Rachel is the best! I do the Texas Eagle once a year Chicago to San Antonio, round trip, and I always love it, but with Rachel, it is extra special. I take my next trip in a couple of months, and I can't wait.
I used to take this train a lot! Before the pandemic this train had a glass topped Sightseer Lounge car where passengers could view the passing scenery! It also featured a full service dining car that served freshly prepared food! The food service today is reheated tv dinners! I would eagerly ride it again if both are returned! Supposedly, the lounge will return sometime next year, likely by spring.
@@valroze1647 Not on the Texas Eagle. The Sunset Limited has them, meaning passenger on the thru cars the Texas Eagle drops off in San Antonio to continue on to LA get to enjoy both. But if you’re heading east, the Sunset’s lounge and full diner continue east to New Orleans, but the Eagle itself doesn’t have either for passengers continuing to points north of San Antonio.
I just did Cleveland to Chicago for the Texas Eagle to Tucson for a few days. Then on to L.A. to get on the Coast Starlight to Seattle. Spent a few day there and took the Empire Builder back to Chicago and then onto Cleveland. Going to NYC on May, love Amtrak!
I live in Plano (Dallas area) & I'm back home in Chicago (Downers Grove) every year for Christmas. I've always wanted to take the train, but when I looked into pricing, I could''ve sworn that the train tickets were more expensive! Happy to see Union Station in my hometown!
We took Amtrak from Austin to Ft. Worth one time for Xmas to go visit my mother in law, the kids loved it. It wasn't too long of a trip and was nice just watching the scenery go by. Definitely recommend the experience if you have never taken a ride before on Amtrak.

What a treat to see Big Boy rolling down the track! The last time it came through Texas was on it's innaugural US tour in 2019. I drove a couple hours to go see it, but it was already stopped. Still, worth the drive for me. I think it goes out each year, but not always through the entire US Heartlamd route, so you were fortunate to see it.
My first trip on an Amtrak was from Austin to Dallas. We bought the general admission tickets so I could get the initial experience. The food was um interesting, and the restrooms were nasty. The seats were old but large, and the windows seemed to haven't been cleaned for 10 years. I once saw the train staff during the 4-hour trip, but they seemed cool. The ride was smoother than I thought, and the scenic route was beautiful and peaceful. I would do it again, but might have to try buying the room with its own bathroom facilities and bringing my own food.
I have taken the AMTRAK 1 story newer Viewliner 2 train from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale to North Carolina 3 times in the Roomette. It has a Sink inside the room. Didn't know that some trains do not have a Sink in the room. FYI the Florida to New York and back route is ALWAYS packed and the First Class rooms are almost always SOLD OUT even though they are Very Very Expensive.
Wow I bet that is such a cool journey to do first class on! I want to try that route at some point and I am glad you mentioned this so I know to book far in advance

The Sunset Limited like the other western trains have returned to "traditional dining," but alas many of the eastern trains including the Texas Eagle north of San Antonio, and the City of New Orleans, continue with the "flexible dining" heated up pre-prepared entrees...
We took a day train trip from Buffalo, NY to NYC for 7-8 hours! It was so relaxing to ride Amtrak that I easily slept half the time! Food and wine was expensive, so was shared!

Thank you for this video! We live in Austin, Texas, and are looking forward to going on this trip. The food is rather off-putting. Amtrak needs to do better by offering healthier options.
A beautiful train and this steam locomotive is even better! Steam locomotives still run in Poland and there are always a lot of observers, even from Germany
I took the same trip 35 years ago from Dallas to Chicago to visit friends. I wasn’t in a private sleeper / area, I was alone with very little money and it was cold. Should have brought a blanket. Lol
I took a long train trip in the early 90s, but travelled coach. Dallas to San Antonio to Phoenix, then a bus to Flagstaff to Chicago, then to NYC. The trip back was NYC to Chicago, then Dallas. The trip from Chicago to Dallas was far better because the train had an extra passenger car and I was able to sleep across a couple of seats. Definitely recommend sleeper compartments for long distance train travel.
