Never thought im gonna watch a CGR review in 24 but here i am

I never played this game, but just looking at it and watching reviews makes me think, it's better than Codemasters' F1 games. I don't really like those F1 games. It lacks of sense of speed, the damage modeling is poor, the sounds are bad and boring, however, this game looks superior to the new F1 series. I wish, I had a PS3, I would enjoy this, I'm sure. Also, I loved this era of F1 more than today's F1... it's just getting ruined by FIA...
Last time I played a codemasters game was 2012, then I remembered this game and how much I loved it. So I bought it for 99p from Amazon and played it for months until my PS3 broke. Id still play it but first I need to get the damn thing fixed.
This was my go to F1 game from 2006 until 2010 when F1 2010 by Codemasters came out. Ever since I pretty much never looked back, but this is still a great game in the F1 franchise.
this looks real, whenever they have F1 on tv i only like it when they show the cockpit view but they show it for like 5 seconds then back to blah, this is sick cuz i can play in that perspective gonna pick this one up for 13 bucks
Sony Liverpool had been making console Formula One games for quite some years and this is their final realization. Once force feedback was added (about 1 year after release) the Driving Force Pro became an awesome peripheral for this deep racer. I highly recommend it for serious racing fans.
Hey Mark you mentioned Spy Hunter during this review... got me to thinking, has there been any attempts at an up to date Spy Hunter title for any of the current gen. consoles? if not, now would be a good time for a reboot on that game. great review btw.
I absolutely love this game and still play it even with codies games out. Codies games may look abit nicer but this games handles and plays much better and the engine sound is the best in a videogame ive heard.
This looks really damn cool. Makes me wish I had a PS3...also makes me wish they'd make a game this detailed for a lot of other series as well. And to add my two cents to the F1 vs. Nascar debate. As long as there's plenty of good competition; it's all damn good racing.
This actually looks really badass. The only formula 1 game that I've really played for any amount of time, or even own, is Andretti Racing for the Playstation. Unforunately the game was released before the Dualshock, which if you've played Gran Turismo, and I know you have Mark, the Dualshock is essential for the available joysticks. Returning to the video, a great video, this game looks stunning, and unforunately I don't have a PS3, but I'll ask my friend if he has picked up or played this one
thats funny cause outside the USA almost anyone knows shit about NASCAR, and it only shows on SPEED channel (like F1 in the USA). I like both (and theyre both great, in fact), just found funny how things are..
The PSP version of this game is what got me into F1. Was hard in the beginning then I got good and got gold times on almost all the tracks. Then I play F1 2010 and was pretty dissapointed. I feel that codemasters don't care as much about as F1 than Liverpool. Liverpool spent then time and effort into modeling all the different racing wheels individually, as opposed to codemasters retexturing the same exaclt racing wheel and pasting it on to all the cars.
F1 06 on the PS2 is already fun and challenging (and time consuming) but this game is probably even better! Someday I`ll have a PS3 and I`ll definitly play it a lot.
This game will never see a sequel, sadly. I bought the F1 2010, 2011 and 2012 by Codemasters and they're good games. But I still play my F1 Championship Edition. It was my 2nd PS3 game and I still enjoy playing it. Superior than any Codemasters title and less buggy. Codemasters game come out on the market with lots of bugs and then they release like 12 patches, it's just sad. I would really love to see the F1 license back again with Sony so that they could produce a sequel of this game.
@Dhekelian you are the only one making any implications here buddy! The point is valid, only I'm not sure it's fair to aim it at the reviewer, assuming that's who you refer to.
this is game is brilliant but he's totally right about the time consuming part about the game, i mean im on career mode at the moment and driving for super aguri and it's brill but im currently at Melbourne trying to finish the Grand Prix and still cant without crashing or retiring due to engine failure etc. it's very tricky. Dont get me wrong, im a very good player. Played and watched f1 since i was like 5 years old but have been in a spot of trouble at the mo. Fantastic game though :)
f1 2010 should be awesome though, because it's being made by codemasters. the crashing levels will go right up i should think, and they will keep all the realism and great graphics too ;)
Yes, unfortunately for some people. Luckily for you (and me, since I prefer xbox 360 even though I have a PS3) Codemasters is making an F1 game right now. There's no set release date, but most people seem to think that it will be out in October...*shrugs*
