Captain America may not be my favourite superhero but he was one of the first I was introduced to because my dad loves the John Byrne comics. That’s always made him kinda special.

I knew what he meant by bucky being the second cap that’s wasn’t given the title by the government or just took the name, but I love to see you cover Isaiah Bradley or Jeff mace seeing as they took up the same as the second and third Captain America
Whats wild is it was even more retconned than this. The 50's Cap was retconned into existence 1st before Nasland and Mace. Even referenced by Whizzer I think. And a great but sloppy retcon Burnside was, since 1st he was created as the 50's Cap, ignoring that there had been a post WW2 Cap. So that meant they had retconned away any of the post WW2/pre-Korean War Cap adventures. Then shortly after, maybe reezlizing this, they had Whizzer return and in a dramatic scene say the real Cap wasnt the Cap he fought beside (since no Invaders or Liberty Legion yet). And they referenced the "recently" defeated 50's Cap as having been the one Whizzer knew. Which meant Burnside (unnamed yet) had been retconned as having acted before WW2 and now as part of the All Winners Squad. Then they retconned it again, by having Whizzer been an ally of Steve's in WW2 thanks to the Invaders comic, meaning Whizzer had met both. Then thanks to the What If that became quick canon, retconned yet again with the Nasland and Mace Caps creation. And that was just the convoluted, but wonderful history up until the early 80's. I don't even want to look at updates since then, lol.
Already commented, but had to say I love Roy Thomas' style of rectonning best (appropriate considering he coined the term); his embraces the past by weaving the new in without disrespecting the old. Cap, Invaders and All-Star Squadron come to mind as wonderful examples. And little nice touches, like 50's Cap's uniform being slightly different than Steve's reflecting the 50's comics having the waist stripes not extend to the back, or having Earth-Two GA have brown hair as he did in his 1st Golden Age appearance or two.
Just goes to show the impact of Steve Rogers as Captain America, he's probably the most impactful superhero in a narrative ever. Even characters in the omniverse respects him from the likeness of Batman, Superman, Robin & the JL.
Two things. 1. Secret Empire was such a good story. 2. When OG Cap took down hydra cap, there are literally two Steve’s running around now in the 616 reality. No idea when they will bring hydra cap back.
@@SirDot So I was not hallucinating, Hydra Cap did change to the superhero side but then, there's two good Steve Rogers since Jason Aaron has Kobik Captain America. Man, this is just stupidity at its peak. Also, hate how Hydra Cap is being treated like a fool, he was literally the smartest version of Steve Rogers.
I have read a captain America comic where he met with a old woman who survived a nazi death camp, that he rescued back when she was a kid, yet I enjoyed this video, and happy new year to you and yours🥳🎊🎉.
Awesome video, man. If it gets popular enough, I'd love to see a part 2 where you go over AU Captain Americas, or even maybe some of the expys like the Guardian. You're the best, man!
The young Burnside fellow looks like Chucky. Or Annabelle. That Cap and Bucky being put on ice by the government while researching a cure would make a lot more sense if the gov't was trying to replicate the serum again and test the limits of what it makes a human body capable of. Thanks again, Drake!! Cool episode.
Vance was not Captain America, he just fought with the shield, he did not take up the mantle. If you have to put on a list of people who Steve inspired and who fought with his shield, it would be immeasurable.
When Captain America throws a his mighty Shield. All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield. Expect on a plane, or a bomb, or some Ice, a brainwashed Bucky, or a Spider-Man, a Tony Stark or just plain Thanos, they most definitely have to Yield.
Hey Comic Drake. When I was super young I found your channel and it made me enjoy comics even more. Thanks for all these videos I’m realizing I’ve been watching for years. Each video I’ve really enjoyed.
I'm a Captain America fan and this is a great comprehensive run down of his publication history. The older a character is the greater the chance of there being dud storylines and muddy continuity. I love the great stuff and the dumb stuff, I'm looking at you CAPWOLF!!!
5:55 according to Truth Isaiah Bradley was first. And its crazy how even in the comic world America is America and will always shy away from its history.
I love Steve as cap, bucky's cap run was an interesting take on the character, but I love sam's the most. He's always been such a likeable character to me, and I was so excited to see him take on the mantle in falcon and the winter soldier!
Oh wow, that's a hell of a list! It honestly kinda makes me wish we got to do a few of these other in-between Caps in the MCU. Would've been a great time to bring back Jon Berthal's Punisher, maybe had Clint take up the mantle for an hour, bring in that one kid as an antagonist for Bucky. That's the benefit of comics, I guess - stuff like Cap's death can affect everyone at once, instead of having everyone take turns and dragging it out for a year.
Hey good video as always glad to see all the caps get the love they deserve. Just so ya know William burnside is still alive, in a later issue when Steve was captain America again they found him and brought him to a hospital after he was hit by a truck. There Steve said they faked his death so he could live a normal life from now on. Despite being the “evil” captain America I like how he is a good guy at heart and usually ends up as the bad guy due to his poor mental state or other villains using him. Hell even Steve said that he was grateful for his service but from now on he’ll carry the burden of being cap so it’s nice that Steve respects him despite their differences. Really underrated captain America
i understand if you don't want to do much more of this video type, but more comic drake is something i'll never say no to, and a 26 minute video is fantastic. can't wait for more
I made the same mistake when reading the “Truth” mini-series! I believe that he was the 1st, before Steve, only to be retconned to be #2! I’ve been sharing that story until this day! Thanks for clarifying!