The station in Austin isn't large like Dallas or San Antonio, because there's only two trains that stop there. One northbound and one southbound every day. It does make for a nice weekend trip to Dallas or San Antonio from Austin.
Chicago,Chicago that wonderfull town 🎶🎶 great video mac, the cabine was maybe a little to small and the food good be beter, but it was a nice trip whit the train, i love the country site, special the farmers land, open and wide, just like my country in the north of the Netherlands.thanks for sharing this video en see you in the next one, maybe in a other train.😀👍🤳
My apologies. I didn’t get to finish your video before I commented. I finally got a chance to & realize you learned about the Big Boy. Enjoyed your video.
Just before the pandemic and during it a retired Delta Airlines CEO became the President of Amtrak, a political appointment, who taught Amtrak about pre-prepared airline food Amtrak calls "flexible dining." Amtrak's previous short order cook diner food is called "traditional dining." When passenger traffic dropped significantly, over 80 percent, Amtrak had to reduce services from daily to trice weekly, furloughed many employees especially in the diner, and had to create "flexible dining," as there were no short order chefs. Of course everyone prefers the traditional diner short order food. At least Amtrak fed you with something better than a bag of peanuts, you didn't go hungry. But is that pre-prepared heated up entree and meal worth $45 Amtrak charges? Crackel Barrel offers better food for much less. Sadly Amtrak has had difficulty recruiting new diner staff since the pandemic as many of the previous diner staff found other restaurant jobs when they were furloughed that doesn't involve spending days far from home on a train. Hopefully Amtrak will return all of their trains with diners to "traditional dining" soon...
Thanks for sharing. I'd be leaving out of Houston and it'd be a bit more complicated since I'd have to switch trains in Longview, TX including a bus ride from one station to a new one to board the "Texas Eagle"...don't know anyone in Chicago but I do have relatives in Saint Louis and it would be cool to ride the train there at least. I'd probably fly home on Southwest Airlines, though. The Eastern Seaboard has the best AmTrak connections and is more like Europe, with the train being a more practical mode of transport. Out West the train is more like a novelty and a luxury mode of travel. If you want to go East from here (Texas), everything routes through Chicago first. There is existing track through the South but no passenger service, only freight, which is a shame but it is what it is.
Amtrak has a direct train from San Antonio going east towards New Orleans. Longview is my home station and it is a lot easier to get anywhere you need to go from there. The only bus ride I can think of you'd be on is from Houston to whatever station is closest to you because Amtrak doesn't serve Houston.
@@Kaas_Frijoles AmTrak does serve Houston, there's a (small) station downtown. I was pricing out a trip to St. Louis, MO where I have relatives and it includes having to change trains in Longview via bus.

They look better on the inside. I live near and use the Amtrak🚆Depot in Marshall, Texas to go and visit my friends and vice versa. The coach roundtrip ticket cost from Marshall, TX to Ft. Worth, TX is between $25 and $40. It is only an hour extra travel time vs 3 hour travel time by vehicle down I-20. The coach seats are a huge recliner type of seat with foot rests and with enough room to where you don't bump elbows with the person next to you.
You must of been tracking me. I do this route often for business. Now that I’ve watched it I am almost positive that we shared this train although I prefer coach for all the reasons you said and didn’t say. Yes the big engine came down I remember this. The bar tender you spoke to she is the best one on the Texas Eagle route
My son just did this, it was cluster fuck going from Austin to Chicago. 8 hrs late leaving and the engine broke down in Illinois. Trip home went as scheduled. Food so, so. Amtrak did give him a voucher for the inconvenience
🎉😮 at the 1:35 mark, the graffitied building in the background ,was used in a movie called DAY X, that i was in. Its on netflix. A zombieish styled movie. 🎉🎉🎉💪🏽💪🏽👍🏼👍🏼😁
I've always thought about taking a train if I've got the time. I loathe the airport, removing shoes, tight seats and hot planes with rowdy kids. But when you mentioned the cost of that one way ticket, I was out. 600 dollars and 2 days travel versus 5 total hours (round trip) of hell in an airport and flight just don't compare.
