H/H match update: ... Today's action: After 8 games and $18,750 in winnings, our reigning champion was defeated in the final moments of yesterday's program, and so we begin today with our newest champion facing her first Super-Match. Today's (first) audience match question: " ________ Tonic" (My thoughts: Gin and, Hair, ???) The celebs: Richard (Gin and), Brett (hair), Charles (Vodka and) The choice: Hair The answers: Spring, Hair, Gin and Now who will our new champion select for her first head-to-head partner? She called on the three regulars, but picked Richard first. Him? She took Brett's answer. Her? Contestants often pick the celeb who gave the top answer on the board, but when you think about it, for the H/H, what's important is choosing a celeb who thinks of the same answer you do (even if it isn't the top answer on the audience board). By that logic, if the contestant choose "hair" because that's the first thing she thought of, Brett might be the better choice for the big money match... She seems undecided, and for a second I thought she was looking up at the top tier. Finally she calls on Richard. Richard has had well over a week's "vacation" from his role as main H/H celebrity, not having played since episode 815. He's matched six of his 20 most recent attempts (30.0%). But before he plays, he gets his familiar little shot in: "Why didn't you choose me and get 'gin and tonic'? We would have been playing for $5,000." The contestant seems at a loss for words. Patti interjects, telling Richard: "Oh, don't be angry!" Today's H/H question: "_______ Artist" (Con came to mind first. I'll stick with it. My second choice would be makeup.) Richard doesn't seem to have an immediate response today as he often does. He's scratching as he ponders. Finally, he shakes his head and begins to write. His answer looks to be at least five or six letters and he punctuates it with a dot -- either a period or an "i." He doesn't look confident as he files his card. Our new champion surprises me by saying "models and artist." That sounds extremely unlikely to match. Charles and Brett chime in, saying that this was a particularly tough H/H question. Gene offers "makeup," saying it was the only thing he had thought of. All eyes on Richard now for the big reveal: "Portrait." -- I can see why he didn't seem confident about that answer. Yuck. No match today. ~~~ A fairly quick game spells defeat for our new champion who spins away with $350, and our new-new champion takes center stage! Today's (second) audience match question: " Arc ________" (My thoughts: de Triomphe, -hetype, ???) The celebs: Richard (de Triomphe), Charles (light), Brett (-ade) The choice: Rival (???) The answers: Light, Angel, de Triomphe No second H/H question today. Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 50.8% (30 wins in 59 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 41.0% (204 wins in 498 attempts). -- 40.9638% Brett - 40.9% (27 wins in 66 attempts). -- 40.9090% Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 822, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Patti was so funny in an odd, quirky sort of way. Even Patti's voice was unique and cute. One thing I didn't understand -- the opening, when they're introducing each of celebrities. Most of the panelists have something written on a card. Patti always slowly turns to the camera. Is Patti trying to look funny? Seductive? Elegant? Just sort of looks out of character, or I'm just not getting the joke.
It is an odd, sort of confused/lost puppy look she gives. I think she's trying to give off "weirdo" vibes, but I'm with you, it does seem out of character. She always seemed very intelligent, not vapid, as that expression would indicate.
I can't believe Charle's answer to the "Headless Horseman" question. He must have misheard and thought that the horse was talking. But that's still weird, because it's such a popular and enduring legend. Was CNR just not paying attention on that one?
At 13:35 she says she's going to kill herself on the air. Gene asked the crowd how they felt about it and they cheered. Then he told her to wait for a Nielsen ratings week.....
Yeah, I agree; Brett's awesome! saint Richard and constant whining when someone doesn't choose him, on the other hand, is QUITE annoying! (also, I'm ok with all the jerks hating on Brett because if you've been reading the comments over the last 3 months, you know that more people loved than hated her.
I have to disagree. Gene, made Match Game very funny. There’s not been another game that could compare. Now a days everything a person says offends somebody! Cry babies 🙇🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
The show was cast around Gene and Richard. Brett and Charles didn't come along for quite awhile and I'll bet they were on a trial basis. It worked out well. But once Richard left the show it was all over no matter who was left.
It's arch rival but it is also Archangel. The $100 response was Angel but it should have been spelled hangel (to fill in the blank). Nobody says Arc Rival but given the variety of pronunciations, I can see how that could happen.
I wouldn't even wish that on saint Richard (Brett probably knew that people liked to make fun of her so she had a low opinion of herself.... I know what that feels like)
Yeah. I'm sure, at the time, they didn't know it would have a short run, barely a season. The role I liked her best for was in a teen movie called ALMOST SUMMER.
I was really rooting for the smart career chick. But arc rival? Yikes...
I thought starving artist.