@DEATHMOBER1 Another thing that I don't like about NASCAR is how technologically backwards it is. They still use carburetors and other devices that have been obsolete even on street cars for years. One of the thing I like about F1, and to less extent, IndyCar, is how the technology trickles down to street cars. A lot of technology that is just reaching our road cars (such as paddle shifters) has been commonplace on F1 cars for years
nice... we need a good F1 game for the PC, luckily Codemasters is taking the task... What I didnt like here it seems that wheels fly off for anything more than just a nudge... in fact F1 wheels are firmly attached so they wont fly, even when they do break, they stay attached to the car... Graphics look great, love the shadowing
I LOVE FORMULA 1 Racing! Hell I love all racing!!! BUT F1 is my favorite kind of racing because all the teams have to design their own car and race it. ITS The wrold championship of racing and all the best drivers compete in it like Raikkonen, Hamilton, and Kubica
Agus tenes razon muy buena opiñon igual hasta ahora el juego que se asemeja mas en la realidad en el tema de accidentes etc es el toca 3 para ps2 o para pc si es que esta si sabes de alguno mejor porfavor decimelo
sony should have the license back, i bet they would do a much better game than codemasters, it will look like this game but a couple of improvements such as: clouds in motion on the track, mirrors and spoilers tremble for speed and every time the car goes of the track would be perfect . and hands and steering wheel were like codemasters games, would be the best game of all.
I'm not an owner of either a PS3 or a XBOX 360 so I am saying this unbiasedly. It's not the PS3 that makes only the wheels come off, it's the game. You can't say a console sucks because a game sucks, it just doesn't make sense. Every system has shitty games, so does that mean that every system sucks?
@MrGreenbay1 I have been to a F1 race a the cars sound really diferent from what you hear on tv or video games. You can actualy hear the cars engines before you even see the race track =)
this game fucking rules...i think this does a better job at making the 'live the life' slogan more aparent than in todays f1 games. such a shame they didnt make an f1 game based on 2009 on ps3
Ok now i got it after reading the posts. I was thinking how come this 2007 game to me looks better than the F1 2012 ahhhh different company and it appears more people like this than F1 2012. Well I hate Codemasters they make games so UN-realistic that you can't get around one lap without destroying your car so I'm gonna go with this game the water effects are waaaaay better than F1 2012 Peace
disturbedrocks1996 In Need For Speed you go off road and your car slows a little but its not noticable in Grid you drive on the grass and you slow to almost stopped and even if you crank the wheel completey left your car goes right into the wall. hmmmm apparently codemasters think grass is a magnetic field designed to destroy cars, yea but I'm the problem for thinking you can drive a car on grass. HOW COME AT ROCK CONCERTS WHEN PEOPLE PARK ON GRASS FIELDS MADE INTO PARKING LOTS EVERYONE DOESN'T CRASH AND THERE CARS GET DESTROYED! according to codemasters thats exactly what happens when cars go on grass for any distance. you sir are a moron for thinking codemasters are intelligent. the DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED know that grass doesn't affect cars all that much!
James Cage Did you really just compare an arcade type racing game like Need For Speed to a game that is supposed to simulate actual racing? Also, I have no idea what the fuck game you're playing, but I've played F1 2012 more times than I can count and not ONCE has going onto the grass slowed the car in any noticeable way other than proving a little bit less grip for a few moments. Just like it does in real life. If you were referring to the gravel pits they are DESIGNED to stop or at the very least slow down a Formula 1 car that's gone off the circuit to prevent driver injury. Just like in real life. If you smack into the guardrail and snap off the front wing or wheels there is a VERY easy to find difficulty menu that can be adjusted to have NO damage occur to the car regardless of circumstance whether it be in Career, Quick Race, etc. Don't bash Codemasters just because you suck at their game, you obnoxious little cunt.
disturbedrocks1996 your obnoxious you want realism in a video game GET A REAL FU^%ING CAR BUDDY. games are suppossed to be fun! NEED FOR SPEED JUST CRUSHES any codeassblaster game
disturbedrocks1996 yea but nobody likes codemasters and NFS is the highest grossing racing series of all time beating gran turismo and forza so that not only makes your taste in fun lame, it also means your a fu%$ing idiot to boot. hahahhahahahhahahaha
I played the demo of this in 2007. 12 years later; I think I’m going to buy it.
Never thought im gonna watch a CGR review in 24 but here i am