Yeah well I preferred the Truth miniseries to have it be set before Steve became Captain America since it makes the story more interesting and it also lets the reader sees what was life for African Americans back in the war and how they were treated.
While he doesn't meet your requirements for this video at all, I would like to give a shout out to Scott Summers AKA Cyclops, who took up the shield in an alternate universe where all the mutants lost their powers and that also caused Steve's Serum to not work anymore.
I wonder if they'll ever have Sharon Carter take up the mantle. From the looks of things she's one of the only supporting characters for Cap who hasn't picked up the shield and I think it'd be neat even if the bad Marvel fans whine about it
The anti SJWs would lose their minds. They're already having a huge problem with a black guy being cap...... if they gave the shield to a WAHMEN theyd lose their shit?!?!?! Of course it would give them more content then them hating on Brie larson does.....
I think it would make more sense if one side of Steve's family were Irish immigrants while the other side were descendants of Steven Rogers

Comic Drake, you never told us you were once Captain America!
Honestly, Jeff Mace and Isaiah Bradley are pretty underrated versions of Cap in my eyes.
The coffee pour though! 😂😂😂
Leaving a comment for the algorithm 💪 You’re the best Drake!!!
Hydra-Cap/ Stevil was already killed 6 months after SE had ended. And no, they are definitly not bringing him back
Hydra Steve's in the current Cap run by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
@@SirDot ...I should be suprised, but then I remember we're talking about comics were death is just another word for vaccation
I will say I have fallen in love with captian america with the recent events of the marvel universe
What recent events in the Marvel Universe? I haven't really seen a good Captain America comic in years, unless you meant Marvel 'Cinematic' Universe.
As a Cap fan, I approve 🇺🇸
I have read a captain America comic where he met with a old woman who survived a nazi death camp, that he rescued back when she was a kid, yet I enjoyed this video, and happy new year to you and yours🥳🎊🎉.
3:55 Entirely possible one of his ancestors moved to Ireland with an Irish wife, then when the Great Famine of 1845 struck they fled to America.
You missed the Serial Move Cap which at some point Marvel explained in a comic how and why he fits in.
They have a character named Burnside that got burned... quite the irony.
Awesome video, man. If it gets popular enough, I'd love to see a part 2 where you go over AU Captain Americas, or even maybe some of the expys like the Guardian. You're the best, man!
Can we talk about how my man has some serious guns for holding that big ass mug for so long
you guys havent posted in sooooo long i missed youuuuu guysssss
Uh no? This channel always has regular uploads.
@@ComicDrake lol I just love ur videos, I guess It just felt like that to me.
I am irish and I'm glad steve has irish origins
You should’ve add Vance Astro aka Major Victory. Steve Rogers inspired Vance to be the man he is today in future and the Present.
Vance was not Captain America, he just fought with the shield, he did not take up the mantle. If you have to put on a list of people who Steve inspired and who fought with his shield, it would be immeasurable.
19:49 Best line of the entire video 🖤
I was hoping Steve would say: "Well he's _my_ Captain America." about Sam.
Won't be able to catch it live but super excited to watch it after
Fantastic and in depth video on the complex legacy of Captain America. Greatly appreciated!
Oh shit. I had no idea the Cap and Falcon show premise was lifted from the Gruenwald years.
16:56 looks like John Cena
What a straightforward and simple timeline of events
Like your shirt. It reminds me of the Iron Patriot armor.
Incredible video Drake! Keep up the great work!
Captain America? That’s the guy from Fortnite, right?
@@thegoodwitchluzura r/wooosh
5:55 according to Truth Isaiah Bradley was first. And its crazy how even in the comic world America is America and will always shy away from its history.
In “Truth” Isaiah doesn’t get experimented on until 1942. Steve was already active as Cap and a part of the Invaders in 1941.
I love Steve as cap, bucky's cap run was an interesting take on the character, but I love sam's the most. He's always been such a likeable character to me, and I was so excited to see him take on the mantle in falcon and the winter soldier!
HOW IS NOONE TALKING ABOUT THAT COFFEE CUP
this is great drake! good work! i know that this probably took forever but i think a longer format rly suits your videos
Really underrated captain America
commenting so that youtube picks you up. the hard work was worth it, this vid is amazing !!!
So is Marvel Studios going to do something similar to the sentient cosmic cube to bring Chris Evans back as Captain America?
Drake: Should I rest a little bit??
We: Yes take your time buddy
Also Drake: I'm gonna do one of my most complicated videos about guys wearing flags
Now I want a series following Jeff Mace as either Captain America or even as Patriot.
You should watch Agents of SHIELD then, Jeff Mace shows up as the Patriot in that show.
I'm a huge Cap fan and I missed some of the entries you mentioned. Thank you - I'll definitely be looking into them :)
i understand if you don't want to do much more of this video type, but more comic drake is something i'll never say no to, and a 26 minute video is fantastic. can't wait for more
I made the same mistake when reading the “Truth” mini-series! I believe that he was the 1st, before Steve, only to be retconned to be #2! I’ve been sharing that story until this day! Thanks for clarifying!
Yeah well I preferred the Truth miniseries to have it be set before Steve became Captain America since it makes the story more interesting and it also lets the reader sees what was life for African Americans back in the war and how they were treated.
i bet he didnt even drink all of that coffee
Always nice seeing you posted
Great video man! You are a thorough researcher and it shows
That shirt is amazing 😂 video was great Drake 😌
I was looking forward to this and it didn’t disappoint. Great job!
Here's an idea... the Brotherhood of Assassins from Assassin's Creed Vs. either the League of Assassins or the Court of Owls in the DC Universe
