    Ex-referee here.
    Why are all the legacy commentators letting EPL referees get away with dreadful performances? Oliver lost control in the opening seconds and made poor decisions for both teams throughout. Some of the yellows weren't yellows and he missed others that should have given.
    Yes it's a difficult game to referee but if you're not good enough and you're not up to the job, then you shouldn't be holding the whistle in the EPL.

      The pundits are probably hesitant to speak up because they also take money from the Middle East.

    • @GamerFlair
      @GamerFlair Місяць тому +12

      The problem with Oliver is that if you call it out... its really problematic. Oliver isn't a bad referee. He isn't inconsistant. His a good referee and he is consistant. Unless the game involves Man City or thier title rivals, at which point he consistantly makes poor decisions that generally favour City and disfavour thier title rivals.
      The consistancy at which it occurs in the inherent problem. Its shows that he isn't a bad referee, his just a bent one. And whilst they can get away with saying a referee was poor once in a while, if they say the referee is corrupt (which he is) they will get in trouble, either legally if there isn't enough proof or just via being blacklisted by referees assosiations for calling up the dodgy payments that they take from Middle Eastern states.

    The complaint isn't about Trossard's card, it's the fact that 15 incidents of 'delaying the restart' occurred between Rice and Trossard's cards, without any action.
    Including same ref Michael Oliver not giving Szoboslai a second yellow last week for hoofing the ball far longer after blowing the whistle than Trossard did.

    A lot has been made in recent years of the wave of Pep-style play. i.e. "playing out from the back" and extending the length of the pitch. That philosophy cost 6 or 7 goals this weekend when keepers and defenders gave the ball away sloppily inside 25 yards of the goal. How do fans forgive that kind of play? It's incredible. I understand there's an element of practice to improve but even Chelsea couldn't play out against West Ham for love nor money. It's so frustrating to watch players who aren't natural "ball-players" try and dispense the ball up the pitch. I won't say the league is crying out for more long ball style but certain teams need to understand the pressure in a given scenario and use the release valve.

Only reason they scored was because Grealish went rogue and managed to produce something. Before Rodri’s injury, city looked like they were going to walk all over Arsenal. Then they dropped their heads and let Arsenal back into the game.

You can kind of understand why Arteta did it after getting utterly lambasted and ripped apart by pretty much everyone in the media last season for not having a go at The Etihad. Well, he had a go this time, got the lead but unfortunately for him and Arsenal their discipline really cost them.