This game has the best sound effects and engine sounds that I've ever heard
Αυτό το παιχνίδι έχει τα καλύτερα ηχητικά εφέ και ήχους κινητήρα έχω ακούσει ποτέ
Still the best F1 game to ever be released
The best F1 game ever made, long before Codemasters came
This game is still miles better than any of the F1 games Codemasters have made since 2010.
+john doe no
it is from Studio Liverpool (Psygnosis), there was no chance of it being on 360
Ger Foley - This is not made by Codemasters and this is a PS3 exclusive
Ger Foley f1 2017 is actually very good
What surprises me in this awesome game is the fact that you can play this as an arcade game, or change it up to a total simulator.
Last time I played a codemasters game was 2012, then I remembered this game and how much I loved it. So I bought it for 99p from Amazon and played it for months until my PS3 broke. Id still play it but first I need to get the damn thing fixed.
The sense of speed is SO much better than the Codemasters games.
im getting this game for christmas, it's going to be awesome
This was my go to F1 game from 2006 until 2010 when F1 2010 by Codemasters came out. Ever since I pretty much never looked back, but this is still a great game in the F1 franchise.
I'm more of a stock car kind of guy, but it was good to see a review on this game. well done.
this looks real, whenever they have F1 on tv i only like it when they show the cockpit view but they show it for like 5 seconds then back to blah, this is sick cuz i can play in that perspective gonna pick this one up for 13 bucks
James Cage I was spectating a 100% race and when my brother came it He thought for a while it was a real race for a while
Sony Liverpool had been making console Formula One games for quite some years and this is their final realization. Once force feedback was added (about 1 year after release) the Driving Force Pro became an awesome peripheral for this deep racer. I highly recommend it for serious racing fans.
Thanks for posting this review. One of your better ones.
Keep in mind of Tire wear brake disc heat and over-reving, Clean races is crucial to success.
Hey Mark you mentioned Spy Hunter during this review... got me to thinking, has there been any attempts at an up to date Spy Hunter title for any of the current gen. consoles? if not, now would be a good time for a reboot on that game. great review btw.
Wheel pop-off simulator would have been a less appealing name for this game.
Downloaded the demo on PSN just a few weeks ago, man I was impressed. Still looks good, and plays even better :)
It seems that you are now a huge fan of F1. I watched your review on F1 2012 and you seemed to be a real F1 enthusiast.
Oh how you've changed
Looking forward to seeing screenshots of the next F1 game, and for the Wii, which should hopefully be exciting.
I really liked this game, It reminds me of the old Formula 1 game from Psygnosis for PSX.
And is there any trailer/gameplay of the new version available? When is it gonna be released?
I absolutely love this game and still play it even with codies games out. Codies games may look abit nicer but this games handles and plays much better and the engine sound is the best in a videogame ive heard.
This looks really damn cool. Makes me wish I had a PS3...also makes me wish they'd make a game this detailed for a lot of other series as well.