RIP, Patti Deutch who passed away from cancer on July 26, 2017 at age 73..very funny lady.....

@@MikeSebastianVideos she's kind of doing the Ruth Buzzy thing, gets old though
@@MikeSebastianVideos she looks very bored in those shots.
Ugh

"...and she had a lovely pair." Haha!
Good outfit for Gene.
The mom of three, carried over from the previous episode, maintained a trim, nice figure.
MILF perhaps
She looks like she is into plastic surgery so maybe had something done
@@garfield2439 yes, she has a mannequin look. Kind of like a stepford wife personality too.
I like Brett's hair in this episode! It's her hair and it's done lovely!
I know it was in fun but Brett never shuts up!
She is unbearable.
It's too much she gets on my nerves
It would be weird without her though. I've watched every episode in order until this one and she hasn't missed one episode.
At 13:35 she says she's going to kill herself on the air. Gene asked the crowd how they felt about it and they cheered. Then he told her to wait for a Nielsen ratings week.....

DID they wear that type of shirt Richard has on, on ships in the 1800s
It's ugly
He has worn it a lot.
Looks Like Its A Teens Style
@@dannyroybal7394 maybe it was his son"s.
It looks like something Charles would've won. Charles was a man of the Sea also.
Con artist.
This show would have made it without Gene - would have made it without Ricky D. but not have survived without the interplay of CNR and Brett.

Starving Artist
That was my thought.
That Dick Martin was a bad panelist. He really tried hard not to match, he just wanted laughs.
That describes Patti perfectly!
They put those panelists in seats 1 and 6.
He just didn't take the show seriously. Again, he didn't bother bringing extra wardrobe for the weeks worth of episodes.
I don't think so. I think he just didn't have a lot of practice
@@garfield2439 I think this was Dick"s 2nd week of shows ( I forgot when he on the 1st time) but he got better on some of the shows I have watched,
Sketch artist
Bullshit artist, I know a few
Free spirit flying! ;0) ROFL! Another good episode I think. ;0) Repeat first question? ;0) Love ya Pattie! ;0)
this contestant is so flirty with her tongue licking her lips
Noticed that, too. And her voice. Dug it.
“Arc-rival” was highly “arc-ane”
She Goofed Under Pressure. Archives
18:25.....very rare to see a brunette have a blonde moment....lol

Of course, all of us nerds said arc-tangent.
Why does a married woman with kids act so ditsy for attention???
Ovaltine....not 'teen' !!
I wish Brett wouldn't joke about "killing herself" I don't find that a funny subject
Aw, Diddums...
I agree. And Gene telling her to do it during the Neilson ratings week. Not nice.
I wouldn't even wish that on saint Richard

@@kristabrewer6736--YOU should . Perhaps if you would shut you mouth( remarks) people wouldn't pick on you.
I've never seen the TV show, "The Practice", hence, I have no idea who Didi Conn is.
She played Frenchy in the Grease movies.
Yeah. I'm sure, at the time, they didn't know it would have a short run, barely a season. The role I liked her best for was in a teen movie called ALMOST SUMMER.
Later had a role in Benson.
Loved the show
Has anyone seen the episode that Betty is talking about at the end of the video at 2:50?
