I love your reviews normally tom, but seeing you carefully place down the minatures during the component drop plus your general enthusiasm makes this one of my faves :3
I'd been lusting for this game since I saw the adorable chibi character art and read the demo rules with hearts and potions dropping out of the monsters. It's been a while but I finally have it and though I'm still putting all the minatures together seeing this review makes me look forward to finally playing it even more :D
Did any of the play times mentioned include the time for setup and repacking?
A friend bought this mainly for the miniatures. He likes painting minis and really liked the look of the game. He was extra happy to find that the game was really good, too.
Looks Great! Looking foward to buying it.What kind of glue do you need to put it together?
How does the game compare to Dungeon Run? Would you reccomend one over the other? Thanks.
Hi Tom, I am curious on what you think of the game now and days. Pros and cons of it compared to modern board games. Thank you for what you guys do.
wow, those miniatures are huge :) now i want to get this game but i am a little worried about space since i have a small table, how big the maps go?
Just bought this and you're helping me wrap my head around it
I was very seriously thinking about getting this at my local hobby store but had some reserve. After watching this, I'm definitely dropping the $100 they're asking for it. (A bit pricey, but I wanna support them). Looks like my girl and I have hours of fun ahead of us. Thanks for the review.
The first game of this that I played took well over 5 hours, because we got into a situation where the last spawning point was stuck in a corner, but there were so many enemies spawning per turn that we had a huge amount of trouble getting to it. There was just a huge cluster that we had to slowly slog through. Fun game, but some bizarro things can happen.
1:32 i swear if that dragon broke in any way because of this i would burst out crying D:
what miniatures games did you play?
that a 1 inch base on the smaller models?
While its been a while since I've played this game with my two friends, when we did play it was over Vassal (a program that allows people to play board games over the internet, ironically). The board view is top down for everyone and gives everyone all the time they need to calculate their victory. I think a "physical" experience would be a whole different thing, with a higher emphasis and being social. But I could be wrong there.
Is this mission-based like in Descent? If so, how is the replayability because i found it to be non in Descent after you completed a mission.
+Jesper Vas Järnnatt
The thing with Descent was that it gave you some missions/scenarios to get used to how the game works, then it was up to you to make your own scenarios, much like other RPG tabletop games. Not to mention if you aren't up to that, you can find missions/scenarios made by other players on the web.
This is a great game. The rule book has its discrepancies, but it's not a deal-breaker because the game is just so much dang fun. The simplicity of the rules allows players to really delve deeply into the tactical nature of the combat. You can plan your strategy and not have 15 minutes of setup completely demolished because you rolled an "X" (you all know what I'm talking about and, yes, I still really like Descent despite the x-rage). Can't wait to see the expansions.
Ah! Citadels in the picture! My mom thought it was in a stack of things I said she could get rid of :'( Wellll I guilted her into buying me Dominion to make up for it.
Just heard about this game today and came to youtube to look immediately for good ol' Tom's review
I'm not normally a fan of anime, but the whimsical look is so different from other dungeon crawls that I can't help but like it. If only it weren't so expensive, I'd pick it up ASAP.
I just got the game in the mail myself for my birthday. I was interested in it before Penny Arcarde and Tom gave the game a thumbs up. I'm still gluing everything together, but I really get the sense that my friends will just adore this game. |D
I'm so glad you mentioned Gauntlet. I finally played this the other day and it truly feels like Gauntlet. Which is good, I loved those games. :D I agree with your review. It's simply a fun and easy game. It's great.
YAY! THANK goodness you are back to doing reviews again.
@HighKingOfDalliance is it? its teh same size as mine
I like a video gamish artwork and style in this game. Joystick for a movement points, simple button for the actions. Looks so clear and.. familiar :) And this bag of tokens looks pretty awesome, though i don't know how many different tokens are there, but the number is huge :)
Wait. How do you play?
this caught my eye at gen con as well and had a blast playing their demo I can't seem to find the game anywhere but amazon and they charge like $90 for it
Thanks Tom...my future career as a math teacher will not keep me in games when you keep doing reviews like this!!!
I was actually looking up videos for this, since I'm considering getting the game. I'm going to buy this once I get the money, looks really cool. The art style reminds me of Maple Story and the game really does seem like it has a Gauntlet feel to it.
+TimmyTheNerd if you haven't purchased yet, it is currently $35 with free shipping on SodaPopMiniatures' website :)
Why can't I watch an effing video these days without a 15 second advertisement? UA-cam sucks ass. I just want to watch Tom's review!
Watched this after buying. Now can't wait to have it. Seems pretty cool, awesome review.
Thanks for the video, was going to purchase until I found out I had to assemble everything with superglue...
It's not so bad if you do it while watching a movie or something. And all the expansions have been preconstructed. I suspect a future reprint will likely have the base game preconstructed as well.
I spent a lot of money on Gauntlet..."Valkyrie is about to die."
lol to being careful with the miniatures, I remember the frustration from Warhammer 40k, and spruce cutting and gluing was the biggest frustration ever. Especially when you had 50+ models.