Nice Vlog! I'm planning on taking a Houston to Chicago train ride. I don't think there's a train directly from Houston. From what I heard, we have to take their bus till Longview, Texas. From there the train ride starts.
Thank you my friend! I really appreciate it, the goal is to increase the amount but the last 12 months I have been doing tons of experimenting to try and find a more creative and unique style. I made soooo many raw videos that I really burned out from it, and now going from a more creative angle has massively reignited my flame! Wow, you were only an hour away from my old hometown, SA. Interesting to see the first class Amtrak. Back in the late 90's my mom and I went coach class from Newark NJ to San Antonio TX. It was a rough journey, lol. We went through Chicago and I lost my favorite band poster I had rolled up with me, for "safe keeping". We got off the train and I leaned it against one of the poles and forgot to pick it up.... my teenage self was devastated ..lol. Looks like we should have sprung the extra bucks for a first class, would have got some sleep maybe. =-)
While it is a luxury to sleep in your own room instead of trying to sleep in coach, it is a luxury I can and will afford. It isn't so much the coach seat that is the problem, it's the other people bustling about in coach either coughing, snoring, or talking. It has been my experience every night on the train is one less night sleeping and eating at a hotel whether flying, driving, or riding on a bus...
@@worldnomac ..yeah, lol, it was my prized, over sized Depeche Mode tour poster. And I was so surprised to find out they had a shower on the Amtrak, that would have def helped not wobbling off the train feeling and smelling like cattle. Speaking of wobbling, did you have any trouble getting your "land legs" back...lol. ;-)
@@ronclark9724 ...that's what made it hard to sleep in coach ..all the coughing, snoring and talking. Got to admit tho, it was cool over hearing the Scottish fellow on board, such a neat accent he had.
Back in the day, we took Amtrak from Grand Forks, ND to Houston. It was miserably uncomfortable but entertaining at the same time. We flew back to ND, though…thank goodness!
We did this from Houston to Chicago and it was horrific, 32 hrs, train kept stopping and going to pick up and drop off passengers . The WiFi was trash! Great if you want to be off grid for a bit and the train view wasn’t all that great.
The meals on the long distance trains east of Chicago and East of San Antonio and the small portion of empire builder which is the Portland to Spokane center for the people in roommates flexible dinning is what they have and it’s prepared before it gets on the train and just reheated on the train since on the routes they do not have a chef on board. The traditional dinning is on all the other long distance trains and called traditional dinning which hsce a chef on board and everything os cooked fresh on the train.

They were waiting for the “Big Boy” steam train!
That’s Mineola lol nothing to do but stare at the train and go to the lake.. maybe Lindale or Tyler.
Great video.
'Bout time you headed down under to New Zealand 🇳🇿
I was there in 2020 I need to come back!
Dude, I think you slept on top of both mattresses. One of those mattresses was supposed to go below on the lower bunk, but no worries.
American discovers train, is blown away
Imagine hanging out to see a steam train and a Amtrak train blocks your view lol
Great vid. Thank you. I love trains, but on this route I’ll take the plane.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed and fair enough, the long route is not for everyone
I have gone from.Austin TX to St Louis MO. sooo mant times. Each trip was great
Cause a periodic trip to Illinois from Texas is a way to stay enlightened.
Whats up bro come back to Nepal its perfect time of the year for Nepal 2.0 series.
Planning going on! I will be there very soon!!
Nice Vlog! I'm planning on taking a Houston to Chicago train ride. I don't think there's a train directly from Houston. From what I heard, we have to take their bus till Longview, Texas. From there the train ride starts.
So there's no parking in Austin where you can leave your vehicle just like the airport garages?
Amazing content, i’ve been following for about 2 years now!