I always thought about getting this...I think I will now....looks pretty sick

Good review, keep up the good work :)
Of all things this game has much superior AI to any of the new codemasters F1 games.
There was also one released around 2002 or 2003, though I haven't played it. I think it was available for all 3 systems.
When 480p was HD
This game looks pretty bad ass. I will have to check it out for sure. Awesome review.
Good review - thanks! I liked your spin move; I can ocassionally pull one of those off in GT5P lol.
After watching this review I think I might buy the game. nice review
The PSP version of this game is what got me into F1. Was hard in the beginning then I got good and got gold times on almost all the tracks. Then I play F1 2010 and was pretty dissapointed. When was this game released, is it bought by PSN or Disc? Sorry, I never heard of this game and i would like to know
F1 06 on the PS2 is already fun and challenging (and time consuming) but this game is probably even better! Someday I`ll have a PS3 and I`ll definitly play it a lot.
I got a copy on eBay for only $11.00, it was a steal. I love this game! Obviously the person who sold it didn't appreciate the game!
This game will never see a sequel, sadly. I bought the F1 2010, 2011 and 2012 by Codemasters and they're good games. But I still play my F1 Championship Edition. I would really love to see the F1 license back again with Sony so that they could produce a sequel of this game.
paddle shifters started 1989 with ferrari and by 1996 all f1 teams had paddle shifters
july 2009 f1 2009 comes out for xbox 360, ps3, psp and pc
F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport,it makes indycart look like it's from the 70's..just listen to the engine noise
@Dhekelian you are the only one making any implications here buddy! The point is valid, only I'm not sure it's fair to aim it at the reviewer, assuming that's who you refer to.
You gotta love these underrated racing games. :)
The new one is coming out on Xbox 360 in 2010 I think. Enjoy
@formula1troy 'F1 2010' is out for 360, PS3 and PC later this year. Probably just before Christmas =)
@pyg15
Don't see why not,it was a PS3 launch title.
It was confirmed on the F1 website i believe. But, things change. I hope it stays confirmed for the Wii.
do you know which console this is available for?? thanks;)
@SuperGoodguy2010 well it is. but this feature was abandoned before release.
wow this game has an amazing sense of speed
could this game use the sixaxis feature when you tilt the remote the car turns and stuff?
Great review. The F1 championship edition is a remake of FI 06 so the graphix were amazing but the driver roster was outdated so it pissed me off.
does this game have any 80s or 90s f1 cars, ayrton senna ect.
this is game is brilliant but he's totally right about the time consuming part about the game, i mean im on career mode at the moment and driving for super aguri and it's brill but im currently at Melbourne trying to finish the Grand Prix and still cant without crashing or retiring due to engine failure etc. it's very tricky. Dont get me wrong, im a very good player. Played and watched f1 since i was like 5 years old but have been in a spot of trouble at the mo. Fantastic game though :)
yea, it comes on on the BBC channel a few times a week, wish we could see more tho
this game is really amazing, at first i thought it would kinda suck, but i really like it
I want this game but can't find it anywhere it looks good.
I completely agree, it plays better too.
it's coming for the Wii and PSP first in the fall, then in spring 2010 it comes out for the Xbox and ps3.
f1 2010 should be awesome though, because it's being made by codemasters. the crashing levels will go right up i should think, and they will keep all the realism and great graphics too ;)

i think F1 should make a game every year like motogp or like pro evolution soccer with new cars and new drivers
i wish they had an f1 challange from 2000-2010 tht would be mint
WELL DONE!

what are people using for steering wheels?
Is it just me or does this look better than F1 2012...anyone played both?
+James Cage This game is miles better than F1 2012 but having said that F1 2010 is also a lot better than 2012
If I find, this game I will buy it no matter what.
I wish they've done this also on the 2005 version since those had V10 cars, these are 2006 V8 cars..
bloodstarve the Toro Rosso was a V10 in 2006
amazing looking gam!!!
nice... we need a good F1 game for the PC, luckily Codemasters is taking the task...

there is F1 09 for the 360 but it aint out yet.
Let's just say this game is better than all the Codemaster games combined.
I enjoyed the N64 formula one game better but I still have and enjoy this one :D
This is defo the best racing game i have ever played. I heard the new one is coming out in March of next year. not sure if thats true or not though
mark can you play this with the logitech driving force gt?
for me this game have far more better graphics than the codemaster´s f1 game...And of course,60 frames per second...
im an f1 fan, and I NEED TO GET THIS
in 2008 360p meant HD?
This game has BMW and Toyota and is therefore better than the newer ones
man!! i really want this game but i can't find it anywhere!
we need an f1 challage1950-2010 lol the gt5 of f1 games
Agus tenes razon muy buena opiñon igual hasta ahora el juego que se asemeja mas en la realidad en el tema de accidentes etc es el toca 3 para ps2 o para pc si es que esta si sabes de alguno mejor porfavor decimelo

They show it everywhere. Well anywhere the BBC has a channel.
You should review F1 2010! (:
Where is the F1 2010 review?
I don't know. I feel like "Speedway!" for the Odyssey 2 had more realistic effects than this verion. Of course, that's just a matter of opinion :)
@MrGreenbay1 I have been to a F1 race a the cars sound really diferent from what you hear on tv or video games. You can actualy hear the cars engines before you even see the race track =)
