What I love about the Stray Cats is that they reintroduced a 1950's sound to a then-current mainstream audience, but they did it without a condescending, parodying, approach to "old" style music, which, if we're going to be honest, a lot of bands from the 1970's, during the whole "Fifties Nostalgia Fad" did. Sadly, those other bands were also talented, but they caved in to mainstream pre-perceptions the way they presented their music, whereas, The Stray Cats, dictated and led the mainstream...with attitude.... The Stray Cats, with their original songs like this, presented rockabilly as an energetic, admittedly vintage approach, to music for the young. In other words, "Sexy and 17" (as well as "Rock This Town," "Something's Wrong With My Radio," "Fishnet Stockings," "Hot Rod Gang," and others) was a badass Rock and Roll presentation of vintage-style music to the mainstream, and not "quaint and cute nostalgic oldies."
There is no one who can play the guitar this well while singing.
Even though it's a live performance, the guitat tone is great too.
