Hiked the trail to the dam from the Road to Nowhere several times, even before it was a trail. With the Park on one side and the Lake on the other, it is a natural paradise of wilderness and animals. Seeing just the curves and struggles to make a road from Bryson up to the tunnel, one can easily see how this vast wilderness would have been destroyed to finish the road.
My Grandfather and my Dad worked on this Project. My Grandfather ran a Crane and my Dad oiled for him. Dad got the end of one finger cut off greasing the Gantry while his Dad was running it. Not much Safety practiced back then.

Also important to note, the $52 million dollar settlement has only had about 1/5 paid to this day.
We can only hope it will be FULLY paid out.
Good video and well researched. I was there just the other day and there was no mention of this original requirement in their visitors center.

Nice video. Glad you added about resentment. Seems they're good at stealing land. Still a lot of resentment in Vonore over the Tellico Dam.
I’m apart of the Stiles family from that area. They moved from there to High Point N.C. in the 1930’s .
My Grandpa- Edd B. Cochran, from Bryson City helped build this dam.