I just hope that you return to posting like before, 2 to 3 videos a week😢
Thank you my friend! I really appreciate it, the goal is to increase the amount but the last 12 months I have been doing tons of experimenting to try and find a more creative and unique style. I made soooo many raw videos that I really burned out from it, and now going from a more creative angle has massively reignited my flame! I am just still working on getting the concept fully right, some videos work some dont
@@worldnomac Happy to hear that Mac!
personally i love your old content style.the video starts right up and some minor editing here and there, that's what originally drove me to your content.
but i think a mix of both styles won't hurt.
best of luck to you!
looking forward for upcoming videos!
That must've been an awesome poster to remember the moment so vivdly! Yeah the exact few bucks did make it worth it to wake up refreshed!
I stowed away on a freight train for free and was there in 24 hours. Nice video
thanks, enjoyed the journey
Thanks, World! Hey, I was just wondering if dinner came with an appetizer? Also, is there any reason you chose the upper bunk instead of the lower?
Excellent Vlog interest journey train 🚉 weldon boy champions congratulations 🎊 😅
Thank you for watching!
Love to see you vloging in train
It’s a great way to travel! Thanks for watching!🙌
Which country is this? It looks like 1970s
Unfortunately.. no chicken thigh on the menu .. mmm lol world Nomac... im surprised u didn't kick up a stink about that oversight 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤
Mac am so excited to see Chicago. Is this your hometown?
Thanks for watching! I lived my first 5 years there then grew up in Wisconsin but I did not make a video while I was back :(
Hello mac stay safe travel nice to watch your blog. Hopefully you come back here in Philippines.soon Godbless
Maraming salamat, hoping to come back to the Philippines soon :))
$150-$200 for a one way ticket to chicago if you book ahead of time. roundtrip is still going to be around $500-$600.
Great experince i hope one day you go try Flyerbil kurdistan
I love Kurdistan, I want to come back!
I love the video I hope one day I can ride the train it's a dream of mine. ❤
Nice bro have a good day
You too! Thanks for watching!
I show screenshots of you to my barber. 🍻
Hahahah I appreciate you
Back in the day, we took Amtrak from Grand Forks, ND to Houston. It was miserably uncomfortable but entertaining at the same time.
We flew back to ND, though…thank goodness!
That was a very cool steam engine.
Big boy❤❤❤
I enjoy it
We did this from Houston to Chicago and it was horrific, 32 hrs, train kept stopping and going to pick up and drop off passengers . The WiFi was trash! Great if you want to be off grid for a bit and the train view wasn’t all that great.
Don't they come and make up the bottom two chairs into a bed for you?
The meals on the long distance trains east of Chicago and East of San Antonio and the small portion of empire builder which is the Portland to Spokane center for the people in roommates flexible dinning is what they have and it’s prepared before it gets on the train and just reheated on the train since on the routes they do not have a chef on board. The traditional dinning is on all the other long distance trains and called traditional dinning which hsce a chef on board and everything os cooked fresh on the train.
I miss you already 😢❤
All I gotta say is AMERICA 🇺🇸
26 hours was my longest Amtrak’s ride from Milwaukee to New York City 🗽
I live in Cleburne, TX. That was unexpected lol.
Hey, please fly back to India 🇮🇳 and make another series. Been waiting ! Hoping a reply from u. Love from india. ♥️

I've gone from Chicago to San Marcos in under 20 hours. That train is slow!
Mac, visit india this winter. Places like Dehradun, Mussoorie Almora, Nainital, Ranikhet, kausani, Shimla are located in North India in small state. Visit here. Great hill stations bro
That's a great suggestion! I've heard such amazing things about the hills of Northern India.
@@worldnomac yes. Nowadays, re-watching your videos on TV, today watched pakistan series and yesterday we watched Darjeeling one bro 😀.. on TV it's much better.
I was surprised that the Eagle service did not have a Veiwliner lounge car !
Me too! I was hoping it would
