Rommel was a great commander, on the tactical level, but he got lost on the operational and strategic level. He was insubordinate - he did not listen to orders, he broke away from his own lines, which stretched the supply routes and he could not advance any further. Because of this he lost at Tobruk. These tanks will not shoot or drive if they are not supplied with fuel and ammunition. These "donkeys" in Berlin understood this, unlike him.
A legend and myths grew around Rommel, which arose after his death.

Africa is a place where operational distances are about 1000-1500 km. So German Commanders and Hitler himself ordered Rommel to not indicate any offence actions because they can supply him ammunition and fuel.Rommel breach that order. So who has a brain?
