Scary to think the IRA wanted a United Ireland but murdered more Catholics than anyone by bombs and bullets. Yet they still lost and are still under British rule
I moved to the oldpark the year this happened it was 3 years in a row I was 10 at the time we had moved over from alliance avenue where our house was burnt out twice by loyalists as it was a peaceline street most of my friends emigrated to Australia and Canada .fast forward 25 years and I'm living at top of Brompton park by myself and the ardoyne riots started , I was only ten doors down from the bookies at the corner I thought here we go again that went on and off for another 5 years .history tends to keep repeating itself and new generations are dragged into the troubles but thankfully the last generation has experienced some kind of normality , as if drugs alcohol and suicide rates aren't enough to contend with.hopefully a brighter future awaits but the dogs of war are always lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce. I'm 46 now back over the oldpark with my mum and the uncertainty over the future is as palpaple as it ever was .
@@samcree3051 alliance avenue was much worse dude we had boards over our windows during the day especially the summer because of the petrol bombs and bottles coming over the peaceline .but the nights when me and my sister were woken up by our mum and sent down the back entry because loyalists were attacking the street , I'll never forget that .there were times they were at the front door and my dad had steel bars from work trying to keep the door closed you know even at the age of 8 if they get through my dad's gonna be killed as I said all my friends emigrated and we were due to move to Newry as my mum was pregnant with my younger brother and the house at the top of ardoyne avenue near the junction of oldpark road came up at the last minute , then the trouble started over there because loyalists from Torrens estate tried to march down oldpark road every summer.

Ireland unfree will never be at peace
