Cherries are not "optional" in black forest cake. In fact it is the most important ingredient. Otherwise that's not a black forest. Moreover cherry syrup/juice is a must to soak the cake sponge. Also I'd like to add, the given measurement of ingredients isn't correct for a black forest cake. Please don't mislead people 🙏🏻.