I love watching your reviews. You have a loud, clear, crisp orating voice
@MartyMcFly88mph2015
Fantasy Flight Games is re-releasing many of their Silver Line games in boxes of that size. So it seems that Tom has the new copy.
looks pretty awesome...its also good that it doesn't take to long to play...i like dnd and stuff but i haven't really had the time to play lately. So a gauntlet like game that's simpler and fun sounds great
I wouldn't say having to build and paint them is a negative point - I'd say it was a positive one.
Modelling and painting are more or less my fave parts of miniature wargaming.
@LuckyBucyk22 My friend told me super glue, but I think it might be better to use the kinds of glue you'd find in a hobby shop, since his minis sorta smelled.
damn I didn't know you had to assemble all the minis... I'm terrible at doing that...
now they would def get my money if they released a pre painted version :) (and maybe even that terrain display they had at GenCon)
Second funniest component drop beaten only by 'Seven: The Card Game."
Sounds like you need to rethink your strategy, the counsul certainly stands a chance.
Look through some strategy guides for the consul (Boardgamegeek e.g.)
It realy depends on the gaming group who wins. This game is actually really well balanced.
I'm tempted to buy a used copy of this game with all the pieces already assembled by the previous owner.
I love Dice Tower reviews. If you like Chibi-esque miniatures, Check out our 3D printable miniatures project!

"oh he was only six pieces..." lol
I was looking into this specifically because I wanted something with an anime look. Most RPGs have art that is really too realistic and gritty/ugly to me... Really glad to see this game get a glowing review.
What kind of glue do you use to put the miniatures together? Will probably have an assembly party with my friends when I get this game.
I finally broke down and bought a new copy. The pieces weren't too hard to put together, just a few of the really small bits gave me a tad bit of trouble.
Ah these guys were doing that Tentacle Bento game I read about a month or so ago.
Seems like a game you have to make a solid commitment to play.
Nicely done, I bought my copy yesterday...:)
Thanks Tom. Great review!
Great looking game, but, the idea of spending hours putting together minis really takes it off my radar.
Looks like tons of fun.
Penny Arcade is offical Nerd! Nerds No, Tom and Tom is good! Waiting for the top 10 Countdown next week!
Well that's gonna help me through the long painting session haha
LMAO at you very carefully setting down the miniatures! Hilarious
i love ur channel yo, u got a sub here. I actually like the board games from this company.
AAAAAARRRRR! I NEED SUPER DUNGEON EXPLORE! BAM POW!
Seeing all these games I would love to buy and play, and the realizing that I would have no one to play them with if I did (And I want to play with more then one person damnit) makes me sad
Nice to see a non-serious fantasy dungeon bash :)
he sounds so excited
@TheNabster1 I share your pain, and I'm working on a fix to this problem :). Which will be available in approximately four months.
Woot :D the review I have wanted for a couple of weeks :D Now I know to buy this game right away :P
Really love your reviews. in a space of three months you turned me into a boardgamer and also a beggar ==
You sold me on this game just from dumping it all out. lol
You do realize that many miniature wargames you speak of started as boxed board games right? Then evolved off into what we now consider tabletop miniature wargames as business models for expanding product became profitable.
Thanks for this review
*excellent* review - thank you!
@Rothkeen That is not what the word review means..
Demo'd at PAX. Looks sweet XD
This game looks amazing.
THE EXPANSION HAS PREBUILD MONSTERS..WOOHOOO
I like the concept but the mechanics seem cumbersome enough that I might as well be playing D&D.
Got this for christmass :D
i just bought the game. Game is superb but quality is suck. They should do better on the quality of the card and miniature.
I hate the maps. Wish they gave us tiles. Other than that, a great game
@GVCoffee0 if you're bothered about having to assemble and paint the pieces yourself, you aren't the target audience. some of us appreciate being able to have a little more freedom with our games.
wizard needs food badly!
Nice Wits and Wagers Family back there LOL!
It's only 15 seconds. Not a big deal. If it bothers you so much, get ad block.
Nice review but yikes go easy on that glue haha
That poor dragon!
I love dungeon crawls which are not too complicated, but... 95€ (about 130$), really?! Well at least I'm not going to buy it form a local store... >.
One advice: If you are going to paint your minis, do not fully assemble them before that. Paint heads and torsoes as one piece and then add arms and accesories
My blood sugar is rising from the cuteness of this game.
Penny Arcade didn't bring me here!
not as bad as tom makes it out to be. only took and hour and a half to glue themall togetther.
Ever heard of Games Workshop? Dreadfleet comes to mind...
I was really looking forward to the component drop.....
It wast that bad, it took me just 2-3hours to put all of the minis together
dat intro.
SDex vs Descent... showdown!
OMG your glue and assembly skills need some help, great video tho.
For some people, this is part of the fun. But I agree one may not enjoy this - just like you, I sure don't.
Best component drop ever
Instant turn off and a no buy when in this day and age pieces need to be glued together.
looks like a lot of fun, but I really do not like kid cartoon looking games. I should be bad ass, adult looking characters. :(
15 seconds of your time to watch free content. That's harsh..
I loved the way you set the figs down. LOL I cracked up...
