    Hi Adrian--I am down to the short block on a 1978 450SL and need to know a few things. First is that I cannot seem to find a source for new crankshaft bearing bolts--ten of each. The manual just refers to checking the depth of the threads--does not say to replace them, but a person should, shouldn't they? Second, there are no scratches, but engine sat a long time and the cylinders need to boring to clean them up--how much is safe before the need for oversize pistons and rings (which are not available)? A fingernail test of the cylinder walls shows no wear lip at all on the cylinders. Thanks for the reply and a wonderful video.

      Hi , if the bolts for crank shaft rods are not extended you can use them again ( mine were too long ) it’s difficult to get them so i’ve made them again from scratch. Main bearing bolts usually are not needed to replace. If they are extended you can change them by buying hardened ones in the shop ( 12.9 ). they are going to work perfectly. If you dont feel lip/ step on cylinder it’s Ok to Just clean with sand paper or polish it . Even with little step engine is going to work for ages, Just change piston rings for new nominal ones. Regards

    @adrianwalio Do you think it's possible putting a supercharger on the M117 and M116 engines? Just curious and wanted to know your opinion on it!

    • @adrianwalio
      @adrianwalio  5 років тому +1

      Yes it's possible but difficult. K-jetronic needs to be removed or readjusted. Second option is changing it to a electronic injection system ( stand alone ECU ). As I saw these kind of projects there was a lot of efforts like changing/rebuilding intake manifold because of too less capasity under "piping ".

    Nice job on the rebuild! Beautiful cross hatch pattern on the cylinder walls. Did you have someone - is it zinc plate or dip your hard fuel lines and other parts at 4:28 and 4:32 to get them shiny and gold like that? Or is it brand new parts? They look great! Makes me want to do my engine! Also what did you do the get the intake manifold so beautiful and shiny silver? It's gorgeous!

    • @adrianwalio
      @adrianwalio  6 років тому +1

      Hi , Thanks for comment . I’ve zinc galvanized it. Intake manifold was blasted by micro glass granules. All aluminium parts were done this way

      adrianwalio that's cool! Did you learn the process on UA-cam? I've heard of some people doing it themselves.

    • @adrianwalio
      @adrianwalio  6 років тому

      I knew how to make it before. To galvanizing you need to have good laboratory DC power supply and buy " zinc " bath for galvanizing. You need also fine a " very clean " anode.

    Please redo the video with much longer time on the pics. I'm having to hit pause on nearly every one to look at it properly. Otherwise good.

    Hi. Can you give me an advise please? I have sl350 R107 M116.982 engine and despite of adjusting valve lash it keeps on knocking like excessive valve lash. I suspect that thrust pieces between top of valve and rocker arm might be worn. Can rocker arms be removed without removing camshafts? Liked your video, nice job. Drive safe.

    • @adrianwalio
      @adrianwalio  8 років тому

      Hi.Probably rocker arm is worn or camshaft. You can remove rocker arm by pushing down valve spring by bigger screwdriver. Be aware that it's not so easy, you need to put some force. check if piston is at "down " position. Better is to do it with some help. You can buy different thickness thrust washers if needed. Regards

    • @pasifsc
      @pasifsc 8 років тому

      Thanks for answer. I have opened valve cover and camshaft looks to be fine. So It is either rocker arm or that thrust piece.
