring Myamoto Musashi w/ blue hair & it has a day night cycle.
Tales of The Abyss: Really good Tales game that doesn't seem to return.
Tales of Legendia: Not nearly as good but the main character punched people and I never got to play it.
I would say Radiant Historia. Amazing game stuck on handheld so never could get big console attention
Aside From The Jank And Unpolished Ways, I Feel Like ELEX 2 Is Definitely One Of The Good Overlooked Ones
It may not be overlooked or great, but i have to say Hunter the reckoning. Loved that game when i was younger.
Panzer Dragoon Saga - one of the greatest games ever made (and my personal favourite of all time) and yet it is never mentioned by anyone in any of these 'overlooked / forgotten / cult classic / desperately needs a remake' lists.
Good game, not mega RPG
Champions of Norrath
Kingdom of Amalur (hope I spelled that right) but I loved this game still do play it from time to time but I feel it was a way better game than it got credit for but I’m 40 and not really in the gaming world that’s what I listen and watch y’all for! Much love from HHI, SC.
Regarding Dragons Dogma 2, I wouldn’t say I’ve “missed out” because I still plan on playing it. I’m just waiting for solid sale so I don’t support the practices I don’t like
Legend of Dragoon!
Golden Sun, Lunar Knights, Solar Boy Django.
Ok. We're is soul blazer and dark cloud gonna end up!?....
Def Jam Fight For New York: The Takeover (psp)
Even if you don't like hip-hop, it's a great fighting game worthy of a play through, shame that it won't come to consoles.
Bring back X-men legends! Love loved loved those games!
Marvel heroes omega was fantastic, sad they shut down years back.
I actually agree that mass effect 3 is really good ... the ending yeah, but if you forget that ending from the star child on after that part it's a really good game. Also no XENOGEARS love ouch
I support you Josh! The journey outweighs the desrinations failings in Mass Effect 3 but the combat is CASH MONEY, the multiplayer to this very day is CASH MONEY, the character scenes are CASH MONEY, dude this game is cash monaaaaaaay and I still love it.
Harbinger can sugma nutz
